As a former runner I know this is hard. About 6 years ago in my mid 40s where I was running a 5K three times a week I had a goal to do a single 6 minute mile. Tried it a few dozen times but fell short with the best at 6 min and 28 seconds. I have since switched to inline skating as it's quite a bit easier on my aging knees. In that sport a marathon is doable for me in under 3 hours.
Yeah when I saw this video I was like meh he’s prolly going slow like a 12 minute pace and then he said he was trying to finish in under three and I was like DAMN never mind that is fast
Barring the pros almost everyone is happy to talk for at least the first half of the marathon. Which feels like the first 20 miles. Honestly the first 1/2 to 3/4 feels just like just another weekly long run, like you've been doing for months, except you're super hyped, well rested, and fed for it! You usually get about 20 miles of that "oh, we're killing this workout!" feeling before your body realizes what's happening and hates you.
This actually helps a lot, diverting the pain and exhaustion. Not a pro but I noticed when I run alone, 5km is already exhausting, but when I'm with someone I don't even realize I already ran 20+km
Most people run long distances at low efforts. My faster long distance runs will be at a tempo pace. I'm a trail ultra runner, haven't done a road race at all in years. Ironically, planning on running my first road 5k in probably a decade next week 🤷♀️
The running community as a whole is super supportive and very chill, I loved running my first marathon. Haven’t ran one in almost a year due to surgery but definitely look forward to doing it again.
Thank you for this. I used to be a big runner. I loved it. But fell into a deep depression and am still working to be a little better everyday. Ive gotten to the point where I’m finding the joy in my interests again and running being one of them. This definitely brought a smile to my face and made me want to run a little more. So thank you💛
Not sure if you will read this or not but, when I find myself in a slump my go to is running. I use that time to think about things going on in my life and what I can do to resolve those problems. I'd say most of the time I don't come up with a solution but I do feel better after going for a run. I guess one could say that running is a way for me to cope with things in my life. Maybe that will help you out some.
because of how much you willing suffered for this video, I gave you a sub. I know it is not much, but damn man, your will power and determination is something I wish others had more of.
a saying in sweden is "många bäckar små" means many small creeks, basically a subtle way of saying that it starts off small but compounds into a larger thing
Okay so this guy makes it look very easy. For the ones who are unaware, running a marathon itself is very difficult let alone finish it and to do that in crocs? That's beyond me how he did that.
wonderful, now explain WHY he decided to do it. that part has me baffled. . . attention seeking? youtube vid? what? what was his goal to mutilitate himself?
@@kantraxoikol6914 because he wants to send the message that even things that seem impossible to do can be done. And once you do it, say it was too easy and help others do things equally challenging by uplifting them and showing that it's not as impossible as they once thought it was. I think the message here is nothing but positive.
As a person who runs in crock (yes actually), focus on your form and making sure you're not just slamming your feet into the ground but actually getting suspension both landing and lifting since the crocks themselves have little built-in suspension in the base of the shoe.
I’ve heard of a guy who does ultras in them. Was thinking they’re probably suited to a certain running style but not this guys. Maybe has something to do with foot width as well.
i love how Isaiah and the guy in the last miles was amazing that is when they were just talking and being respectful and confident thats the good things in life from what isaiah said" you can do whatever you want when you put your mind to it" it just makes people more confident in life so thank you isaiah.
This video just made me cry from the part with Danilo! Human connection is so beautiful. You can do anything you set your mind to. I think that women don’t get told that enough.
I don’t usually comment on videos but as a runner myself I have to say this much levels of dedication for content is so remarkable and impressive you’ve really deserved everything u worked for because your a hard worker this is insane. Stay hard
Holy crap dude. Thank you for this. Crocs are the ultimate footwear. I’ve been wearing them for 18 years now. Year round. Snow, mud, ice, Idgac. I’ve done several hikes in crocs. 8 miles on a paved road on mackinaw island. And 18 miles in the mountains up north near Canada.
4:08 Bruh, that's actually impressive 😂. Probably the first ad read for ridge wallet that had me thinking about getting one just because you did it during a marathon
@@orang9134 The world record is still pretty close to that at, I believe, 2:01:4x. Though I don't think that many realize how incredible running even an hour slower than the world record is. To match the record, you would have to run the marathon at a pace of roughly 4:39 a mile, which is a daunting task for just one mile. On the other hand, a three-hour time or similar still requires a sub-seven-minute mile pace, which may not sound as impressive, but over 26.2 miles, that becomes a very formidable run.
@@dylanlhs reminds me of the pacer tests; the ultimate tests to remind you how fucking unfit you are. I almost fainted after trying to go for a 10mins a mile
I literally teared up hearing Dan’s story! I do bike tours and it’s always amazing the people you meet and how much they can make a difference in your experience. Awesome video!
I knew I saw you at the finish line area! You passed close by the medical volunteer sweep team where I was helping runners after their race. Legendary performance!!
People who run marathons have energy. Energetic people are friendly. It's the rest of us who are sick, tired, and depressed so we don't feel good to be friendly.
@@DandyParrott thats really true since when I was depressed I didint have any energyalso I didint care about myself or others around me making me more negative.
Omg! I tried that once but not a marathon.. maybe tmi but it rubbed on my feet so much that it literally took of the skin on my feet. It hurt so bad, that’s true dedication isaiah ❤
That is so crazy! I was in bootcamp just outside of Chicago and left just a few days before the marathon! To think I could’ve seen you in crocs had I been there just a few days longer XD
Man, I used to run xc in hs, only ever won one third place medal, recently picked up exercising again & tried to run a 3.5 solo. I got about a half mile in before I was like nope I can’t anymore🤣 but watching this is pretty inspirational. I deadass never thought I’d say this but shit. Running a marathon is on my bucket list now! 3+ hours of jogging/running absolutely blows my mind
I signed up for a bucket list marathon 15 years ago. Struggled to waddle half a mile. Spent 18 months training. Fast forward, I'm down over 50 pounds, race mountain bikes at the pro level and think of a marathon as just doing a long run. Planning on 40 miles next weekend. Just start, build up slow, and enjoy the process.
@@JoshuaTootell wow congratulations!!! I’m definitely going to start training I’ve been doing short jogs here & there thinking of starting back on mile long runs or jogs to work it up. Hopefully by next year I can do one! But wow that’s incredible man you’re an inspiration!
O my gosh, I was in Chicago during the marathon and never thought that someone was going to do it in crocs, especially Isiah Photos. The marathon was insane and I wish I say you
