Oh my!!! I did NOT expect this.... I put the brand the new Taylormade Qi10 Max 2024 driver with a $850 autoflex shaft against a stock shaft.. and well, it is safe to say I DID not expect to see the results I did. In this video we settle the argument of is an UPGRADED expensive rare $850 shaft any better than a STOCK shaft that you just take off the shelf? I put this to the test! Not only testing these shafts in a normal 2024 driver head but I place this $850 shaft in a Taylormade Qi10 MAX driver one of the most forgiving drivers of 2024! We often think that just spending more money is the way to get more consistent and hit the golf ball longer and straighter but compared to a stock driver shaft in a taylormade Qi10 max does this rare expensive shaft go and long and is it any more consistent?
We put to the test a Kali blue golf shaft from Mitsubishi Kali Blue Shaft up against a AUTO FLEX golf shaft a very rare version of this! what would you do would you go for the expensive shaft? Lets hit 5 golf balls with each and see on a fair test using the exact same Taylormade Qi10 max driver head which golf ball goes the longest and the most consistent. I Put a $850 AUTOFLEX Shaft In The Qi10 MAX DRIVER VS STOCK SHAFT...HOLY MOLY. I TESTED this $850 shaft VS STOCK & these are the RESULTS This $850 DRIVER SHAFT is NOT what you think...VS STOCK SHAFT

I think it was. I play a lot of tight courses, and penalties can really kill a round. For me, it wasn't so much about distance but knowing that I have a good level of forgiveness. For that, I feel it was worth the money. I am hoping it will be the final thing to let me see the 70's.

Without reducing the head weight there won’t be much difference, so I’m not sure ‘this’ experiment will prove much. But if you switch out the head weight to a lighter one, to get the head weight to about 183-184g you will see a difference. It’s just a different way of setting up a driver.

Nope, for the price of the shaft you could get an analysis of your swing and a few lessons that would gain you those 15yds you are looking for.

That 301 yarder is all you need to know. Set it at the recommended swing weight and drop the loft to 8.5 and see what you get. Most of these RU-vidrs are making the same mistake that Rick Shiels made when he reviewed it. NOT FOLLOWING THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATIONS.

Spot on! Iv gamed autoflex since it came out and with each new head I put it in there is a lot of setup to do with swing weight. Think it would be difficult to get the Qi10max down to D0. I really didn’t like adding weight to the grip end.

@@DuxburyParkGolfClub-rr3bcyeah, need a swing weight around D0/D1 with that shaft. Not sure of the head weight in the Qi10. But I bet it’s close to 197grams and puts theSW too high per manufacturers recommendations

My understanding with the auto flex is it really does require being fit by a pro familiar with the shaft and requires a build slightly over what ever your standard is to maximize. I have seen guys in the forums get pretty significant gains, but it required a TON of tinkering with length and club head weight to get there, and I don't know if that's worth it after paying 600

Suggestion Alex, stock driver v upgraded shaft with older head at same value. As a lefty, and live in a seaside town in Oz, I buy online and try. It is trial and error, but fun. I have a few "stock" shafts, currently game hzrdus yellow smoke. I also have the Ventus blue " not velocore". Im average 95mph swing speed so distance gains come from shot shape. Keep up the good work, and enthusiasm....

Some people love the Autoflex shaft(s) and are positive it gives them easy distance, and some believe there are good alternatives that are either no upcharge shafts or cheaper less of an up charge option. If you are thinking about testing the autoflex in a lower spinning head you should look to test one or more of these other shafts that many consider good alternatives: Deramax Project X Evenflow (or Hzrdus Red) Aldila Ascent (40 or 50) Project X Cypher Black 2.0 (40 or 50) Mitsubishi Vanquish 4 Fujikura Vista Pro 55 Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 40 Elido White 40 Fujikura Speeder NX 50 Fujikura Ventus Red (5 or 6) KBS Max HL (45 or 55)

I just bought that shaft this year, and I played about 20 rounds with it. What I noticed is on perfect impact it is about 10-15 yards longer, so that might not be great, but where it really seems to shine is on off-center strikes. It seems to keep ball speed and line fairly well even from toe or heel.

I've gamed the AutoFlex for a few years now, ,oe it. Recently put some FreeFlex shafts in the driver and 3w, and they are also dynamite! Being an older gentleman now, I need the extra speed I get from this style of shaft. For example, I am 3-5 mph quicker with the FreeFlex vs any stock offering, or my Ventus TR Blue etc.. Every little bit helps when trying to cling to that precious youth 😆

I got my AutoFlex a couple years ago now. I had it fitted by a world class fitter - the loft and choice of head were tuned to the shaft. With that combo I was carrying the ball to where it had previously rolled out to. An average of 20 yards more. Oh, and a lot more in the fairway too. Win-win.

I've been testing an autoflex 505XX in a TSR2 8 head and to get the benefit you really should play it over length. Mine is at 46". Playing at 46" with a lighter weight in the head I was getting my ss up decimal points above 115, when I was about 105-108 since golf season ended in the US. Ball speed went up above 165 as well when I was usually about 157-159. I didn't pay retail for the shaft, so I don't know if it's worth the retail price tag, but it can def up the swing and ball speed. I can't wait to get into midsummer form and see what numbers I can get.

Interested how it would have reacted if you lofted that head down abit… I’m do think that trying to compare to completely different profile shafts at the same setting isn’t going to guarantee top performance from either. I have been fit before and had different loft and weigh positions recommended depending on the shaft I tried.

Drop the loft, you will get more ball speed before going LS, also reduce the flex to the 505, if your a smooth swinger this shaft can cope. It’s not for the aggressive transitions- it’s a really good training aid. I had this and now I have gone to a ladies flex Grafalloy pro launch blue at 40grams (£50 shaft and it does roughly the same thing but needs around a degree less loft) . Try it, you may get a surprise 🤭@@HowGoodGolf

The Pro at my local course several years ago fitted himself with the Autoflex shaft, he first tried it in his gamer driver head 10.5 neutral setting , and like you to much spin and just a steady 3-5 yard gain. He then tried the low spin head of the same model but a 9 degree head set standard/neutral and that was the winner. There was still moderate trajectory. low spin and a steady 15 plus yard gain and still very good dispersion. The guy is a real player and a damn fine teaching pro, he says this shaft stays in the bag. So yes, try the low spin model. Great video, thank you.

I’ve played an Autoflex SF 405 in a Titleist TSR1 head for a couple years. It is 46 inches, D 2 SW (with a lighter weight in the head). I can honestly say it is the longest, straightest driver I have ever played (and I’m 76 years old and have played golf for over 66 years)! I am still a scratch player with 95 mph club speed. I don’t know how this thing works but I am about 15 yds longer carry than any other shaft (and I’ve tried a lot of them). Like several of the commenters have stated, it is imperative that you play this shaft at 46 inches and D0-D2 SW to get maximum performance.

Good test, however, The Autoflex seemed to hit the ball higher leading me to think you could have decreased loft of the driver to equalize flights between the Kali and the Autoflex. In addition I saw a test where a RU-vidr called something like "the Mobile Club Fitter" compared an Autoflex with a cheap shaft that had a similar weight and a similar bend profile; the cheap shaft performed as well as the Autoflex. From what I have seen I think the right shaft can make a significant difference and The Autoflex might be right but a less expensive alternative might be close to right.

Similar comment as a guy below, the Qi has a swing weight of D4 with stock shaft, with the lighter AF that could be way up D6/7. For the AF to flex correctly the SW needs to be D1.5 (less on the slower swing shafts) to achieve that swing weight you'd have to reduce the head weight by a lot, it's that, that leads to faster swing speeds. Of course lossing rear weight on the 10K drivers would loss the 10K.(not that I believe its adjustable but if it where it'll drop out of 10K)

@andrewloveland5507
@andrewloveland5507 7 месяцев назад
It’s not entirely accurate showing a PGA pro trying to demonstrate the difference. This should be put in the hands of a club player to see. Besides which, the AF shaft will suit a type of player but NOT everyone. That is the whole point d a fitting - you get a shaft that suits your swing. I have just paid £375 for a new ACCRA shaft which suits MY swing. I used it for the first time last weekend and hit 11 out of 13 fairways. I play off 5 and have never done that before. It helps remove the bad shots. It wont stop you topping or skying it and neither will it add 30 yds. What it does is reduce lateral dispersion which is what most club players need. Stop being obsessed with distance and focus on hitting the short grass. Alex - can you please film a fitting to show how the fitting process works and the obvious benefits? I am happy to be a guinea pig if you need to show how cheap stock shafts can affect your game.

Also note that you need 50 swings to get the 'feel' of how the shaft loads. May want to ask TM what you can expect if you change the rear weight to lower spin, or add some lead tape just behind the face?

If you watch the balls and tees to the right you can see how many takes he’s cutting out. He says several times “I can’t miss with this club,” which makes you wonder why he cut so many takes.

I've tried this shaft in a fitting and on the course. I am very consistent with my driver and lost it with this shaft. Luckily I was able to replace it There is a fitter on RU-vid that duplicates the flex profile for under $100

It's funny 'cause Kai'li shafts used to be a premium shaft (white Kai'li still is). You're just paying for the research and testing used to make the Auto-flex.

It’s the real deal recently tried the XXS (which performs like an X-Stiff) version and was consistently 320+ at the sim with my same head and the dispersion was much tighter than my Tensei XS that I hit 305-310 tops

Have had the blue in my Qi10 for about 2 weeks now. Out of the gate I noticed how consistent the kick was between the on course and the 100% swings on the range. I have the 70x model. I don’t have to over-swing/change my setup to get the shaft to perform. Carry and total are consistent even at 118-122 club head speeds. Enough spin and launch to sit and stop in the 300-320 range i expect out of driver. Kaili Blue is a breath of fresh air. I have tried too many hzrdus/tour AD/ventus/tensei shafts to count. This thing is smooth, consistent and easy to hit. It is also a “stock” option on TM’s website and maybe 250 to get from non OEM’s (I can’t speak on this price, didn’t do my research). Give it a try!

I'm gonna Bragg a bit here. just played our comp on Sunday. about 20 of us play just 2 times a year, been doing it for 21 yrs now. anyway, been winning the long drive 4 times in a row now. yesterday, hole 13 cape shank, 310m I drove it onto the green, pin high, while the first group was still putting. I'm 64, not a fast swing. but I use an old XXIO ,0011 stiff, 45g shaft. I've been looking at upgrading my driver, but i'm just wondering how much that shaft and in fact that driver would improve my distance? would it be worth the money?.
@Seektruth-59
@Seektruth-59 7 месяцев назад
It’s actually a scam. The yardage gains are from the lessons you get in the fitting, not from the shaft. You would get 20 yards longer by spending the $200 of the $800+ on lessons instead.
@Mjoby31

your grtting 18 feet longer per drive which equates to 36 dollars/foot. I'd stay with the stock shaft unless the $650 doesn't mean anything to you

Love my AF! I’ve hit my longest most consistent drives with it. Arccos had me at +3.2 strokes gained off the tee for two months. Dropped 4 shots off my index. It’s paired with a stealth plus 8* set down to 7.25 @ 46”. Swing weight is D4.2 which is obviously higher than recommended but it works. 12-14launch, 2200 spin and AOA is 4-5.5 up. It just goes where you point it.

Tour players dont bother with this, the couple that tried it out when it came out got rid pretty quick, thats enough for me to not even consider it, especially when Velocore and velocore tr are only £300 :D

I wouldn’t pay 1/10 of that price to hit it as straight(maybe a little less as shown in the video) to gain a couple yards. $50 to hit significantly more fairways and hit it at least as far; sure. This video shows how important it is to get fitted

Shafts I'd fit you with for this Qi10: 1. Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 70S or 60X; 2. Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 60 S+ Flex; 3. UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black 60g try the Regular flex then the Stiff.

Here is an interesting issue. A senior or lady flex shaft or a regular shaft compared to a stiff or extra stiff shaft is going to affect the position of the head at impact. Across the entire spectrum. There is forward and backward flexion but some degree of flexion in all directions. Very hard then to get a more flexible shaft to impact position. Likely all should use less flexible shafts. Do the physics. Think about it. Yes there is some spring effect but ball contact improvement likely should be the key to improve and play your best. Can’t do it if the shaft is going to be flexing in each different direction.

I used to soften my driver shafts and I ended up in nothing. Only up in the air with tons of spin. Now I have a stiff shaft with 39 gr of weight (project x) for about 150 pounds and I gain 20 yards and consistency

With AF you need to get fit…found usually have to go down in loft and slightly lighter headweight and/or longer shaft to get to around D0 SW…and a lower spin version head would help higher swing speed players using AF
@nielsjacobsen5125
@nielsjacobsen5125 7 месяцев назад
If the shafts are same length you do not gain extra clubhead speed. This shaft is supposed to be used in a longer than standard setup. Youre having it in D0 swing weight? . A lady flex shaft would most likely have given the same results.

They need to be swing weighted quite differently to standard. Usually they spin up quite a lot more than standard too.

My friend got 1, his drive is further then stock shaft I would say 15 meters, these shafts are good for slow swing less then 85 mph off the tee. Can't go hard swing on it, it is not design for hard hitter.
