You can scavenge metal underwater. If your priority was getting to metal, I wouldn’t have messed with the levees.

I wanted a challenge. It wouldnt have been fun without few limitations
@gavinm894
@gavinm894 Год назад
You could start scavenging the metal earlier by putting the flag on a platform and give them a way down to the scrap. I'm sure the beavers will work under water to collect it. Great video, loved it.

I was surprised the water wheels worked at all, given that they're in a completely open lake. I've also never tried starting with potatoes over carrots but apparently that's completely doable. I'm starting to think it's a good idea to plant a mixed forest at first, with birch, pine and maple, so you have SOME wood production while waiting for your first round of maple to mature. Maybe even just pine and maple, depending on circumstances.
@itszeeeti
@itszeeeti Год назад
Water comes from the other end and it flows just perfect there. Mixed forest wouldnt help because we would have less logs in total. It would have gone better if i stopped Lumber Mill sooner
@therealbahamut
@therealbahamut Год назад
@@itszeeeti The only reason I think of a mixed forest at the start is simply so there's a shorter period of not having any logs coming in once you've chopped down your initial forest. Nothing beats the sheer value of maple for logs but that first 30 day wait can be painful, especially on maps where you have smaller starting forests. With just a couple rows of pine you'd still get 4 logs each by planting them twice; once your maple's up and producing you could easily wipe the pine, maple it up and never look back. I do agree you did have a massive surplus of planks at the end there. Perhaps simply not building as much storage would have been a viable strategy? if your settlement is full it won't produce until you actually use them up, keeping your logs free for other uses. There's no way you'd have needed to store more than, say, a single large pile of planks at one time; I do think your mill could keep up with that demand long enough to get the job done. One possible alternative might have been to research one of the suspension bridge recipes; you'd only have to build a few of them, plus a few platform supports, to actually reach the island. Haven't done the math to see if it would take more or less total resources but it would certainly have taken fewer actual structures, so you might win out on the sheer build time. Just my two cents.

@@itszeeeti Oh and I almost forgot: with all the science you had saved up, triple floodgates might have been a good stand-in for levees on the mine island. They do take more resources overall, but you had plenty of logs and planks and, like the bridges, they would take fewer structures overall so it would probably save build time. It also would have given you a good way to help drain the place, assuming the outside water level ever got low enough.
@itszeeeti
@itszeeeti Год назад
Using floodgate is a great idea! That would save a lot of time and even some logs.

Great video :) Your planks aren't wasted (if you continue the map) as you need them for the Treated Planks to build the mine :D you saved yourself days by having them there :) I look forward to seeing more videos in this series, or like this one :)

Lumberjack and scavenger can collect resources underwater as long as the flag is above water
@itszeeeti
@itszeeeti Год назад
Yes but then we dont have a challenge. Thats why i did it that way
@EclipseClemens
@EclipseClemens Год назад
You could have built platforms for the corners instead of levies, since diagonal levies are watertight. I'm sure you could do this if you had slightly more forest and fewer planks!

Water dumping would have helped than pumping I think
@itszeeeti
@itszeeeti Год назад
Water dumping only dumps water, it doesnt pump from the area
@prowlerpunk
@prowlerpunk Год назад
@@itszeeeti doesn't it Dump water outside of that area? Reason I suggested that is because I have seen beavers working faster in that to drain out water than the pump method
@itszeeeti
@itszeeeti Год назад
it does dump water outside but you need to pump water to a tank first. I could use Mechanical Water Pump but it needs a lot of power
@prowlerpunk

@@itszeeeti indeed... Well I am going to create a scenario like yours and going to test which is faster method 😅
