@@DsArtwork13 Why? Only if I respect him but he doesn't respect us old fans, he completely denies where he came from, which is us the oldest hearthstone community and forsen
Literally played a game like that. It was our first game of D&D ever. Our dm had skim-read the rules, then got a bunch of other random shit off reddit. It was insane and hilarious.
In the edited video the bard agreed to heal the wizard if she gave him another chance. She agreed to it as long as he provided milk for their children. The exciting part of that ability was buttering up the bard to convince them to heal you.
I could see Wizard having Magic Missile as their every turn ability, but all of their other spells can effect multiple targets, benefits over multiple turns, and/or be creative. And be a true wizard glass cannon by having 1 less HP and need to be protected. For instance, something like Sleet Storm would fit the esthetic of what Ray of Frost tried to do that wouldn't be wasted on 1 HP targets. If the chat member wants to have a lot of fun, they can dip into one of a few different once per floor spells, but if they're overwhelmed nothing wrong with spamming Magic Missile. Although, all that said, I'd hope for each subsequent stream to feature a different team of three classes over immediately returning to these three being tweaked. Return to this party after forming a cast of all the other classes. My thoughts on the wizard are also in retrospect only. If returning to the characters and assuming they get to keep any of the reusable equipment, probably wouldn't fit now anyway.
yeah I think it's a perfect balance of 'abilities that you'd expect them to have' and 'funny traits', the wizard still had a ton of character despite their bland abilities because they spent half of their time kickflipping off of things, yet they also stayed extremely relevant because of their consistent damage.
Oh, one thing that could make an arcane spellcaster really entertaining in this kind of format is giving them Mage Hand. Maybe if there's an Artificer they could use that for even greater wacky results if tied into their artifice. Also give them Mending and have their only thing to rely on is weapons and items when their limited use abilities/spells run out (can see the Infusions feature as a per floor or per player, and telekinesis spell as per floor or per stream, for instance), so they'd have to be inventive to compete. ...Guess that's just saying have an Artificer that plays like TotK? But more MacGyver leaning? Anyway, similar points can be made for Druidcraft, Prestidigitation, and Thaumaturgy, while Thorn Whip is always fun as an attack under normal circumstances, but would need to be modified for the majority of foes having one HP (maybe only being used for pulling, or still pulling when the damaging attack misses?).
I’ll be honest, it would be fun to explore a world where it’s a dystopian. . . But not in the way you’d expect. Instead of sci-future, it’s modern corporate and overwhelming. Kinda like Idiocracy but made in DND form.
I think this would be great, yes. Especially with the revolving door that a stream's chat can be, this sort of visual indicator probably would be super helpful.
@@ImANormal_Guyideally beneath the hearts you have simple icons representing each of the abilities the players have. Once the limited use abilities are used, the icon gets greyed out. Most importantly (and I don't know how the automod/nightbot works), having commands in chat like !bardmoves would paste a simple explanation of the abilities available to the Bard so that new chatters can understand what's what (without Doug having to constantly explain).
10:05 it is used in one of the scenes where the wizard is healed along with rekindling their friendship with the bard, it went something along the lines of: Bard(paraphrased): “Can we have a second shot at this?” Wizard: “Only if you provide some milk for our children” Bard: “WE HAVE CHILDREN!?”
All instances of the cure wounds ability were included in the edited stream. The most memorable use was to try and get the wizard to remarry them, but the other uses definitely showed up in the 1 hour video on the main channel.
Hear me out: the next game could take place in a zoo. The items they take are animal companions or zoo merchandise. The areas could be split amongst the type of animal, reptile exhibit, aquarium, jungle, and the final boss, a Safari zone filled with lions, crocodiles, and other African creatures
I feel like ray of frost could be turned into like ray of elements with lightning, fire, and frost which could be used creatively and be given some better properties like if you Lightning’d the Roomba it would be stunned and things like that
I think Chaos Bolt could be an interesting spell to give the Wizard. Just make it so you roll for effects instead of damage types. It could make for a much more interesting every turn ability.
One thing that was fun is seeing a pretty decent dnd player who knew what they where doing and some sort of tatics then followed up by a crazy mad man with no sense of logic
I like how in the D&D game, the Wizard was the only one killing the majority of stuff. Meanwhile, the Barbarian somewhat contributed, and the Bard is just healing his allies and mocking people; he's not even doing anything.
About what you said the wizard having direct damage options isnt a bad thing in my opinion, while i agree in changing the ray of frost with other ability i believe having players “craft “ ítems would be complicated to balance or with too complicated or ambigius rules and having diferent people would make it worse, having a “summon “ would be cool but also would break action economy, and magic misile cluchness in various situations can change an encounter even in normal dnd (personal expirience i saved my party from a tpk with a level 1 magic misile)
I think it would have been kinda funny if one of the chatters was a massive dnd nerd and just started spouting rules and actual dnd actions that most of the chat would be entirely lost on.
Largely agreed. Especially regarding the removal of once per stream abilities. Though I do think that Ray of Frost was fine. Chat just didn't take advantage of it.
I think a good solution to the issue of chat forgetting what they can do is to send a link into chat that shows their abilities every time they switch players
Even if at the risk of cluttering the stream layout, I think a big step to improving all limited use abilities would be to just have an indicator for when they're ready. If there's a little glowy dot right next to your character, you're less likely to forget about the once per floor or such.
He put cure wounds in his edited video,i just started watching his stuff yesterday so I can tell you it was shown. Specifically,he touched the barbarian on the chest and the wizard joked he used to do that to her. Then Doug switched to touching them on the soldiers. The barbarian also had it used on one floor and the enemy tried to attack, not realising he’d been healed
doug did put uses of cure wounds in the edited video, there was the whole thing about the bard only doing it if the wizard gave him another chacne, and it appeared at leat once more
I love Doug's streams, the guy is so creative and can come up with the most fun ways to entertain chat ever!! So cool you could find ways to balance out the chaoticness of this 😂
I feel like a funny boss idea for another session would be the twitch chat: When it's the boss's turn, the rest of twitch chat votes on what they want to do, and clickmaps could be used to determine where they move
I'd argue that the Ray of Frost should stay, but be modified in this following way: If the player hits an enemy (alive or dead), that enemy becomes part of the terrain (so they are an obstacle). Imagine that a big enemy is downed and the Wizard uses the corpse to block further enemies from going through that path. Also I'd make it so that, when not aimed at an enemy, it can create a terrain hazard, making a portion of the ground icey and slippery.
..... you're right. We need another dougdoug rpg session like this, but better. Disneyland is a good setting.... maybe a circus of Hell as another one.... or a gigantic, evil, demon filled McDonalds.
The edited version of DougDoug's game was essentially my "official" introduction to D&D. That really made me understand the basic game mechanics more. It makes me want to create a simplistic campaign myself. I do love to write, but I rarely write things down, I'm that self-conscious. So that's jumbled with a bunch of other story threads bouncing around in my brain.
Swap out ray of frost for catapult. Deal damage and use the affect of a nearby item. Much more exciting and variable depending on what's around them, and it lets the wizard interact more with all of the items, which everyone seemed to clearly enjoy.
Blaine, I'm planning on making a homebrew character that's a dragonborn but it's basically a living emerald, part of a very rare species that were hunted for their cores, the glowing crystal spheres that contain most of their magical energy and are the main force keeping them alive (there's a lot more details but I don't wanna spend like 30 minutes typing for no one to read it) If you wanna hear more and have any tips for me, I'd be very happy to hear them.
i think it would also help if there was a list of some kind, reminding the current players of what moves they could potentially do, but it probably is a bit hard to fit all those actions without it covering the entire stream.
I agree it'd be helpful to keep the abilities available at all times so new players do know they still have the terrifying presence and bigger abilities if these streams become more regular, maybe a link to a pdf that lists how the simplified game works once someone jumps in. Even the basic rules are very simple and intuitive so anyone can drop in and roleplay, barbarian is good in melee and damage tanking but lacks range and leaves himself open, bard is a strong support and charisma based hexer, and mage had most of the ranged abilities along with an illusion and later developed the kickflip as a melee option. If he really wanted maybe have some abilities be 3 per floor so you can use them more often but not be as game breaking, again it takes some theory crafting to balance all this, and make the ultimate abilities that are limited by the stream have much longer effects. More interesting enemies would be nice but still be easy to understand, maybe an enemy that splashes aoe trails rather than trails behind, play with their mobility. The roomba was really good but the party was mostly dumb and still made it through a tough encounter.
I could see ray of frost having great environmental interactions. But honestly, I have to go with my favorite dm specific spell Catapult because what is better than through five pounds of nails at something.
Honestly giving the wizard stronger abilities, but only 2 health might be a good idea too. Maybe give the barbarian illiteracy, just like actually D&D would be good too. Great video and video idea btw. I kind of wish I had thought of it myself.
I feel like barbarian should keep their double attack once per floor move but also give them another once per floor sense it’s weird he didn’t have a second once per floor.
Not all that bad a complaint actually. Woulda been good to bring up how healing worked, and some ways Doug could introduce healing items without needing the bard to be the healer
"Ray of frost" could just be "cantrip" where you "create minor magical effect or make a basic magical attack" (where of course, you must explain the nature of said attack)
Honestly I feel like the characters need a complete overhaul, partly because the ending on the last one was too cinematic and partly because I think having custom, DougDoug themed characters would be hilarious! I bet Doug would be totally down to have you help out in creating interesting, balanced characters for the next challenge. I really wanna see characters from past DougDoug videos make a recurrence as D&D enemies or players.
I love this stream and while some of these would be really cool I think ray of milk is a little too iconic to get rid of. Maybe the spell could actually create the terrain and be a once per floor if it was like a solid line of it.
Next time, whenever a new chat member becomes a character, a briefing on what the characters could do would likely help newcomers quickly get started. Also adding icons for the different ablilites that lighten when not used and darken when used (or removed for the once per stream ablilties) would remind chat about what they can or cannot do. Overall i loved the stream and it will likely sit as one of my faviorite streams next to the Doug vs Chat Conquer America and Europe streams.
