Putting The Road to El Dorado, my personal favorite DreamWorks movie, below all of the Trolls movies, The Boss Baby and Shrek the Third is certainly a bold choice. I honestly kinda respect you for it.

Road to El Dorado is one of my favorite. I love that it cleverly avoids any liar reveal cliché by making the chief very aware that they weren’t god but letting them go with it as in the end they brought hope to his people.

Okay, all of your criticisms of Shark Tale are valid and it is indeed a bad movie, but I'm simply glad it exists because of our Lord and Savior, Mr. Puff Daddy Sikes! Praise be to him! I personally disagree on your takes on Madagascar 2 and 3. I didn’t laugh once watching Madagascar 3. For me it suffers from the issues you pointed out for Madagascar 2 : it’s just a series of slapstick with no consistent plot. At least in Madagascar 2 I liked they tried to do something with the character relations, like Alex not able to recognize Marty’s scratch from other zebras’ scratch, Alex getting tricked to be forced to give up the throne to Makunga, the Motomoto stuffs and the love triangle with Melman and Gloria. Also it was the most natural way to continue the story by getting the characters of the first movie back in their own environment and flashing them as individuals among their species. Also the grandma is wild in this movie. Idk in my ranking I’d switched the places between Madagascar 2 and 3.
The 2h movie is just a bunch of paralell stories who are barely hold together in the big schemes of the things. So we have Alex reconnecting with his parents and family, Marty joining in a bunch of indentical zebras, Melman apparently sick and in love with Glória... you could honestly take this film and cut scissor them to do a tv show with episodes. The movie just feel all over place. Makunga is such a lame villain, such a cringe copycat of Scar, and all this plot is just a blatant, vastly inferior King Lion piracy. Alex's conflict with his father is such a "son wants to be a performe while his dad wants him to be a bruiser" cliche, zero originality after all. Marty's arc is just a retread of the first movie, his indentity crisis and tension with Alex, nothing new about him. Melman and Glória just feel contrived, this doesn't exist in the first movie but he's suddenly in love with her now and apparently this date to childhood. Not to mention this sequel breaks all the original's internal logic "food chain", lions being predators and Alex attacking his friends for food... but in this sequel lions live peacefully with their prey in Africa, without any problem... such a blatant inconsistency and continuity error. Like the writers have forgotten all the first movie conflict. The best things about this movie is MotoMoto and Nana stuff. Aside of this sequel is so mediocre and full of errors.
Madagascar 2 being the worst but Madagascar 3 beings the best is by far the most unexpected take I've seen anyone have! And I weirdly respect that! Lol
Madagascar (the first one) is my favorite Dreamworks movie. I also love all the geometric and angular shapes and designs. It's something a lot of animated films don't have really. Everything is always aiming to be perfect with perfect proportions and realistic fur and shit, but this movie just had fun with it and thats what I love about it. I also thought the overall theme was solid and the jokes were perfect
The Croods: A New Age is my favorite DreamWorks film and my all time favorite animated film. It has beautiful animation, likable characters with Dawn Betterman being my favorite character in the film and my all time favorite DreamWorks character and my DreamWorks crush 😻 (please don’t judge me) and it has a great message about accepting one’s differences and finding a non violent approach to deescalate situations and about friendship and acceptance and it has a great score by Mark Mothersbaugh I love every thing about the film

I tended to like mixing traditional and computer animation, that *can* look weird but generally actually worked well, I thought it made sense what specifically was done with and through computer animation.

Agreed some of the characters in The Prince of Egypt were underwhelming or just OK, I think the problem was not that it was too short in itself but that too much time was pretty wasted with songs.
Bro HTTYD 2 is an abosolute masterpiece of a sequel. It ain't the weakest of the trilogy. I Don't know why you people have such a big issue with the 2nd one saying that it's weak. Shrek the third is very bad yes but in my opinion its not the worst one. Home and Shark Tale are dreadful. Shark Tale was so bad that even though it made Dreamworks profit they never made a sequel.
@@freezasama5802 Yeah more enjoyable in YOUR opinion. Shark Tale is also disgusting to look at for the whole run time, which at least Shrek the Third doesn't have those issues. I love Martin Scorsese as a director, and he is probably one of the best things in Shark Tale to be fair. But the script is so bad that it doesn't matter.

Before you read my comment, I want to clarify that I did not write it with any real ill feelings toward you. Nor did I write it out of blind religiosity, I'm not religious, I just love this movie and have strong feelings that I'd like to express. So no offense, no matter any of my word choices. With that in mind -Ok man I can understand you having an unpopular opinion but what you said about the prince of Egypt is stupid to say the least. This is the best told DreamWorks movie and anyone who gives me Shrek like nonsense in front of it just doesn't know what they are talking about. Is Shrek a good movie subversive and very funny - yes of course both Shrek movies are - but that's about it. The Prince of Egypt gives us a great version of Moses who is very human reacting to everything and is not just a stoic hero who is just like - well I will free my people and I am the voice of God, that's enough isn't it - like more or less in the bible and in every other version of Moses. It gives us the phenomenal Ramses, who feels a bunch of emotions during the film along the lines of his brother - happiness, sadness, anger, pity, it's not simple - I'm the evil pharaoh of Egypt, who naturally is an ass and defies God, without literally no reason - as it is more or less in the bible with one small exception in the details but still - you know about the hardened heart and stuff. Speaking of which, it's nice that here it's changed to Ramses having to "harden" his heart himself, because it makes him more interesting as a character and burdened with the burden of his father's crown, instead of God hardening his heart, which one part from the Bible story that when you read it you say to yourself - ok that doesn't make sense at all, why would God do that. The movie is smart enough to see such holes in logic and morality and change them to get better drama between the characters and the tragedy to be the result of Ramses' "justified in his eyes" stubbornness, not things which either make no sense or directly raise quite a few questions about morality. You say you already know the story and at the same time you miss the fact that the focus of the story has changed to the brothers and the tragedy between them. Did you watch the right movie at all or did you watch the original Ten Commandments by mistake. I ask because I notice amateur errors in your arguments. As for the music - it's phenomenal - deliver us and the plague song are specifically in the top 5 badass animated songs for me. But this with music is subjective so ok I'll let you think what you want about it because it's not something objective and more about who feels how. However, I will say this - since you mentioned The Lion King - I may love The Lion King but that doesn't mean I won't say things that are bad in this movie - the overall package of songs in this movie are criminally overrated - not the score - the score is great i'm talking specifically about the songs - be prepared - the goat, circle of life - at the beginning it's pretty meh but towards the end it's also great, i can't wait to be king - directly skipped, it's a baby song/ i don't care that serves as a good character contrast to Scar's song/ can you feel the love tonight - it's hard, they only knew each other as kids, then they meet and boom love, because you know that's how it works, Hakuna matata - I want someone to explain how intelligent human beings with common sense can like this abomination - I'm serious here, I want an explanation. I just wanted to highlight this. The animation and style - do I have to comment here - you have to be a professional nitpicker to grumble about this / not that you did, i'm just talking in general/ - the artistry is phenomenal and loads of shots and style but lighting many of which are homages to older films - pure cinema - that's how it should be to shoot things that are expected to look epic. This movie is better than any Disney movie including The Lion King - and anyone who tells me otherwise - grow up and take things seriously - and yes I know there is comedy in Prince of Egypt too but it has a purpose - it serves as a calm before the storm/the fall of Egypt and to make it very clear that the relationship and love between the brothers is genuine - giving them moments of joy youthful carefreeness before we jump into the old testament mode - again serving the tragedy, if you know someone and had fun with them, it hurts much more when the time to part comes. This is also the reason why the comedy is mainly from the beginning to the middle, and from there on, serious. But hey - maybe it's too much to expect kids to understand how cinema works. And also - I already know the story, doesn't count as a real criticism my friend - I'm saying it because you mentioned it - by that logic you shouldn't like the Lion king because it's literally the story of prince Hamlet, with much less work on the characters - I can't believe I have to explain this - cinema and movies don't work like that.

Deliver us is a great song. I agree with the animation, however the CGI shots have ages poorly. I say I know the story already, but that wasn't me making a jab against the movie at all, I was just stating that I knew it. The story of the brothers is done fine enough and there are good moments, but that's about it for me. I really don't see why you are hung up about claiming that it's better then all Disney Films and Shrek. There are many Disney Films that are better in my opinion, and Shrek is just, well Shrek. There's a reason why he's stayed so relevant and I even made a video a while back solely on that movie on why it works so well. Also nothing in The Lion King soundtrack sounds as bad as "you're playing with the big boys now" in The Prince of Egypt. I am a massive lover of movies, and have seen many of the 'classics', with some holding up and some don't. This was one of them. I would never claim someone is stupid or needs to grow up for having a different opinion to me. Not that review sites are the be all and end all, but IMDB has The Prince of Egypt at a 7.2. Again, there are plenty of movies I love with scores around there, but most people who watch it think that it's a good movie, but not amazing. For me, it's an okay film with some really cool moments. Think about the story of the Lion King - this is the story of Hamlet which is taken from an old Scandinavian myth about Prince Amlet - about the man who is a prince, his father is killed, the evil uncle, revenge - the simplest and easiest to follow of any story of the world. Combine this archetype with the kid-successful formula of - spectacular songs, ''as bad as Hakunamata is, kids are dumb about this stuff, they don't understand, they like the bullshit'' combined with comedic climaxes because we can't be too serious'' there is almost no film from the Disney renaissance that doesn't have a dumb comedy in its climax, just like the Marvel movies, only that with Marvel it's worse'' plus a really cool moment as in the case of The Lion King, ''the death of Mufasa'' = great movie for kids to keep scrolling. Here's the reason. I know that sounds like a gross oversimplification, and yes, there are reasons beyond that, but let's be honest people, that's just how movies work with kids. Why do you think The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the least successful, and there is comedy in there, it's just that the serious stuff is too much for most kids at a young age. How on earth can you say music is subjective and films aren't? They're both pieces of art that anyone can like or dislike for any reason. I'm not dogging on you for loving the movie. Yes there are objective merits to a film and I wasn't that engaged into the brother's story. The film objectively looks amazing at points, but again if you don't like the art style on any animated movie that's completely fine. Both music and films are objective and subjective. Just because a movie is good or bad objectively doesn't mean people have to enjoy it. For you it's too black and white, either like the movie or you don't know what you're talking about. I don't love the movie, and I know why I don't, particularly because the story is so grand that the character moments particularly on Moses are not fleshed out enough. I wanted the movie to be longer to be honest. The movie has the potential to be great. The CGI isn't the worst in this movie like it is in some of the other Dreamworks movies, but the basket and the scaffolding are ones off the top of my head that stick out, not terribly, but it is noticeable. I watched it with my friend and we got the complete opposite effect from you guys. The movies that stand the test of time have either cultural significance (Avatar because of 3-D, Harry Potter because of the book series) or are just really good. Sometimes a really bad film gets remembered for the wrong reasons, but we are always saying "They don't make them like they used to", when simply mediocre products get lost to time. Film Critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel said this very thing all the time back in their day. Yet we always look back with rose tinted glasses on a decade as we already know the amount of good movies. The Prince of Egypt is a film that is well liked enough to be remembered throughout the years. I think that you think the general public are more inept than they actually are, and my general consensus is linked to the IMDB score, which will have way more "film bros" connected to it as the people that dumb in your eyes would never be bothered to rate the movie. The vast majority of people would be able to say it was acted well, has an interesting story etc. It's why I think I knew what the better animated films were as a kid and would watch them more than others, because although I couldn't say why a film worked I knew the great ones subconsciously. It's not a universally loved movie by critics man. Popular film critics such as IHE and YMS think its good and meh like me, with YMS not caring for it. He's a massive film reviewer who's very respected on this site and I challenge you to listen to the podcast he did on it and tell him he's wrong. It's an opinion. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your friends finding lord of the rings dumb boring and stupid. I've never been that into fantasy, and I didn't like them when I was a kid. Once growing up I can appreciate them a whole lot more now but I'd completely see why if someone said Lord of the Rings isn't their thing. Think about the hobbit trilogy, nobody cares for them anymore but the book is really great and I'd happily read that again then watch the movies. The book has stood the test of time, and the movies haven't. People are not that stupid. They can clearly define a great trilogy from a bad one. I know people in my life who wouldn't get much out of it and find it boring. It's just not their type of movie. What is wrong with that? If you'd ask me and most people they would say nothing.

I'm sorry but that doesn't count as a good argument, the critics have fallen from grace a long time ago and for good reason, why do you think people usually don't listen to them but trust unencumbered youtube channels for opinion. As for YMS, don't give me that one as an example at all because this guy is so inconsistent with his opinions that it makes me want to cry. Here's an example, there are many but only one - he gives PRR a 3/10, a movie that is awesome in so many ways and is at least a 9/10, and a garbage like Wakanda forever 5/10, when in reality it's a 2/10 if you think about it for even a second- does this look adequately to you. Someone being a Critic does not make him flawless. Anyway. Let's not continue the whole argument about critics please because it's stupid, I don't even know why we're having this debate about the critics, it's important what we think and not be like "well they say something is good or bad and I will I listen obediently and I will not think for myself because ....reasons.'' There is absolutely nothing wrong with your friends finding lord of the rings dumb boring and stupid. - there is when these same people give me stupid reasons. I will respect any opinion when it is protected not when I hear things like I'm bored or I don't like this story - if you don't like something don't give an opinion - just say it's not for you, without talking nonsense about masterpieces. But anyway, this is still a digression into other discussions. People are not that stupid. They can clearly define a great trilogy from a bad one. - mistake my friend - you will be surprised what kind of individuals you can come across and how many of them there are. Also, people a while ago generally thought Marvel movies were great, excluding phase 4 and 5, when really 80 percent of them were super mediocre, bad, or just literally the same movie, so apparently it's not easy for people to recognize the bad. Anyway, let's put an end to this because we kind of can not discuss it without getting off topic about unrelated staff like critics for some reason. I think The prince of Egypt is a Masterpiece as does almost every RU-vid review so far. So much so that most of the titles include the word masterpiece. You think it OK which means it's good so i'm Ok with that, it's not really a negative so everything's fine.
@@FirstClassJunk A small addendum from me - i accepted you challenge and I watched the YMS podcast and with the exception of one or two small things, almost everything he talked about as a criticism was complete bullshit. Yes he IS very much wrong. I wondered if this guy even knew how movies were rated. The biggest piece of crap I heard on the podcast was about how the movie is like a montage. And interestingly enough they didn't talk about the conflict between Moses and Ramses - you know, THE ONE THING TO FOCUS ON IN THIS VERSION OF Exodus, the changed focus, these two characters are the focus, it's their conflict, the story is about the growing up of the two and not about God, the Exodus and God is just what the action revolves around, they are not the occasion they are not the focus - but it seems someone wasn't even looking at the screen - You can't make this up. These opinions were not subjective, but downright wrong - he literally does not know what he was looking at. And the other crap was about how the movie is propaganda. Does this person know what else can be called propaganda - THE CINEMA AS A WHOLE, not to mention that even if something is propaganda, that does not make it bad in terms of quality. There isn't even a single film for which the argument cannot be made that it is propaganda in some way. When someone tells you a story through a book or a movie, they are telling you from their understanding and their opinion depending on what they are telling you. But no one calls it propaganda because...well, in most cases the moral taught is "good", whatever that means, and accordingly it doesn't count as propaganda even if it is technically propaganda. Absolutely stupid criticism, and how many such I have heard from them. Oh what's this, you don't believe me, well, check out the comment section under the podcast because there were quite a few comments saying and explaining quite broadly why these two, to put it mildly, didn't understand a thing or two, and straight up explaining to them in detail where they are wrong. And the comments that agreed with them were literally only 3 or 4 and 3 of them listed things that didn't even happen in this movie, so yeah, it looks like some of the people who "understand" movies don't understand movies . He also said that he liked shazam 2, and this movie is unimaginably generic and stupid - what a cringe - here's another reason why Adam is not for setting an example with the movies. So thanks my friend for giving me yet another reason why it's not a good idea for people to listen to this podcast if they want a well-reasoned opinion. Better listen to people like Random Movie Talk - this is a good example of a person who knows how to rate movies and analyze scenes and characters in a great way.

Hey it's just my subjective opinion man I explained why I prefer the movie. Joe Crawford is an extremely talented guy and Croods 2 and Puss in boots are both really solid movies. I love the first kfp but the second is not as good for me (but still really like it). I try and keep my emotions out of it when I rank these movies and you have to understand that I watch them back to back. So lazy story tropes become ever so more annoying, hence why I really liked Croods 2, because its not just trying to be like every other animated film.
@@FirstClassJunk it's not about opinions its about quality and kfp2 is written incredibley well heck it made everyone cry and damn it was well written croods 2 is a nothing film and it might take a new story it no where near has the same impact as kfp2 ever did and ever will and you really overlooked Shrek 4 which is actually a deeper movie than you think and you just labelled it as a shrek is a joke film but it has layers honestly if you make a list learn from schafrillas and analyse each movie to as its written and not overlook it

Bro kung fu panda 2 is one of the best dreamworks films what do you want from me 😂. Your main issues seem to be with kung fu panda 2 which is one of my favourites and me preferring shrek the third to shark tale. Why does it matter both are shit. Shrek forever after is a fun film and I do like it, but the message really isn't as clever and deep as you're making it out to be. It's like the movie It's a wonderful life. That story has been done to death in movies.
