Five years ago, I started Intermittent Fasting to lose weight, reduce my body fat percentage, and stop snacking. And it worked great. For the first time, I wasn’t constantly thinking about my next meal.
But then, it all changed. This is the shocking truth of what happened next.

I don't think you should feel guilty at all about changing your lifestyle and intermittent fasting. It worked when you needed it and now your changing things up to meet the new goals you have in your life!! 🤗🤗

Your site and advice has helped me in the last year. I'm nearing my weight loss goal after 4 years ... 190 lbs today, size 16. Aiming for 200 lbs and size 14 (I have lots of loose skin..my nutrition doc estimates about 10lbs worth). Started intermitenting fasting in the last year to make it through a plateau or two. On the new meds now and see my goal is in sight. I mainly learned to try not to eat after 9pm, then not eat until noon or after my twice a week lap swim (40 minutes using a snorkle). Treadmill, gym workouts, etc. 5-6 days a week. I think back to the 1960s when we didn't snack after dinner so we went about 12 hours until breakfast..no epidemic of overweight society back then. My plant-focused diet with modest meat is the norm for me now (of course limited processed foods). All my best to you!

We have known since the 1960's, want to build muscle, especially 35+ age, then bulking and cutting with high animal protein has always worked. Don't fear adding 10 to 20 lbs. Added body weight always helps strength. Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable as well as not worrying about the taste of food. Bodybuilders and powerlifters have known this for years.

I’m 5’10” 150lbs. I try to eat at least 2,000 calories a day. I’ll be honest I don’t count my calories precisely. Breakfast is usually an apple and oatmeal, I eat sprouted oats and use bone broth protein powder and lots of butter when I make it. Lunch wildly varies, sometimes I eat out, sometimes it’s yogurt, cheese and fruit. I’ll typically eat dinner which is either something I prepared from home and took with me or a burger if I didn’t eat out for lunch. When I get home late at night I’ll cook up some rice with a bunch of butter. So I eat 3 full meals spread out over 12-14 hours with a heavy snack in there as my lunch. I’ll be honest, I’m not in the best shape physically but I’m pretty healthy. I want to work out more so hopefully I get in better shape. Point is, I have a high metabolism and I don’t pay much attention to when I eat. I just know I need calories. Eating that other meal late at night 10pm-12am is just to put more calories in me and hopefully gain weight. But I have to eat even more I suppose to gain weight. I eat decently clean and it’s so hard to eat enough to gain weight. I probably need 4,000 calories minimum to gain weight and build muscle. I probably eat 3,000 on a good day.

Lacey, I too appreciate your transparency! I don't think you should feel any pressure to stick to something that is no longer working for you. Our bodies are not stagnate. So, not sure why we think what we eat and when we eat it should be. As I have aged, and certainly as I have gone through menopause, I have had to (and continue to) tweak my eating and workouts schedules over and over. Our bodies needs are not a one size fits all for all of our lives. Would be so much easier if they were though!

I feel your frustration. Weight lifters , in general, eat low fat or moderate fat, high protein, moderate carbs and various times thru the day. For example the influencer, Joan MacDonald and influncer Melissa Neal. They both had excellent results. I do believe that intermittant fasting does wonders for losing weight, maybe it's time for a change. Please keep us informed of your results, I hope you obtain what you are looking for. I find it interesting that you mentioned that you don't feel "full" after a meal. This is interesting. I personally really like the "full" feeling I get after eating a large meal. I think IF will work for me because of that. I hate not feeling satisfied after having "small" meals.

I was intermittent fasting eating lunch and dinner, lifting weights in the morning. similar to you i couldnt bulk up. so i changed to eating bfast and lunch, kind of worked. then changed to eating a banana and a toast before lifting, then bfast + lunch. still trying to figure out the balance, i do feel bigger, but im adding muscle and some belly fat too 😞 not going to be too hard on myself, just need to keep on tinkering until i find the right balance.

Oh...no more IF! This is big for you. I ended a few years ago too. My question is, how often are you working out and are you doing creatine also on non workout days? I had shoulder surgery and lost sooo much muscle so once I get the ok to start slowly working out again I was thinking about doing creatine too. Would love to know your routine with workouts and creatine. The needing to drink 80-100 oz of water a day with creatine freaks me out. I drink a lot of water but what happens if a couple of days I don't?? I also have issues with bloating too. I wonder if it's all the snacking I do in the evening.

What if you have your breakfast early and still workout with your husband in the morning? What if you make your dinner earlier, like by 6pm? That way, you're still fasting like 12 hours from after dinner till morning? I give you a lot of credit for overcoming the fear of giving up IF. I think sometimes too for women and our changing bodies IF isn't great for our hormones.
@laceybaier_
@laceybaier_ 5 месяцев назад
I considered those options, but ultimately, this is what worked best. I'd have to wake up at 5 to have breakfast, based on our schedule, and it wasn't worth it to either my husband or myself. I appreciate you trying to help :)

My friend, please look into Carnivore. I think 🤔 that it is EXACTLY what you need! (It will give you all of the protein that you need to build muscle, and it will eliminate all of the bloating/digestive issues.). Either way, obtaining information won't hurt! Wishing you all the best! 😘 ( I don't remember whether you're vegetarian or not, but if you are, then increase your egg🥚intake, and remove grains from your diet -- at least try it.)

🚨Perimenopause and menopause should be looked at. Most trainers are not educated about that. intermittent fasting isn’t the issue. Many build muscle on ADF longer fasts. Look at your hormones.

Intermittent fasting is the holy Grail. I will never stop doing it. I exercise regularly stay fit feel great. Why would I want anything else?
@missyleonis
@missyleonis 5 месяцев назад
Seriously intermittent fasting has benefits and drawbacks. And for a bit I was doing more of a fast mimicking approach because of some digestive issues. I've been doing maintenance for a few months. I'm mostly strict 2 mad and do mostly 16:8 as intentional, but sometimes do 20+ unintentionally. With my fast mimicking I couldn't do things like keto coffee because it's a trigger food. So I did non caffeinated herbal teas I diluted 1oz broth into and 1-2 tsp coconut oil. Sometimes I did that before my workout sometimes I didn't because first thing in the morning I have to a)take levothyroxine on a empty stomach and wait a hour before taking any other meds or supplements and b) am taking folate tabs along with the rest of my meds which I can take together but the folate also is a empty stomach thing so I have to wait a hour in between that and the levo. Add in I am thirsty in the morning and tea and levo also need a hour spacing and it became a timing thing more than anything else. I'm taking folate because during a month stint of carnivore behind digestive issues where I was eating loads of red meat and folate rich organs like beef kidney I tested deficient in folate and i have a history of anemia so i went the suppliment route to course correct myself. If you want to not workout fasted maybe trying something like that could work. Also shifting to a 12:12 routine and doing a protein shake/smoothie before your workout could work as another option.

We tend to do bulk meal prep and then grab pieces to create faster meals for individuals. So I'll prep chick pea pasta, ground turkey, and marinara sauce, and then we can custom our meals for the week that way, but not everyone has the exact same thing.
