I don't know why anybody in their right mind would move into an HOA

It amazes me that an HOA can dictate what you’re allowed to own and park on the driveway.

They tried this crap in my community. The HOA said “No Trucks”. So my lawyer sent them a letter asking did it mean No Box Trucks, No Hand Trucks etc. After the letter was sent I bought a 1976 ford pinto and painted in with 12 different spray paint colors. I parked that in my driveway. A week later my lawyer called me and said they were going to allow modern trucks because they are now considered family vehicles and they were amending the docs to reflect commercial trucks only.

Residents disbanding HOA's is quickly becoming a thing. I just saw another story the other day where a group of neighbors got together and sued their HOA's to have it shutdown and they won. In 2024 I can't imagine buying a house or property that is part of an HOA, they are just so toxic.

The best way to get back at a HOA is to take it over. Get other neighbors to get involved, run for the HOA board, go to meetings, get the rules changed. Most of these are run by busy bodies on a power trip. Take it away from them. Also, get very familiar with the rules, as many board members and their friends will have minor violations that get "overlooked".

Even if i was awarded a free home in a HOA community, I'd put it up for sale. I would never live HOA, where people want to control. I support you dude, go for it.

The buckets aren't legal tender, gotta take those back. Leave the coins on the ground and let them pick them up for a few days.

This is awesome. My wife received a $10 parking ticket (parking meter timed out) in the 70's while her handicapped mother was actually sitting in the car. My wife wrote a check then for $9.99 and told the City of Elgin, Illinois with a letter, if you want the additional penny you will have to sue me. We are still expecting a letter...

Way to go Parker! I recently got a $20 parking ticket for parking my car in my driveway because the Karen's across the street from me don't like the exhaust on my mustangs. She likes to walk her dog in front of my house and let it do it's business in my yard and not pick it up. What she failed to realize is I have 8 cameras on my house and caught it on video. She got me a $20 parking ticket. I got her a $200 ticket for not picking up after her dog.

I once talked with the president of a Home Owners Association because they had short-changed their webmaster. The webmaster had then edited the HOA’s website with a repeating gif of all the HOA members driving off a cliff in a pickup truck followed by a message wishing them luck moving forward. They had to buy a new domain name and rebuild the whole website from scratch.

As a private business, I’m pretty sure they have the right to refuse tender. But being that said, it is a fine, so I’m not sure what a court would rule. HOAs should just be illegal in a free society.

These are the people that are miserable as hell because they've never amounted to anything and theyre never happy until they've made everyone around them miserable.

I lived in an HOA while renting once and they towed my car out of my driveway because "you are only allowed to park in the garage" was on one of the rules

I know how you feel. My HOA tried to make me get rid of my 3 petty chickens. They sent me threatening letters from a lawyer. I had a doctor declare them my emotional support animals and told the HOA to come on and take me to court. Its been a year and I haven't heard anything else :-)

Glad my HOA isn't a nightmare. I have my truck and trailer parked in my driveway...they couldn't care less. Any renovations or additions, instantly approved. However, I vetted them prior to moving in and noticed nobody had any complaints.

i feel your pain. i grew up poor but was able to built my dream house in hayden colorado, by myself out of milled logs (2.5 year build of nights and weekends). my hoa is particularly evil, they sued the neighbor to the hoa because he was legally living in a trailer while he built his house, they just didn't like to see it when they walked the back trail. they tied him up in court long enough that he gave in. they routinely bully those in the hoa that dont grovel to the president. i have never let them bully anyone without speaking up at every meeting for all their bs. i quickly became their bully target with monthly attacks etc. i finally decided to build a barn and at the meeting to propose my barn, they out right told me that they would never allow me to build anything. at that meeting, the out of control board got violent with me, one put his fist in my face, gritting his teeth, and told me he would "wipe that smug grin off my face" while the whole board screamed and hollered for over an hour. i sat patiently and quietly and let them throw their insults. at the end of that, i prayed God would take us from here. now today, we are selling our house for 1.5 mil and we only spent 250k to build. needless to say, you can't pay me to live in an hoa ever again.

My parents built a house in an HOA neighborhood when I was a fourth grader I recently purchased the house from them. They still reside in it but I handle the maintenance, pay the taxes, the HOA etc. etc. and although I despise HOA’s in general. Seeing videos like this definitely makes me appreciative that over the last 25 years the HOA in their neighborhood has been pretty reasonable. Yes, there’s some stupid rules about fences, pools additions, swing sets, putting sheds or little garage buildings up and things like that. You have to get approvals and permit etc. I had to recently get approval when I put new siding on even though I kept the same color because it matched the brick but I’m really grateful that when it comes to things like having parties and parking in the cul-de-sac parking in your driveway those kind of things have never been a problem. I could not imagine purchasing a house that you own and being told you can’t park your vehicle that you drive regularly and is nice. Now it would be different if it was a broken down vehicle that sat there for two years, but a nice vehicle that you regularly drive you should be able to park it anywhere. So it definitely makes me more grateful that we have not had major HOA issues with that said my husband and I have looked at other real estate through the years and chosen not to purchase because we simply don’t wanna deal with all the crazy HOA rules. I was a city girl, born and raised who moved to the middle of nowhere when I got married 20 years ago and although at first I could not imagine becoming a country girl I love my 23 acres and the fact that I can park (and my husband can park his truck) wherever we want. I can even have a lawn ornament if I would like I don’t but I’m just saying… 😂 I’m glad you stuck it to them. Best of luck.

i had a ludicrous experience when looking for my current home. I found a local realtor, we went over what i was looking for, and they put together a list of homes to look at. One thing i specified as being a 100% dealbreaker was having an HOA. The very first house the realtor showed me had an HOA. When i asked why the realtor even bothered to have me look at the house, they had "forgotten" about the HOA. Same story on the 2nd and 3rd house. I dropped that realtor and found another. The 2nd realtor informs me that the other realtor is known for getting kickbacks from the HOA's managing company for steering them potential "problem" homeowners (so they can collect more fines), and that since I'm obviously into cars they saw $$$ if they could get me to move there. fuggin crooks

Even if I found my “dream home” I would run as far away as possible because I know it’ll turn into a nightmare really quickly.

My HOA tried to tell me that my high roof work van (brand new, clean, no logos) was an “oversized vehicle” and not allowed. Little did they know, they didn’t have a definition of oversized vehicle. And the nearest jurisdiction defining it (state of Colorado) defined it as a semi truck essentially. I contested it in writing and in person and they conceded - but told me to remove my ladders (of which there was no rule about). I did, begrudgingly, but wasn’t worth taking them to court over. Meanwhile, numerous neighbors have larger full-size trucks than my van who were never hassled. Since the incident, they sent a legal addendum to all the homeowners defining vehicle sizes. If this has ever happened in your community, they have zero jurisdiction unless it was clearly defined when you signed the HOA papers when you moved in. Do not let them bully you!

I lived In a "HOA" and all of my neighbors got find because we parked on a public (city owned) road in front of are Condos and even cut down all of the trees we all went to all of the meetings to protest what is going on and to find out they elected a new board President (and a very old bat with little poodles) with we are not allowed to have any pets... cats...dogs etc. One of the residence is a attorney so we all got together and filed a HUGE lawsuit with it well pay for Attorney fees and to replant all of those trees and have her dismissed form of the board and all of those parking fines and penalties to be dismissed and guess what "WE WON ARE CASE"!😁😆🤣

My wife and I had to stay at her parents house for a while when we were buying a new house. They got fined because I had a company van in the street in the evenings. I was a handyman for a national company. There was also a cable company van and a fire truck parked at other houses. They never got a fine. I hate HOA.

Got to give us update? The law is the US Coinage Act 1965 section 31 which states that if they refuse payment the debt is voided

I did the same with my condo association when I got a fine because I was 25, single and brought girls back on weekends. Complaints on noise lol. So I paid the fine with pennies, then sold the place a few months later.

I had a HOA claim that my car parked in the public street area was a violation. Claimed it was a clean street day. I moved the car because he was getting loud. I checked my door after locking it. My car door opened and something fell off the door. I made damn sure all the doors were locked after that. It turned out the person was a convicted criminal and leaving items in my door so he could open it later at another time. Be careful of who tells you to move your stuff.

Heres had a maliciously comply with your HOA in three steps. Step one, figure out what vehicles are allowed in your front yard and which aren’t. Step two, Buy a cheap beater of the same makeup model and strip it down to a running and driving chassis, make it as much of an eyesore as possible. Step three, park it in the most visible part of your driveway and wait. Bonus if your HOA is really strict put up owl boxes across your property, since owls are a federally protected species they are not allowed to take them down. Do with this information you will.

I attended last years HOA meeting. The board submitted a proposal to do away with all HOA rules and adopt the county rules only. It was put to a vote and passed unanimously! The reason? The board was concerned that a "Karen" might someday come to power and use the rules to oppress the neighborhood. The board realized that the existing rules were not beneficial to anyone, and were not enforced anyway. I went from hating my HOA, to accepting them.

I need one of these because I’ve gotten the cops called on me for drumming everywhere I’ve lived and now I’m being singled out as a single guy who spent all his high school time growing up between this house and one down the street in what is a “family oriented community” but it’s not that I’m not 50 or older by myself, like my neighbor next-door. It’s that I’m 29 that makes it a problem.

I am on the fence. Before you attack my defense of the HOA, tell me what I'm misunderstanding here. Dr. Mitchell isn't some average dumb guy, he knew the rules when he moved in. The HOA had a vote to park trucks outside and it failed. If the HOA doesn't enforce the rules then why have any rules at all? If Dr. Mitchell is aware of other people parking "trucks" outside and not getting fined then that is something a court of law should decide why that is. I agree it is a stupid rule that can perhaps be narrowed down to include only "work trucks" or commercial vehicles, but the rule is the rule as it stands today. Penalizing the president of the HOA for enforcing the rules that the majority of the HOA voted for seems petty and the doctor to appear that he believes he is entitled or that because he can afford a $90,000 truck the rules shouldn't apply to him. Get on the HOA yourself. Get your friends and supporters on the HOA. Change the rules, but don't break them.

I never understood why people put up with a HOA? I moved into a neighborhood, the first house built. I never signed anything about any HOA and after others moved into neighborhood, tried to institute one. Sent me a bill for $100 a year. I ignored it and never paid it for 20 years. My neighbor told me the money was for insurance premium in case someone crashed at the entrance of the neighborhood. I told him that was not my property and I was not liable for an idiot who can’t drive. He never sent me another bill.

Saw a news article on your problem. I'd recommend a little research to do one of two things. 1. Determine which endangered species native to your location that you can legally build a habitat for; or, 2. Read the federal OTARD law and pick the most annoying antenna that they can't make you take down. Next, promise that the next time they mess with you, one of those two will happen and bu law they won't be able to do anything about it.

Dealing with bigger entities who think they are entitled is the worst, I’m having to take a university to court over there gate that shut on my vehicle, I’m not even a student there!
