A cheap, large, German luxo barge. Gotta love it. You got a great model year, 2001, the last year of the E38 bodystyle.

Simply put the best BMW ever made. I own 2 of these that I will never EVER sale. They keep looking better and better as the years go by.

I have the same exact car, Cosmas black, and model year 2001. I added drilled and slotted rotors, Akibono pads, the European factory Remus final dual exhaust, removed plastic radiator and overflow tank with custom made aluminum Zionsville radiator, Evans waterless coolant, all new struts, bushings, control arms, engine parts complete replacement, timing chain, etc...Michelin 4S 112,000-miles. This and my Cayman GTS, color white, are a perfect pair. Timeless...

Love it! looks really really clean! I have an 01 sport as well with 90,000km one owner. My favorite BMW I have owned. Yours is one of the few with functional front cup holders. When I purchased mine, the cup holders were the only thing not working. Got a set on ebay from Virginia. Keep posting video's! Cheers

Very nice. I have a 99 740i M Sport in Titanium Silver Metallic with black interior. I absolutely love the car! Meticulously maintained like your's, I actually have a whole folder of service records and the original window sticker for it. I just love driving it. My dad owned a 97 740i for many years and I basically learned to drive on it. It's amazing what a difference the sport package makes though as my car feels a lot more athletic than his did, even though his still drove really nice.

Very Nice , E-38 are rising each year,I own a 2000 -750 IL, working on it , not a Daily yet, but it’s came a long way in 1 yr of ownership, it had been sitting for 6yrs under a carport in the back of a used car lot.,so Iv done tires, Batteries,fuel pump, Rad, Full Detail Silver/ Black Leather, Crome package, working out a few things ,buts it’s been fun, and it Looks Amazing! TX.

I’m a big Lexus LS fan my daily is an LS400 vip ,, would you recommend this for the long run ?

Hard to find them in this good of condition here in Canada. I would love to own one. If I were to absolutely have it my way I would get a 2001 mode with M Sport package. They can be quirky but all known problems are well documented so repairs are easy enough.

I also have a 2001 E38 M-Sport that my father purchased in Approx 04-05. After buying the car a few months after he had a massive stroke and was not longer able to drive so he handed it down to me. I have kept the car in pristine condition since the first day he gave it to me and with my father's passing on May 3rd of this year I will continue to do so in his memory.

Hey, nice car you got there. I will give you some advice. You have to flush the transmission fluid ASAP with OEM fluid and filterm (only hand pump fluid. do not use the pressure machine) BMW says it is lifetime fluid. Let me tell you something. BMW's lifetime mark is 100,000 miles. Nothing is lifetime. I have too many of these cars and I have gone through a lot. They are awesome cars if you take care of them on time. My transmission lasted 215,000 miles since I didn't take care of it. However, the performance died down over time, since i didn't change the fluid and the filter till it got 200,000 miles. I recommend flushing it every 50000 miles. Also, You have to do the timing chain guides and tensioners at around 160,000 miles on M62tu (vanos) and around 190,000 miles on M62 pre vanos engines to be on the safe side. Then, you will need oem or aftermarket catalytic converters around 150,000 miles. Also, when you do any cooling system repair at this milage, try to get a new thermostat and waterpump on it. Then, the car will treat you like brand new everytime you drive it. Good Luck !!!

Well there was 1 face lift, and there was 3 engines, and the v12 was only available in the 750IL, but you can still get a v8 in the 740IL long wheelbase

I just bought a 96 740il for 500 bucks, needs alot of work, but I'm slowly starting to get her back into shape . I'm starting this project hoping I can get her road worthy without investing too much dough, so I'm trying to do as much of the work myself. To start I just got the ingnition switch back together, next I'll make an extra key, then I'll have the catalytic converter replaced and go from there.

Beautiful car and it looks well maintained. One remark from my side: please Remote the Black Grill and replace it with a chrome One as this will also fit to the chrome Package!

I bought mine three days ago. 100k miles on it with a folder full of maintenance papers. Guy wanted 5k I offered him 38 hundred and but the rear passenger side window regulator broke right when I rolled the window up. So he cut 300 off my offering price. 35 hundred is what I have him and drove that baby home

But does the glovebox stays fixed if you push it towards you?

Wanna snag one of these and make it an M7 with an S62 swap.

I owned a cherry ‘01 short sport E38. This is not a true sport model as far as I can tell. For one, it’s missing the 3 spike sport wheel. Regardless, it’s still a beautiful car!

Someone put 750il bits in the car. The chrome around the center armrest button doesn't come on v8 US cars. Also, I'd gather heated wheel? Rare in the msport, as they mostly got the 3 spoke m tech wheel. Kudos on the phone, mine has it as well.

Much like for the sporty shorty but if you get a 7er, go for 740iL. Otherwise go for 540I Sport instead of short 7er.

Very very nice! I'll get an E38 someday, it's my dream...but my 'yet-to-buy' example is a 750i (I'm in Brazil)...or even an iL, if a good deal shows up. But I lean more towards the SWB model because, well...for my intentions of use, being myself driving and all, having a LWB would kinda be a waste of space, since the rear would be empty 99% of the time. The combination of SWB and V12 is the pinnacle for me. One goal would be making a replica of Frank Martin's car, including a 6-speed manual conversion. #E38Life

The car in James bond was a fake 750iL. Too lazy to google it but it wasn’t the 750 V12 but 740 or 735 with the 750 and V12 badges slapped on to it.

my friend the V12 comes in the 750i and 750il not the 740il, and the 740 comes in multiple v8 varieties being the M60B40,M62B44,M62B44TU
