I mean, I used to sell Dysons, at closing time it refused to pick up all the loose paper and debris on the floor so we grabbed any other vacuum from the wall, usually Shark or Bissel. Though I've never owned one, they feel flimsy, I'm calling 'prestige pricing' bullshit on that brand.

Most of them are pretty cringe, especially the ones with merch and energy drinks on the shelves everywhere...is this common for kids nowadays?

A lot of tech has changed in 14 years, so the Dyson vac I'm sure is good, but a lot of other brands have closed the gap. But I think I know how your father feels. I inherited the vaccum my mom had for the family when my brother and I moved out to room together. We were roommates for five years. I've now lived on my own for two years. So this vaccum is at least 8+ years old (counting the time we had it when I lived at home). It was the Bissell PowerForce Compact, and I never had paid attention to the name of it until I stumbled upon it online while shopping for a new vac. I settled on a sister vaccum, the Bissell Powerforce Helix. It's almost twice the size of the Compact. Really, the only reason I wanted a new one was because the lid one the dust bin on the old one is broken. If not being careful, all of the dirt you've cleaned up will be deposited right back on the floor. And of course, this has happened to me before. And go figure it happened on a day I had used carpet powder to make the house smell nice, but now, all that powder was also deposited right back on the floor 😣. I just used the Helix for the first time yesterday, and oh my god the amount of dirt it picked up! I don't even wear shoes inside and never open the windows! I think it ripped up some of the carpet fibers, lol. I had returned a stick vac I stupidly had bought just the day prior and I'm happy I did. It never could've done the job the Helix did. And it even adjusts depending on the height of the carpet, a feature I didn't even know I needed until I got it! 😂😂😂. Better cleaning utensils definitely makes you want to clean more often!

This is why cheap air purifiers became a thing. In Japan (way back in the day) otakus had this issue. Dust cleaning would take too much time, so companies made commercial (apartment grade) air purifiers for people to buy after they saw the opportunity. Globally, people can thank otakus for that. Before that, you only had either prosumer stuff or surplus medical grade units. Also, none of these rooms even remotely match forum era otaku pictures of collections i've seen. None. One dude straight up lived in a cabinet room, with a human sized bunk + desk type bed. Everything else was cabinet after cabinet full of custom pieces or merch. One of the peeps there guestimated that the entire collection must've costed that guy 600k USD.

Yep. Being allergic to dust, I try to minimize clutter in the bedroom.
