As someone who's been primarily into indie games for 25 years now, it's been a crazy ride for the past decade. Everything from Blasphemous, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Hades, and Dead Cells to stuff like Outer Wilds, FTL or Rimworld. Indie Games have been outdoing AAA games for a long time now, imo. There's like 5 really good AAA games in the time we see like 20 amazing indie games. I genuinely love that indie games have finally reached the status they deserve. Hell, these days there are unlicensed, fan-made games of copyrighted franchises that are better than the official games of said franchises. Long gone are the days of being drip-fed mediocre indie games that could never hope to challenge the big studios. Now it's the big studios that really need to try and sell themselves to me, because even IF a AAA game is good enough to buy it, why would I pay $60 for a good game when I can buy 3 amazing indies? Hell, there are fucking INCREDIBLE indie games out there that cost like 15 bucks and offer far more than almost any current AAA. Hollow Knight still stands as the greatest value for the price game I've ever seen. The major difference tends to be that indie games are made out of passion, while big AAA games are made to sell.
