40 here. Been working as a contract-to-hire for almost 10 years now at the same place. $164,000 in student loan debt. Never married, no house, no retirement or savings. $51k salary with a master degree in cybersecurity. Have around 20 awards for excellent service at the company, and 14 I.T. certifications. Been looking for a better job for 5 years, no one ever calls back. Throw some of that good luck my way. Glad to hear things improved for you.

I’m an electrical engineer with some experience in cybersecurity. At $51k with 10 years experience? You’re getting screwed over, my friend. If it’s possible, you need the option to RELOCATE. Have someone critique your resume. If you’re not getting callbacks, it’s your resume. There’s a lot of Cybersecurity jobs out there. Find one that could get you a clearance. Don’t be discouraged because the job market sucks right now. Just keep trying.

I miss when there was some level of professionalism no matter what field you are in. People just aren't as great as they used to be so that will also effect the job market and everything.
@measlesplease1266
@measlesplease1266 18 дней назад
It's actually professionalism that's the problem. People have to find underhanded lowkey ways of telling you you're doing a bad job. Instead of telling someone what they're doing wrong, people either start using micro expressions on you or bad mouth you behind your back. Back handed compliments. Rather than be "unprofessional" and tell you why you're doing a bad job. I would rather be able to unprofessionally tell my boss to f off. That's more normal.
@capulater
@capulater 6 дней назад
Yup. And the double standard of hiring managers expecting the interviewees to be extremely professional really takes the cake. Hiring manager is usually late, acts like a jerk, doesn't respond back in a reasonable time, but expects us to be absolutely perfect.

I took a 60% paycut to go make $25 an hour at a company that saw me as expendable. I knew they saw me as that, and i gave the effort they deserved. Know your worth. Dont give them everything when their idea of a bonus or raise is a quarter or a $30 Walmart gift card
@RetroGamesAddict
@RetroGamesAddict 19 дней назад
When you get that $30 gift card to walmart or any other store, you realize you could have just not worked as hard and sold something on ebay you found at a thrift store, or buy a few stocks and make that money with a few finger clicks. Legit like an hour of extra work here and there at your own free time to make the few extra bucks. It is robbery what some places do to try to incentivize people to work harder man.
@theshapeexists
@theshapeexists 19 дней назад
@@RetroGamesAddict exactly. My wife and I lived off her salary while I invested 100% of my income in the stock market. After a few years I had made enough to quit my job and become my dad's caretaker. Now the government pays me $25 an hour to take care of my dad, which I was doing anyway. I haven't had a job in 2 years, I get to spend my time with the people who matter, not a stupid boss who thinks I'm expendable. I could make more, but with the investing, we're doing just fine and I'm way happier
@RetroGamesAddict
@RetroGamesAddict 19 дней назад
@@theshapeexists I wish I started stocks sooner. I started when I was 23, but if I started when I was even younger, I would be a millionaire. It is a corrupt system for sure, if you have a richer family, you can leverage their money in investments and basically not have to even work from a young age. I barely got an education (basic college diploma) and worked pretty much just dead end jobs, and still have more to show from it than most late 20s people simply from investments, living frugal, and reselling my hobbies. Kinda sad really. The hard work is a lie. Glad to hear you made it work and are happier!

Its tough. Everywhere in the world its the same story. 17 years at a factory 12 years supervisor. Worked hard for 5years, 110% commitment, minimal holidays, no sick days off etc. Middle management is where im at. Its stressful and its hard. Pressure is always on. Huge turnover in employees, 80% of workers coming in dont make it and leave. Its not for everyone. Money is good for everyone, work is hard and long hours. Im not there to make it easy nor keep people happy. I rotate positions and try to be fair in workload and responsibilities.I try to do my best to be productive and make sure everyone goes home safely without injury as a priority. At the end of the day im there to do my job as my supervisors and owners are riding my back.

Lol This sounds like a typical union job, where a few people work their asses off and the rest of the people sleep and hide all night and the supervisors never come around and when they do come around the lazy people are the first ones to be in the supervisors face putting on a show because they network and always know when the Boss is going to come around. And it's hard to get rid of union workers because they are protected by the 3 strike rule so they pretty much know that they don't have to do anything or the minimum.You have to remember this rule: First you're shocked, then you're pissed, then you have to say fuck it This is how it is! once you make it to rule 3 you'll be okay 😂😂

I don't know your life story, but I am only a few years younger than you, and I think you should give yourself a lot of slack for not having a life plan in your 20's. For me, most of my life in my 20's was Hell because I bought a house at 21 to escape douche family members and the U.S. Job market became garbage in the late 00's and remained that way for a long time. It was almost ten years after that that higher paying jobs popped up again. YES, there were some in my area, but you had to fall into employment with them through blind luck/filling a quota. My dad talked to men from other parts of the country that echoed that $10 to $14 an hour jobs were all that were out there. So even though I was motivated through the roof in my 20's there were no companies willing to train you in a trade anymore and no "REAL" jobs. Now I get to play catch up on funding retirement.

Unfortunately the way companies treat employees can also be contributed to the debt our country is in. Our country's at an all time high for inflation and companies can't afford to loose money and hold sentimental value on employees. People are treated like business as a direct reflection to debt and money. The same way I can't afford to miss a week of work right now a business simply can't afford to care in depth about every employee just incase one were to get fired, you're not held back by emotion. It's purely profit and prosper. It's unfortunate but it's the reality of most businesses in America right now, some can barely afford to even pay their employees higher because products costs are so high, shipping is high, rent and land taxes are high. There's not much room to loose money anymore.

@@RedLegPiper I refuse to let my wife work in a you know what ring dude . That’s weird . This isn’t about taxes . If that’s what a job is nowadays , we’ll adapt . Some things are non-negotiable to some people . I practice Free Trade . I don’t pay taxes on every little thing in life . Say you find a moving job moving furniture for a few hours . The first thing you think about is only keeping 65% of it ? That’s weird too . But that’s a separate thing . My concern is how you’re talking about men going their own way , you quit your job , and your wife didn’t . That’s concerning as hell dude . If I did a job just like that where I’m only getting 20 for 2 hours , I’m putting 10 to 20 in the gas tank and probably getting a decent meal with the rest . I’m not giving it away to some government .

This here ladies and gentlemen is the closed mindset individual. At 40 you could start a business and make more in one day than you did in a week at a warehouse job or more! Read a book, open your mind.
