In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

I think it's great that you're teaching people how to better their hair systems, and I am here for it! but in case anyone here is worried, as a complete lay person, I would NEVER have thought these guys were wearing hair systems at all. totally Undetectable to my untrained eye. they just look good!

The bottom line is when you wear a hairpiece it is best not to brush your hair all the way back, because when that hairline shows that's the giveaway.
@meteordealer

The fade with a slicked back pompadour is the LAST hairstyle anyone should get if they wear a hair system. It just draws attention to the artificial looking hairline. A messy brushed forward style is much better. It breaks up the hairline and looks much more natural.

It is certainly easier to maintain. But, Curtis Over at my hair experience has done a great job with his.

Absolutely amazing and educating video that everyone considering a system should watch. I personally have been studying hair systems myself for the last 1-2 years and have had the EXACT same thoughts as you did here about these "undercut" looks always looking at bit if not very off. But here's the thing... the short sides and heavy top is a style plenty of men have. It's in. The problem with the hair systems and this look though, is actually NOT so much the short sides at all, but more about one word - DENSITY. These companies make these systems FAR too dense, especially at the hairline area. Even as a teenager it would be unusual to have density as strong as some of these units have at the hairline area. What we need to get are these companies making more graduated (thinner) hairlines in their units, plain and simple. If you can't get a unit with that you can either thin out the hairline yourself with a tweezer (Curtis did a video on this once) or go with the the long sides look which blends it all in together much better.
@JakeKent
@JakeKent 4 года назад
For sure, the density is an issue. I’m rocking a medium now, and it’s borderline to thick. I’m going to experiment with customizing the hairline with my current unit, because, I agree. The gradiate, imperfect frontal hairlines would be far better.

It's great to hear your thoughts on textures and installations. When you get a chance it would be really helpful if you could evaluate some hair systems made for men of afro-Caribbean or afro-American heritage. My favourite content creator is @Mickeythebarber. @ 6:01 in the video I think the hair piece is great, nice unit! It's not missing a patch of hair in the front like the one I received. Very dissapointed with this defective hair frontal piece I received. I would be thilled if I received a unit as nice as this one. What was the name of the company that sales units as this one????

The second guy (as well as the first) has temple recession. Most bald men have it. When you have a low, very thick hairline from a hair piece it makes the forehead look very wide because of the lack of temple points. The third guy still has temple points so that low, thick hairline is tied in by his temple points.

I do my own systems and installations, HOWEVER, I have very low density on the sides of my head. I have to rock a disconnected look. What solutions do I have? Will I always have to rock a disconnected look when wearing a hair system? Here’s a pic ibb.co/RvMpxsW I mean I like it, but there will come a day where that look fades kinda like a mullet lol, but make a come back, kinda like a mullet. Edit: I also pluck my hairline before installing, I do it all the way around so it doesn’t look weird if you know what I mean?

awesome...ive been using toppik to blend the sides how do you get it so good? i wear bangs because i cant use glue but even occassionally when i do the hairline never looks great-i was told because my hair is dark even with bleached knots its hard to blend into the skin
@PlantBaePapi

Michael Gordon I balayage the hair close to the root. Helps diffuse the hairline without it looks so harsh or dark. After using lightner, I tone the brown/blonde pieces to make it look natural. Right now I’m using Rogain on the sides of my head, hoping it can make the hairs thicker so I can grow out of a disconnected haircut. Best of luck!

Unfortunately last piece i got i forgot to order the knots bleached..i think its swiss lace..after 20 years i should know the difference between swiss and french lace all i know is thé piece can last a year with minimal hair loss so its durable...but Id love to confidently rock the messy Justin Bieber undercut look...lol not a Bieber fan but like his hair...I am getting sick of wearing thé messy semi-céasar look...i tried brushing every hair of thé piece forward using toppik to conceal thé base but it doesnt turn out great...not sure what balayage means in English..unless it means thé same in French...maybe you could help me ...even if I have To wear bangs Id still like to rock thé undercut look...i guess that would mean hair forward and a fringe look...i néed suggestions Id send you pics for advice if I could andyoure open to it

I'm completely new to this and honestly totally overwhelmed. I'm 30 and have pretty decent back and sides but the top of my head basically has the crown missing, the a strip of hair going through the middle and then the very rounded bangs (norwood 4/5) Would it be possible for me to achieve the last look in this video and if so what hair system would I be looking at (french,swiss, .03/.05 poly etc.)

Hey Jake, great content today and I totally agree 100%. The shaved sides looks ridiculous for a hair system. It makes it look like you have a mop on your head. It looks so much more natural where there’s a very slight fade on the side which gradually gets longer as you move upward. Like yours for example, it looks so natural because the sides are longer and it’s a natural fade. ....The shaved sides with the hard line makes me cringe inside. Also one very important thing to remember it a natural hairline is approximately the width of 4 fingers above the top of your eyebrows. The third guys hairline was way too low on his forehead. For your Friday thing you mentioned, I’d love to see a video about how to properly was your hair in the shower with a hair system on. Do you use cooler water, do you pull the shampoo/conditioner downward on the hair system part and wash regular on the bio har? To save money, do you use salon quality shampoo/conditioner on the hair system and just regular store brand on the bio so the expensive stuff lasts longer? Do you only shampoo twice a week but condition daily? I guess it’s also important to use leave in conditioner every day. Hehe, can’t lie, seeing you in the shower would just be an added bonus but at least I’m honest, you’re a terrific looking guy but in all seriousness, these are questions I’ve wondered about that aren’t addressed often. It’s always about original installation and reinstalls online it seems. Love your channel.I’m a big fan, although I feel like you’re my friend. 🙂

@joeosullivan6534

Firstly, thanks for all your videos, i watch a lot of them & appreciate your efforts. However, i think you need to be more positive towards undercuts. Remember, a lot of guys (i.e. with DUPA etc) have very thin sides and don't have this luxury. I notice your sides are starting to thin out too - you may have this problem soon yourself. Perhaps be more positive & do a video for styles which DO work with undercuts! 😊

I guess I never thought of that perspective. I appreciate your perspective, and thank you!
@joeosullivan6534

Not meant to be an attack on you - your system looks great. But this is a huge problem, i see so many guys with thin sides & full caps are a nightmare (enough challenges with partial ones). Maybe its an area of the market you can tap into. Also, when some of my friends with full heads of REAL hair get undercuts they totally look like hair systems. So, maybe some undercut styles don't quite look as unreal as you suggest? (Although i do agree with most of your comments). An example of a good style (although the colour match is a bit off) is this particular one which the salon guy cut in himself: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KpAjTyx4qtE.html Thanks again, Joe

If I'm being honest, they all look fake to me, though the last one at 13:17 is pretty good. That's the only one I probably wouldn't spot in person. But that is immediately after having it put in. I wonder how that would hold up over weeks. And the reasons for the other ones looking fake are: 1, as you said, the stupid side fade they all insist on doing. It totally makes the system look like a little sprouting hat just plopped down onto their heads. So stupid. Why not let the sides grow out a bit longer so the system blends in? Like you said, 100% draws the eye to the hairline, and extends the hairline around the entire head. The other reason they look fake to me, and I find this to be the case with almost all systems I've seen, and it makes me wonder why makers don't address it, but--those hairlines are so ridiculously straight. They look like they are drawn on with a ruler. It's a dead giveaway. I feel like systems could actually be pretty good if they weren't designed to look so perfect that they are entirely unrealistic.
@JakeKent
@JakeKent 3 года назад
thanks for the feedback. yes, that particular look is very hard to achieve, but its a very common look for men right now. its one of the hardest to pull of. and yes, the straight hairline generally is a dead giveaway. there are recessed hairlines available, but many men don't go for them. however, there is other technologies that are more expensive that i want to bring to market more readily. european hair (as opposed to indian), diffused hairlines, and organic irregular hair lines.

That’s why I also hate when all the stock hair systems in the market are 100% density. I wish there was an 80% density sold as stock instead of custom. It’s ridiculous to have to wait 2 to 3 months to get that low-density her system.

@michaelgolodini 4 года назад
@@user-vr2hy7tb4i 9 months? I don't know about that. Swiss lace can definitely last 6 months, but you gotta take outstanding care of that. Being extremely gentle and not shampooing the system too often.
@user-vr2hy7tb4i
@user-vr2hy7tb4i 4 года назад
@@michaelgolodini my thoughts exactly. And I'm not necessarily referring to shedding, what worries me the most is the discoloration of the unit. There's no chance anyone call pull off a 9 months wear out of a single unit without having it drastically discolored in comparison to your bio hair. That can't really look good.
@michaelgolodini
@michaelgolodini 4 года назад
@@user-vr2hy7tb4i Actually discoloration is fixable. Just dye the system more often. What cannot last for too long is a frontal hairline. The hair sheds there, but that's not the worst thing 'cause you can ventilate that. The lace itself gets worn out there, and there is no cure for that.

Hi Jake your own hair in this video isn’t looking it’s best. Not sure why you had to criticise other company’s work . I thought they all looked amazing. I think to get away with very short back and sides just depends on how good your hairdresser is. The guy in the first vid made the mistake of not having a comb back hair style that is why it didn’t look right. I have seen amazing short back sides with a hair system and they look super realistic. In this video you can see a big difference in your hair regarding the colour on the sides as the colours don’t match

This comment simply goes to show how people can be bitchy for no reason whatsoever at times. Our of this whole video, I'm honestly baffled how you ACTUALLY found something negative to cling onto? The guy literally apologized for speaking out what we all know is true, even though that's not something we should be apologizing for, especially if we have good intentions at heart. The fact is - hair systems are prone to looking fake if not cut or styled properly. If that's the case, how can pointing that out and giving tips on how to solve it be considered a bad thing? Isn't realism what we're all striving for in this area? I really think Jake was doing us all a favor here with this video, please don't spread hate for no reason.
