Exactly, and even there is a female protagonist that is rather young, still she can have innocent characteristics but she should have her own mind, thoughts and feelings, just like a person can be kind but still that person needs to have basic logic, but many books are just failing to do so
Katniss springs to mind. I know she's imperfectly written but damn she's far more interesting and human than these strange female characters in smut. An example of innocent character that's done right or interesting is early Sansa from Song of Ice and fire. She never lost her knid heart and innocent despite hardships, she got smarter at seeing who would use her and whose actually genuine and in turn played up her perceived naivety to fool enemies. Her character is flawed like a aristocrat girl would be, yet her feminine qualities are never bashed in the narrative which is so refreshing to read.
the darkest thing in this video is cindy holding her friends hostage and having them watch while she spends 1-2h making a video about some mediocre porn.
When you can't fuck him because of society's expectations, so you fuck his daughter while thinking of him. Hmmm, not a sentence I was planning on writing.
My dark romance would be a father doing everything in his power to keep his daughter safe from being kidnapped. Only to be shocked by the reality that *he* was the one the kidnapper wanted.
I just...really want a version of this where he seduces Peter, blackmails him, and ruins his relationship with his family and his reputation or something. Hook just so CLEARLY wants to sleep with Wendy's dad.
Every time you say “monster cock” my brain automatically corrects it to “monster croc” which makes much more sense for a character meant to be a Captain Hook reference.
I love how Cindy went from “I’m straight and fucking DESPISE men” to “my girlfriend made me read a tiktok dark romance book so of course I had to oblige ❤️”
@@MsAnubisia actually really like that they uses that actually. It’s a nice little reference to the author and a theory about Hook’s real name. J.M. Barrie said that Hook is not his real last name and that if people knows it “would set this country in a blaze”, and there’s a referring to hook as “James Matthew B” lol.
"Imagine being a grown ass man and having beef with an eleven year old" is hilarious because that pretty much is the original plot of Peter Pan but in reverse
I’m not asexual, but the sex written in this book half convinced me that I may be. Also Hook’s hate-obsession with Wendy’s dad is hilarious. Idk why but I expected him to moan his name when you were reading out the sex scenes. Would’ve laughed myself to hell’s gate.
I personally wouldve preferred a romance between Tinkerbell and Hook. Tink had more reason to want to go against Peter and Hook in the Disney movie actually convinced her to go against Peter. Idk, I just think a dark romance between a jealous fairy and a devious pirate wouldve been more kinky if that what the author was trying to go for.
Scenes like these from books made me actually realise that I am on the asexuality spectrum. And I was only further proven right as I got into a relationship for the first time. Idk, sometimes smit scenes are just the most disgusting sht ever
im asexual and oh my god every reading of the sexual scenes in this made me start cackling. i was genuinely laughing out loud,,, do you know how fucking funny something has to be for me to laugh out loud??? on god the best work of comedy in the 21st century
The way even if I was into dark romance I could not take any of this seriously like what the hell, this is so embarrassing, what are those dialogues ? 😂😭
badly written female characters in these modern books be like "I don't need no man I'm strong powerful valid etc" Also her when she meets a man: 😩😰😍😥😳😫🙇😻
feminism isn’t about not having a romantic partner and i really don’t like that portrayal in media :’) women can have and be both powerful and in love.
@@ashblu3 I think it's more about how these "strong" female became instantly submissive (not in the good way) to hot guys man handling them. It's perfectly fine to have romantic partner. We need female leads and their male love interets who feel like actual multilayered people in relationships or who don't express their attraction like WattPad self inserts.
i literally just have the image of captain hook in that jake and the neverland pirates artstyle pulled up while cindy is reading and i can confirm it enlightens this experience 1000x
I'm honestly embarrassed with how late I got to the realization that this was a retelling of the Peter Pan story. It wasn't until "Tina Bell" that I realized 😭
I may only be just past 6mins in, but the facts you are spitting about certain actions being considered sexy and suave by conventionally attractive men that are inherently seen as creepy if it was literally anyone else is why I love your channel so much. No hesitation with it either
If I wanted to write a kidnapping dark romance (not out of character for me) I'd write it so the victim was even more into it than the kidnapper. And the kidnapper was like. Wow you have some issues. We gotta work through this. I'm really worried about you.
Mine would be less of a romance and more like a horror comedy with his concept, with the mc wanting nothing to do with this man and just basically acting like a normal person
I adore that trope so much. Like, I wish to read a book about a villain couple that like wants to rule the world or something, they're evil, but not to each other, they adore each other to almost like point of obsession, put it's mutual, and they'll like, destroy everyone who like, cross the way of their beloved even slightly, or... Something along these lines
any “adult” retelling of peter pan immediately gets written off in my book. who reads the original and thinks “yeah this would be better if it had more sex”??? it’s such an innocent story with a beautiful message about growing up. just sad imo
@@circa134 Have you read the original story? It’s really not that dark. I mean, compared to some interpretations. Yeah it has some dark themes but they’re more sad than anything else
I actually liked the movie Hook with Robin Williams, it was adult in the sense that it explored maintaining childish fun while taking on the responsibilities of an adult. I know it wasnt well received but honestly one of my childhood favorites
I just feel like if I were to write a dark romance I would go for a concept more sexy than "creepy drug dealer at the club is kinda hot and wants to k1ll my dad" Also I rarely see "dark" smut or romance that walks the edge of scary and romantic/sexy successfully. It *can* be done but people almost always take it too far in *both* directions too fast. Where's the build-up??? Where's the tension???
YES, THANK YOU! I can't recount all the times I've read a dark romance rec with people going "oh, this is so hot", "omg the tension" just to have the heroine getting wet for the hero after the first meeting. I get trying to establish sexual tension but when it's dark romance it just feels so cheap to make everything so sexual at the first chapter. Delayed gratification and the feeling of being on the edge of my seat is personally why I take an interest in the genre but so many books fail to deliver 🧍♂
Recommendation time! “Beyond the Black Door” by AM Strickland is a villain romance. While there’s no sex (heroine and LI are both asexual), there’s still a mix of alluring and danger.
I've read fanfics with the "hurt/comfort" tag that were scarier than this vanilla shit, and that's not even talking about the Dead Dove tag. This book reads like it was trying to be "problematic" solely for the sake of being problematic, rather than because it actually wanted to tell a story with serious topics of concern.
@@justalostlocal "Dead Dove Do Not Eat" or just "Dead Dove" are tags used on fics on AO3 to indicate to the potential reader that they NEED to pay attention to all the other tags used, because those other tags' topics will be _written about,_ not just referenced or implied. The fic is what it says on the tin. Like, if you see the DDDNE tag alongside something like "necrophilia" or "cannibalism" or "rape/non-con", etc., then you'll know without a shadow of a doubt that these topics will be written about in scenes in graphic detail. The DDDNE tag is _only_ to be used on fics with problematic content that could trigger someone, not just for generic tags. It also relies on context, because you wouldn't use that tag for a fic for _Hannibal_ when all that's written is detailed cannibalism, because that's par for the course of the show, but you would absolutely use that tag if there's cannibalism detailed in a fic for _Paw Patrol._ The phrase comes from a scene in the show _Arrested Development,_ where one of the characters pulls a bag out of the fridge that says "Dead Dove Do Not Eat", the character looks inside, then looks back up to the camera and deadpans, "I don't know what I expected." The joke being that there was an actual dead dove inside the labeled bag.
As a Wendy literally named after the Peter Pan fairytale, this is not the representation i wanted but needed 😔🤘🏾i’m sick of pretending wendys arent dumb 🗣️
@@withcindy All hail Cindy's girlfriend for making her read this book so we got to see her rant about it in the most entertaining way for like fourty minutes straight (or gay?).
I haven’t watched this channel in aaagess so last time Cindy said anything about her sexuality she said she was likely straight. I’m so happy for her! ❤️
"how are you even talking when your windpipe got BUSTED" your delivery and editing are divine i choked on my food just like how hook wanted wendy to choke on his d
One of my favorite media ships is one that realistically would be exactly that. Granted, the guy saying that would've also been 11 at the time, but it's really funny to say "yeah he's been watching this guy on a monitor screen since they were both kids and has arrested him multiple times throughout the following years" without the context that his entire shtick is watching over every variant of himself in other universes and making sure they don't cause trouble. It just so happens to be that this other version of himself is an inherent troublemaker. Lmao
i've read fanfic with better dark romance than this lmao also the sex scenes sure are... written! if the point was to make them as uncomfortable as the violence it was certainly a success! but they're supposed to be sexy so. yikes. i can't imagine how this is appealing to people it's visceral in the worst way imo ALSO WHO THE HELL DESCRIBES GETTING AN ERECTION AS THE PENIS *LENGTHENING* IT'S NOT A PIECE OF TAFFY
Apparently there're penises that grows in length when erected. But like LENGHTHENING paints such a hilarious picture that I fail to imagine how ppl can take these sex scenes remotely seriously Lmao
@@justalostlocal YEAH, "lengthening" doesn't conjure the image of, like, grower not a shower or whatever, it feels like something you'd see in those male enhancement pill ads EXTEND YOUR MEAT
It never ceases to amaze me how many books would turn from "dark romance/fantasy" to "horror/psychological thriller" if you just replaced the attractive male lead with an ugly guy.
Can you all stop with this incel talking points? “If I was a 6’2 alpha male you would be attracted to this”. Let women enjoy their cringy wattpad books in peace.
@@mr.worldwide5566it's moreso a criticism of the idea that being attractive means that doing generally creepy things (or outright crimes) is actually okay and totally hot. In fiction it's not the biggest issue ever, fiction is fiction for a reason, but there are ideas like this that bleed into society, where "attractive" or rich men think that they can get away with being creeps because "well women like books like that, so they must like that irl too".
man, I enjoy dark fiction so I'm not gonna shit on anyone who likes dark romance but damn, a lot of them are so, so bad 💀 One thing I don't understand is how dry a lot of them are. Like, as a genre that supposed to explore the border between romance/eroticism and horror/thriller, I expect at least something atmospheric and maybe a bit sensual (?). Slow burn, that feeling between discomfort and excitement, something that leaves you breathless etc etc. I get more hot and bothered seeing a guy in a suit flashing an ankle than reading these books🏃
This is why I decided to write my own dark romance books because the ones out there don’t have the psychological thriller and eroticism needed to keep me hooked. It’s just freaking sex and literally no plot.
100%. The slow burn and interesting charater dynamic is completely missing from this so called "dark romance". Why do ppl think graphic description is automatically sexy or dark? This sh*t is so boring and immature to me. Sticking to AO3 for now...
"Don't tease me with a good time if you're just gonna end up being Wendy's little errand bitch boy." BASICALLY ALL OF BOOKTOK'S SUPPOSED DARK ROMANCE 😹😹😹 the reason why the girlies lapped it up so much is bc they want a bad boy façade with a simp baby girl personality and not really into the dark part 🙈🙈🙈
I…. What…. Just…. *how* was this book published?? Bruh 💀 Edit: Unsurprisingly, this book fails the Bechdel test. And the Mako Mori test. And the “can the author write sex scenes without triggering my gag reflex?” test. AND the “can the characters have a genuinely heartfelt, HEALTHY relationship?” test. …this book reads like an incel’s power fantasy about the third girl who rejected him in high school. Much respect to Cindy for sitting through it all.
I feel like going into a dark romance book looking "genuinely heartfelt, healthy relationship" is a bit misguided? It's like going into domestic thriller and looking for a supportive family with wholesome parents
@@losj3020 sure sure… ngl “dark romance” at this point is code for “dubiously consensual, toooootally not problematic relationship that the narrative tries to portray as ~sexy~” 🙄
@los j exactly. I enjoy dark romance because it's a safe way to look closely at things. I get it's triggering for some and they don't have to read it. But also they don't need to judge those that do. Ps. Which I don't feel Cindy does this. She even disclaimered that.
I think the thing I personally don’t like about Dark Romance it’s that usually the author focus just in physical attraction and sex and I can’t believe when the characters say they love each other because they don’t really know anything personally about each other. You have to at least know your partner’s interests and hobbies to have something deep going on. But I guess that how straight culture works.
Now, it may just have been how Cindy summarized the plot, but this reads less like a Peter Pan dark romance retelling and more like a horny bad boy story with bad puns sprinkled in
I wrote a really cheesy comment of thanks for putting out one of these again but then deleted it cause i feel like I'm too emotionally expressive for this comment section but I really am so insanely happy that I will be able to watch this video and then come back to rewatch it again when my autistic brain scratches me to
Given that the first parts of this story are about him wanting to defile her to take revenge on her father... he's talking about grape. There's a difference between dark romance and violent grossness - shouldn’t be excused just because he's conventionally attractive + the love interest.
@@chevvy427 I agree. Like you find that stuff on incel/creep blogs. But it definitely brings up the conversations around violent pornography too. Are we normalising the acts by normalising the kink in the media?
"Girl, what opinions? I don't remember the last time I ever read a single thought in your head that made sense to me." You didn't have to murder her right in front of all of our faces like that. 😂
PSA: If you are doing something that you can’t be loud for (like holding you daughter while she naps), do NOT watch this video. I laughed so hard that I woke my daughter up 😂
cindy, you seriously could be a comedian. i have never heard of this book in my life but literally you can talk about anything and make it hilarious and a great time 😅
I love that she traded a man who treated her like a porcelain doll keeping her mouth shut for a man who treats her like a porcelain doll keeping her mouth WIDE OPEN 😂
It has genuinely taken me 37:32 into the video to realize that this is a Peter Pan fanfiction. Oh my God. I didnt even put Peter and Wendy together, I totally forgot halfway through that the freak's name is Hook. Oh my God. Absolute lobotomite.
The amount of stomach cramping for Hook was downright concerning. Concerned? Stomach cramped. Turned on? Stomach cramped. Craving murder? Stomach clenches/cramps. Small sadness? Stomach cramps.
