I Quit Social Media For 8 Months | This Is What Happened

After spending about 3 years of posting daily tips on Instagram and making 3-4 value posts every week, I disappeared for about 8 months.
Now it wasn't something I really planned on doing. I just decided to take about a 2 week break to really focus on my business and see how I could help my clients with everything that was going on in the world around March.
But during these 2 weeks I started to notice that I really enjoyed not being on social media. And despite the fact that it was my main way of getting coaching students, I decided to stay away for a while.
During the 8 months that I was gone from Social media I noticed 3 major things:
1. My screentime went from 2-3 hours / day to at some point 6 minutes per day. This meant I had an additional 14+ hours every week to spend on more productive things.
2. No more instant dopamine release - no procrastination
The way that our brain works is quite simple: we have to spend time and energy into doing something and as a reward our brain releases dopamine which makes us feel happy and good.
These days we have this constant flow of dopamine because of social media, netflix and all the other things.
By removing as much of this new layer as possible, we actually need to take action in order to get that reward. As a result you will notice a major decrease in procrastination.
3. Increased productivity
One of the main issues we are facing these days is that we are never taking proper breaks. A proper break means giving our brain a break. Scrolling through social media, watching a RU-vid video or listening to a podcast is not giving your brain a break.
What I noticed happening to me is that I now started leaving my phone at home and actually take real breaks. In turn this lead to more productive workblocks.
So not only did I have more time (less screentime), I also spent the time better (no procrastination) and more productive).
As final words I would say: I wouldn't necessarily say to completely delete all social media apps, but be conscious of how you are using it. Unfollow people / pages which are not providing any family or aren't close friends, and schedule in time to use social media.
This way you can still enjoy it and use it to your benefit, but it shouldn't be controlling your life.

Being conscious of how you use social media should 100% be in your 2021 goals!

If people one day woke up and become happy with themselves imagine how many industries would run out of business
