I put a Henson Mild cap on a Karve Overlander plate and actually shaved with it

This was my first time using "Amalfi Coast" by Salt Lake Soap Co. So of course I turned what could have been a normal shave into an experiment. The "Karson Milderlander" was an interesting safety razor while it lasted!
Shaveware...
pre-shave: soap bloom water
shaving soap: "Amalfi Coast" by Salt Lake Soaps (Australia)
brush: unlabeled badger brush (purchased from Yaqi)
pass 1 safety razor: Henson Mild cap, Karve Overlander plate, Yaqi handle
passes 2 & 3 safety razor: Karve Overlander (brass)
double edge blade: Lord Platinum Class (1st use)
post-shave: Omega alum stick, Stirling Witch Hazel and Aloe
Notes
1 day of beard growth

Sig! Yep, that combo was possibly the mildest razor I've ever tried. Just looking at it, I wasn't even sure if it was going to cut anything! I may try a full shave with it in the future, just to see what it can actually accomplish. Thanks for watching!

That's just craziness but it doesn't look half bad! It makes me want to use my Overlander for my shave tonight. I'll leave the Henson cap on my Henson though. 🙂

Even before it touched my face, I knew it was going to be super mild... even with just a brief glance, the negative blade exposure was clearly evident. Enjoy the Overlander shave (or whatever shave you have). I'm really starting to love the Overlander, by the way!

Fun! I like the new name. I put a Muhle R89 head (that I love) on a heavier steel handle from Razorock. I call it the Muhle R22. 😆

Thanks! I've heard of the R89, but have never seen one in person. What's the significance of calling it the R22 after putting the new handle on it?

@@LateGroomer Muhle in Germany and Edwin Jagger in England jointly developed the head of the R89 and DE89, respectively, to keep costs low. And did so in 1989; 33 years ago and still a great seller. So the year now of course is 2022 and I updated the 89 to be 22.

LOL! Awesome. I didn't realize the significance of the 89 in the model number. I knew the Muhle and EJ were related somehow, though.

LOL. That's the ADHD... underpowered executive function and/or poor impulse control. Luckily, every experiment has worked out so far. You won't find me trying a shavette or straight razor anytime soon though. And occasionally, this thought pops up: "Try the R41 or the Stirling Hyper Agressive". I'm able to shut that one down pretty easily.

Hahaha... a crazy miss-mash razor ... not something I would have thought of doing, I only swap handles around sometimes. The Overlander I consider a mild efficient razor, that's probably why so many shavers (including me) seem to enjoy it a lot. Glad you enjoyed the SaltLake Amalfi, a quality Tallow soap, unfortunately another company I mentioned, Blue Devil, has been forced to close down due to the owner's ill-health and financial difficulties. Squadron another Tallow based Aussie soap is still operating and the quality is very similar to SaltLake base.👍🤠🤟

Great shave. I'm enjoying your adventurous shaves. That Henson razor is certainly popular but I think it may be a bit mild for me.

Thank you David! I compare the Henson Mild to the Super Adjustable between settings 1 and 2 for mildness and around 2 or 3 for efficiency. Did you say that 7 was your favourite setting on the Super?

Oh yeah… Henson Mild and Medium are probably both too mild for you. There is an Aggressive version, but I’ve never looked into it, and they’re apparently hard to come by. My guess is that you’d find it pretty mild too.

Eeeeew, the Yaqi handle on a Karve???? You’re killing me lololol, they ripped off one of Chris’s unreleased razors, that’s why I don’t own any of them. Interesting concept though with the mix match of heads. Nice shave Billy.

Haha, I wondered if that would get to you. I wasn't aware of that history; thanks for letting me know. As for mixing/matching... I guess I can't resist trying weird stuff. (I've tried fitting other parts together too.) King C Gillette plate with Yaqi Mellon cap worked really well as a Medium razor, for example. Later man!
