Paid verification isn’t verification at all, if no actual verification is taking place. Rather than call these “verified” accounts (as currently architected before Twitter pulled it back), a more apt label might be “paid member” since that’s all it is. This doesn’t convey any imprimatur of trustworthiness to what such a member posts, or even if this user is who they say they are. It only indicates that this user paid for that check mark, which is meaningless in that context. Being a paid member might enable certain extra features (e.g., bumped up in the algorithm), but it wouldn’t make me think this user is any more trustworthy. It only means they’re willing to pay for that check mark. At least that’s how I see it.
The only good part is you can click them to see which type of "verified" the account is. Unfortunately we all know most people won't click to verify the "verification".
@@jmr even Elons twitter account says blue member. Ppl who went ahead and signed up for blue because they were told they are losing the check mark had it converted on that screen you are referring to.
@@jmr I think all this could been fine with a real vitrification process, make ppl show ids or something, then you can charge them and it’s actually a verified person. Just getting the checkmark is something else
Considering you have to have an iOS account, a credit card associated with that account, which basically means you have a real physical address and you are a real person with a real credit score, what more verification do you need?
That is a suggestion that Twitter may pay for big RU-vidrs to use their service most RU-vidrs won't do it because they look at what happened with ninja and mixer everyone just thinks he's corrupt now
I paid for Twitter Blue and get a few of the features but not the ones I wanted. I bought it specifically for the Longer Tweets feature, but that's not one of the features I actually ended up with. So far as I can tell, the only features I actually got were "Undo Tweet", "Edit Tweet", and "Text formatting". I didn't get anything else, not even the blue check.
Lon, your poll was a good indication of what your followers think of Twitter. Because of it's brevity, it's not the platform for meaningful discussion.
The first 24 hours were hilarious as long as you didn't hold Eli Lilly stock but a lot of people I know on Twitter are preparing to run. The tech crowd seems to be leaning toward Mastadon as a potential replacement because it's federated and decentralized.
It's funny after all of this social media stuff we ended up back where we started with a decentralized system :). I have built out a pretty nifty RSS dashboard that I'm using quite a bit these days.
@@LonSeidman An RSS dashboard? What kind of feeds are you pulling down? I'm just using RSS for podcasts and the Rpilocator RSS feed right now. I have an automation that sends me a notification when the correct PI shows up or a new podcast.
@@redbaron474 The "Official" Tesla account was the best IMHO. The "Official" Eli Lilly account was funny but I felt a little bad for people that did not know. "Insulin will now be free" probably got some people's hopes up well it hurt stock prices.
@@marco31 Some will some won't. I'm starting to like Mastadon better. I will be using both for the moment. I see Jeff Geerling is staying with Twitter but advertising his website an alternative. Mastadon won't take Twitter down but the uncertainty is going to limit growth because right now no one wants to invest in it's future. I hear people can't even check out their data right now.
i wish there were more plan for less expensives alternatives, cause 2 or 3 $ per months seems fine, but 8 means 100 $ each year. i think it's interesting when you're focused on twitter and don't have dozen of social profiles.
I don’t like the fact you can pay for a blue tick on twitter. Im glad it tells you people pay for it and not for gaining it from years of hard work getting it. Defeats the purpose of it but that’s my opinion
i mostly just got it because of my channel but also because i wanted to test it out and it's been such a mess i never cared much for the checkmark but i still am glad i have it regardless
@@LonSeidman Problem I see with Mastadon is that depending on which server you join the content that you are allowed to see from that server could be already filtered by the onwer of that Mastadon server. I prefer to do my own filtering and I regularly prune my Twitter subscriptions. I use Tweetdeck on Windows so I see the chronological stream of tweets without promoted tweets or ads.
Some features and functions that are mentioned in the video can be obtained through the API directly or by using specific P.... programs... for free. The blue 'thing' seems to be a desperate attempt to bring in some money.
I got my Twitter badge, Lon. It helps me keep my Twitter profile more professional. I believe you made a wise choice, Lon. I didn't start following you on Twitter until you got that badge so the badge definitely helps.
No it doesn't, it makes you feel and look more important than you really are... the average person doesn't need a blue check mark. And by the pure virtue that anyone can buy one, it doesn't make you seem more legitimate or trustworthy, seeing as any radical or crazy can buy one.
I am seeing a lot more tweets from accounts which are followed by accounts I follow. Which is annoying since these are tweets with a lot of replies, which make it kind of pointless to reply to. Which makes Twitter something where I am reading instead of being involved in the conversation.
believe it or not i think twitter blue is great to fight against trolls, that creates dozen accounts, aren't ready to pay and even less exchange their anonymity by giving their credit card number. plus if it can help to be promoted as an influencer, it's all good. i don't understand all the hate againt elon musk, he's a true innovator of our era, especially with the tesla home. i think he also says regulary that ia will get more power than humans at some point, and he's againt it. i'm not very well documented about him, but he definitely has much different values than apple, google and other popular brands. i think the next step planned is is to make twitter the next youtube, by increasing the duration lenght of the videos you can upload.
Good overview, but be careful as you don't want your good name and reputation associated with this cluster____. Major brands are fleeing in droves, and the only thing ahead for them is Chapter 11.
I appreciate you stating as neutral as possible. I can't tell you how much I dislike when Tech RU-vidrs start pushing their politics and all I want is fun or informative tech videos. I hope twitter shares its monetization and your channel grows 👍🏼, excellent video as always.
What a joke. By not being "political" Lon is actually showing more of his *** than he thinks. He owns and has covered his Tesla car and his Starlink connections. Save for maybe SpaceX (which he also likes talking about!), he's put money into all of Elon's ventures and continues to pussyfoot around actually talking about the guy. So much of the tech media is talking about and condeming Musk's insanity while Lon plays the middle, thinking no one will notice. Something's up.
Pushing politics? Or politics you don't agree with, there's a difference. Life is political, people that bury their heads in the sand and pretend it's not are the ones complaining.
Paying to be "famous" and " relevant".... Nah, I'm good. I have about 500 Marines "follow" me, but I actually get paid for it.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣... You just wasted your money..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dude, I cringe every time you say "Twitter isnt that big". Are you seriously that delusional? Twitter is SO big that it has taken the place of virtually all networks that have to do with news. I know how you voted captain cardigan.
3 types of people that use Twitter. 1. The elderly. 2. The enfeebled. 3. Narcissists. I'm glad you could tell us about the new features before Twitter implodes.
