What happens to your body when you run a half marathon every day for 7 days? Well, thanks to our friends at Nuzest, we challenged Mark to take it on! Between the working week and other commitments, this was going to be no mean feat! Could he complete it? Use discount code 'GTN10' when you checkout with Nuzest 👉 gtn.io/Nuzest

Alright, you’ve seen the title of the video - You’re probably thinking we're mad? Yeah, this one is tough, although this time it wasn’t solely our idea; Nuzest has challenged Mark to this one. A half-marathon every day for a week!
Mark will be trying to cram his workouts before and after those hours, as we're sure many of you would have to do too. We're intrigued to see how Mark's body copes, and what happens to it over the course of the week. And he'll be sharing all of that with you, as well as how he manages that training and fatigue through the week!
If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍

Done it for a month. On a couple of ocations. It's not really a problem, if you remember to keep the pace at right levels. Not every day slow, but with variation, but not so that recovery keeps accumulating. The problem is finding the time, with work, commute, children, family and friends..., and life... For the last 12 years, I've been a single-dad with a son with autisme. He attends a special school, but sometimes needs days at home, when he's batteries needs a recharge. He has precedence above running and everything else !

You can do this when you are young, but as you get older, you need more recovery time. When I was in my 30s, I could run everyday (but I alternated between hard and easy days). Now, over 30 years later and still running regularly (although I have now switched to triathlons instead of just running), I can't plan my week ahead of time. I have to listen to my body more and wait until I'm recovered. I still feel fortunate to still be running after all these years. I am half way through my 43rd year of long distance running. I love it still.
@oftenwrongphong

I agree. Although I still don't consider anything under 10 miles much of a run, I'm approaching 50 and have decided to base my training on amount time I'm able to fall asleep + how I feel upon waking. I still exercise everyday with few exceptions, but there are more and more 7 milers and bike rides in there lol

Thank you, Mark for becoming a motivator in my life. It’s such a mental game when being stalked and swallowed up by a crippling childhood disease. I have often struggled with suicidal ideation because of the immense pain and hopelessness. Whenever I doubt my ability to survive I come here and find the courage to fight and push through the pain. I will never run, but what little I can do, I do with ferocity. The human spirit can overcome anything, and I can see that every time you push beyond your own mind and body. Might I suggest a small amendment: instead of making it fixed distance (1k a year), make it a percentage, like a 20% increase every year (after you run 20k, 25 really isn't that much more). I did the Qingdao virtual half marathon this year, and next year's goal is a 70.3, and a full Marathon in 2022 (roughly 40% increase year over year from 2020).

I'm doing right now something quite similar. I'm in the day 4 for running halfmarathons everyday. And I don't know how long it will last, I didn't define a goal. But I included some extra rules. I need to make each one in an average pace faster than 5 minutes /km. And I do it barefoot and wearing a mask all the time. Yes, barefoot. I ran almost exclusively wearing sandals for about 5 years and since october I started trying barefoot and and felling pretty well. In my personal experience I prefer to run in early morning with no previous meal. Also do not drink any water during the exercise. and no sort of nutritional supplement at all. Just real food. For my first 4 days I can say it is working nice, I fell no pain and not tired. I try to take some 15-min break after the lunch, but it is not always possible.

Should you rather say « I ran 21k per day for a week » instead ? A half marathon is a race. If you were to race every day that would’ve been a different story. Your challenge is about significantly increasing your mileage overnight during a week which is not recommended for anyone. It is also a matter of pace. Doing one in the morning the next one in the evening etc and alternating slower/ faster pace could have been a good way to cope with the load.

I ran 90 k in a week, while working and also having swim and bike training sessions. It really depends on your level of fitness and commitment. I ran 180km one week. Last day I experienced the rush called Runner's high. Sadly been chronically fatigued for many years, maybe my adrenals or hear, I don't know,. Lucky to run 10km in 50 minutes. I would love to get back to weeks such as yours some day.

I would totally try this challenge! In fact, I run 10-12 miles 5 days a week plus a long run (20ish miles) on Saturday while taking Sunday off. I rarely run more than one run in a day. So, that puts my mileage typically around 70-75 miles a week. Oh, I also work full-time, so all of my runs are at 5am. Anyways, thanks for the video and content!

Ths 4 sharing Ur experiment. Before I ran 100-kilometer, I did finish n got finisher medal n could have gone longer but did not prepare well enough 4 applying vasline cream in my ankle area n got skin peeled off so I had 2 quit after 62.5 miles or bit over 100-kilometers, becuase the race was both 100-kilometer N 100-miles n was aming for 100-miles n might have been finished shape wise I was OK if it wasn't 4 my ankle area (where Ur ankle keep brushing againt) skin peel off. If U want to train for 100-kilometer n even 100-miles U need to be able to run 3-4 times a week half marathon for at least 6-weeks before the race, which I trained, but need so much rest PLUS I usually swim 3-4 times a week for mile after run, so I had NO issue with any aches n paints as swimming will take care of all that muscle strains, but MUST eat well like quality home made meal with complex carbo like quality paster, minimum of 4-grams of wonderful fiber (!) and or good quality brown rice with wonderful fiber (3-grams in quality organic brown rice quality indeed!), and finish with fruits n teas (breakfast black tea n afternoon n evening all different flavors of hurb teas!!!). NO alchol, NO smoke, NO soda, NOTHING come out fr Cow's-nipple n it worked 4 me. The same training was 4 when I was training 4 S.F Alcatraz Island to S.F Bay Ocean Open water swimming n Boston Marathon {I already had well under 4-hours finished 9-marathons under my belt!}, qualfication marathon, 50K, 50-miles, 11,600 trail marathon in Utah City Creek Cannyon, (one of the best n toughest with all that jaggered rocks which is why beside time winner, also has MOST bloodist winner, almost always fell down, scrapes in sharp jaggered rocks everywhere in thar race n we ran down like "deer!" There is another fantastic rear-kicking "50-kilometers in one of the toughest 50-kilometer anywhere is called "Olney Wildeness in Fremont, California!" which I also finished but it was tough n VERY nice wooden inscribed race finisher pack (check it out in their website but register early as it closed early due to ONLY limited runners are allowed due to environmental impacts!). *I ran "ALL by myself" 10,000 feet high PLUS, **I was the first one to ever went to top of the Mount Olympus, has pictures (took camera n tri-pod to take auto-shots), along the way n top of the moutain ALL by myself n there are deers around near top of the aforementioned mountain, so I would NOT run in dark, as I came down it was getting dark n I ran down with extreme caution n ran down like dog put tail in beween (laugh!)! *** U are what U eat n eat so well with home cooking, I prepare every meal for myself, all kinds of fruits, true complex carboes n teas, stated, n buy **** quality shoes, "compression knee or calve sheeves, medium sized pouch for carrying gues, one bottle n apply vasiline or other foot creams n VERY highly recommend "iinjue sox or hand glove like soxes will cool n prevent abrasion between toes, shoe should be good quality marathon shoe for Ur foot type n the WHOLE point is "MUST do research BEFORE taking any distant running starting from 10k to all the way to 100-miles which the ONLY thign I left to do in few years as I am busy for now. Hope this infor would be helpful from someone who actually done every single races n open water swimming races ,2.4 miles 3-of them. *Never took ANY supplement n sufficent amount of sleep, best of everthing, EVERY day N EVERY breakast I ate, still is until my last day from the earth, "quality steel oat meal with greeen lefty vegis, spinich, kale, chared, bok choy, collard green (most skin helping colligen contains!), etc. etc. NO strach before run but MUST after due to all that mucle fiber n tendons are well warmed, but recommend take hot shower before running, espeically before race day), carrots, blue barries add last minutes with banna also, ! NEVER eatin "anyting" or food or jell or proten power that contains EVEN "dervative from animal cow-nipple-that is PURE fact our liver cannot n wiill NOT be able to fully break down to degistable molecures is scientific fact, even though Northern European decendents can tolerate better but NOT still able to fully break down due to "inter-specy" Or we are NOT a baby cow, any question? Any one any body consuming anything come from cow, shall pay dearly sooner or later againt Ur health is NOT guess but cold-scientific fact! Any quetion? Exercise common sense if U care about ur health by stay away from anything come out from cow's nipple-which tooooo many people are not aware of... From the USA

i remember seeing this set of runs on strava a few weeks ago and had been anticipating the accompanying video. I use the green powder drink from Nuzest as well - although i tend to add it to my recovery protein and also to smoothies rather than just on its own. As a suggestion, you might want to consider adding a little turmeric powder and black pepper to your recovery drinks (turmeric is an anti inflammatory whilst the black pepper helps with absorption). This time next year the Boxing Day GTN video will be , "I Ran A FULL Marathon Every Day & This Is What Happened!"

Can you do a video on aerobic vs anerobic training. Most notablly the fact that Anerobic abillity sticks without training, but aerobic needs to be constantly worked on or you lose it. Perhaps a few Anerobic workouts. Solid effort. I was wondering what the runs on strava was.

In October 2016, I did my first ever Half Marathon. It was the Heartland Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k. The guest speaker was Frank Shorter. Yes, THE Frank Shorter! The first ever Olympic Gold Medalist for the Marathon. He did the same exact race I did as well. The Heartland Half. He still can run at 70+ years of age. I was impressed. From that day to now, I have ran 9 half marathons one of them was out of town and in not in my home state (Kansas City Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k). That race in October 2017 was the toughest race I have ever did. You think Omaha is too hilly, go to Kansas City it's much worse and very hilly. The Paseo long steep 2 mile uphill battle got me. When I got to 18th and Vine and that hill was next I'm thinking "Oh Crap!". It wasn't easy. It wasn't fun. But I did and that race had the best afterparty ever. They really cared about the athletes there let alone the volunteers. finished my first ever marathon last year in September. Guess what race? Yep the Heartland Marathon, this time the actual event. When it's your first ever Marathon and training 10 week

It is quite a personal thing from my understanding and use. A high and good hrv for one may be low for someone else. Personally anything around 70 and above feels good for me. As I get down to low 60s and below there is something up. That’s not to say you can’t train, but perhaps need to hold back on the intensity and stress. Some apps are good at determining a low hrv that is fine, and a low hrv that indicates something is up.

Example: 1. 11 you run 1 km, 2.11 you run 2 km ..... 30.11 you run 30 km and you must run every day! I am on the 13th kilometre right now, and it is a very exciting challenge!

Oddly as the week went on I felt like I was running more efficiently. But as soon as I stopped I felt really flat. It took me a good week or two before I felt like myself again. If I had built up gradually I’m sure it would have been fine, but this was a big shock to the system. Also, it does show the value of recovery. I would always suggest a good recovery week every 3-4 weeks so your body can catch up and adapt
