I played the WORST bridge building games on Steam...

Unironically, the cross truss is a unique and interesting mechanic not seen in Polybridge. A support cars can't drive through...

The water is on purpose, so you can play the BP Oil Spill Simulator simultaniously.

Matt failing because of his reliance on the stupid wall brace bug in Poly Bridge is delightful. Also: under the deck truss, mate. Wow.

I am not an engineer but couldn't you build an arch under the bridge in the "impossible" level.

Those graphics remind me of Bridge Architect. Maybe it would be a good video idea to play the bridge building classics? I think Bridge Architect was what started this genre.

I think that 2nd game has a lot of potential if they add realistic physics

When you finished the second bridge, you unlocked the Pillar. Maybe that's what you had to use for the 4th bridge and it was just hiding behind the left/right buttons

So Bridge! came out on steam in 2015, but it originally came out in 2011. Back when this came out it was genuinely the top of the line bridge builder game. I'm not especially surprised that it hasn't held up well, I'm pretty sure I was playing it on a Vista at the time, so we've had quite a bit of tech upgrades since then.

I think a cool idea for the channel would be to show off some of the public structures that you helped design and talk us through your process and why it was built the way it is. Love the videos.

BTW RCE, I started watching your videos before I started working on bridges myself. I do train bridge repair. We just pulled out (giggity) of northern alberta with a complete redecking of a steel through truss bridge. Beautiful area right in the heart of the northern rocky mountains.

You should play the OG bridge building game, Bridge Builder. It was freeware even in early 2000s and it was done by the same guys that later went on to create Pontifex bridge construction series.

I don't think the first game had a physics engine. I think it actually only allowed predefined shapes. Meaning that if the dev made a bridge they thought should be an under truss, you would fail no matter what with an over truss.

I enjoy videos like this, because sometimes (like here) they uncover underrated gems. I would definitely watch more of either of these games, but especially the sequel... seems like they cleaned up a few things the first game got wrong.

The reason you keep building the same bridge is clearly because Architects didn’t like the last one and complained to the council :-(

The first one feels like it's got the low score because they've made the margins so slim for success that there is only ONE singular solution with only just enough pieces to do it. Unlike others that let you experiment and go over budget/give you enough budget and pieces for wiggle room to have solutions with room to save on the budget and be more efficient

The game seems pretty playable, they probably overpromaced on a kickstarter or something. Unmet expectations is the best way to get a bad score on steam, no matter what you actually made

I played Bridge en bridge 2 many , many years ago. They were pretty much the first games like this.

When you go in expecting one of the worst games around, it'll be a pleasant surprise. But if you went in looking for a good game, it'd be a disappointment. I was playing bridge building games of this quality in 2000, and they were freeware.

What i've learned from this type of videos is that you want the highest or lowest rating as a game dev. The mid games are the ones that never gets played.

I often think that these types of game were made by students in college for their bachelor thesis, because now way real studio would publish something like that

All the bridge constructor games give the wrong impression, that vehicles add significant load to a large/steel bridge. This is barely even true for wooden hanging bridges. The mass of vehicles and people is insignificant compared to the mass of the bridge. Of course, poorly maintained bridges happened to collapse during large circus parades, where a bridge was fully loaded with people and heavy traffic, ideally hanging bridges being overloaded only on one road side, tilting the bridge enough, so that half of all cables carry nothing. In the end, only bridge builder sims that have an earthquake button are somewhat realistic, for simulating fatigue.

Thank you for your sacrifice. Now we get to see these without tracing to play them ourselves.

that first game was the first bridge game ive ever played like 10 years ago or so. but my pirated copy never give me glitches, bugs or crashes ever. i didnt know it was on steam and bought for old times' sake and ended up refunding.. might be steam version or modern hardware compat issues ruining it but that game was not this bad..

The first game was pretty good imo for the time it was released, i think it was around 2010? Also on the 4th level of it you should have used the pillar, hidden behind the left/right buttons in the building menu

Now that RCE did Bridges 2, he should go back and attempt to play Bridges, and see if anything from the second game will help him on the first.

If Trucking Tuesdays taught me anything, it's that all simulation games are made by German devs and all have some game-breakingly awful bugs and glitches hidden somewhere inside.
