I know this channel is light hearted and goofy but I have to get serious for a moment. Although I don't know you personally, I'm so genuinely proud of you and what you accomplished this year and so excited to see where your journey goes. I stumbled upon ur video by accident, I was watching something that ended and RU-vid played the next video and instantly I just clicked with your personality. N hearing some of your back story really resonated with me. I wasn't raised by my grandmother but my brother and I were raised by my grandmother's sister who I have called my mom since the age of two and she is my best friend, my everything but is currently in her last stages of dimentia and hearing your story of overcoming adversity is so inspiring and so special. You truly are such a light and I don't think it was an accident I found your channel. When I heard you also have a passion for science I knew were my YT person because physics has been everything to me from the time I was in middle school. Sorry for the lengthy comment but u work so hard to put out these videos, I felt it necessary to put some time in to explain how much happiness these videos have brought me. It's so rare to come across people with a similar back story and I'm rooting for you and will support you every step of the way. 🫶🏽🌸🤗

I'm so mad I'm just seeing this!!! thank you so much for taking the time to write this and opening up (if you're anything like me- and I suspect you are- I know it wasn't easy to be so vulnerable). I'm sorry to hear about your grandmas sister; I hope you are able to spend as much time with her as possible to create a lifetime of memories. If she's anything like my grandmother I know how hard it can be to see someone you love so much in pain or suffering but I am sure she is proud of you and the person you are becoming. I'm so honored to be a safe space for you during such a tough time. I always see your comments and they always come at a time where I feel unsure or feel the imposter syndrome and they always bring a little extra light to my day so THANK YOU!! It truly makes me so grateful to know I have someone like you rooting for me 💜 and just know I'm rooting for you too! It you ever want to talk you can always email me or message me on instagram! love you girlie 💜

Quick tip for reaching those bigger reading goals: graphic novels and manga are perfect to include in your reading! They don’t take as long as chapter books to finish, and they’re great to get into when you’re in a rut. I would say my top 5 this year are: Know My Name by Chanel Miller (required reading if you like memoirs), As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh, Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé, Frizzy by Claribel A. Ortega and the Witch Hat Atelier series (kind of cheating, but I couldn’t pick one from it lol).

Thank you thank you thank you for the Eleanor Oliphant recommendation- I read it bc of you and I found it not only enjoyable but also incredibly healing. I’m lucky to not have experienced trauma on the same level as Eleanor’s but her story was relatable nonetheless and it really unlocked something in me. It’s been a long time since I have felt so seen or represented by a character. My favorite part of this book is how the author makes no attempts to give her a “redeemable” quality, because she doesn’t need one. She doesn’t need to be fixed or changed in anyway to be lovable. Damn :,) this book had me crying at work, sobbing on the bus, laughing out loud and smiling so hard to myself. I had to put it down sometimes when it got too emotional for me but I knew it was doing something to heal me, similarly to how therapy can be painful but healing. I’m so glad I found this book through your channel, it has become an all time favorite and one I will no doubt pick up again and again. So major shoutout to you! 🙏😌

House on the Cerulean Sea was a favorite of mine in 2022 and Eleanor Oliphant I finished on Jan 1 this year. Loved it! I also read Seven Husbands. Silent Patient will be my next thriller I think. Did you know that there is a SEQUEL to The House in the Cerulean Sea coming out in September? I was lucky enough to read an excerpt of it (the first 4 chapters) and it's... even better?! If that's possible. Sure, it starts a little slow, but I don't mind that with a good plot. It's also from Arthur's point of view. Also, a few years ago when I read the book, I wrote to the author, and he wrote back a very, very nice letter. It's nice to know the author is a good person. Lastly, who was your favorite character? Mine was Chauncey. I love that he's a green blob that just wants to be a bellhop!

I am so glad you pointed out that there's no need for competitive reading ❤ I personally either read classics or thrillers and some of those are between 800-1000p and not un my native language, which means comparing myself to my colleague who reads mainly manga is ridiculous. As long as you enjoyed yourself, you had a successful reading year 🎉

Aww I love the ending so much 🥹 I really appreciate you Khalilah, your channel has really helped push me to find my love for reading again. There were a few books that left a lasting impression on me but I just got through reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, and I strongly recommend that one to you. It’s relatable, but also a heads up, a bit of a heavy read. I dont usually get emotional when i read but I did have tears when i read this 😅 I finished it almost 2 weeks ago and it’s still in the back of my mind. I plan on reading Educated once I’m in the mood for another heavy read lol

Eleanor Oliphant is such a great book! I read it two years ago and I'm so glad you love it :) These are my top five: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman Pachinko by Min Jin Lee Build Your House Around My Body by Violet Kupersmith When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi (highly recommended if you like autobiographies; this one made me weep) Thank you for all you do! The Martian was the book that changed my life this year. It instantly became one of my favorite books of all time for all of the reasons you listed for Hail Mary (which I’m reading soon) You definitely should read The Martian! You won’t regret it
@Toia.M
@Toia.M 8 месяцев назад
besides The Martian, my favorite book of all time is The Green Mile by Stephen King, which I read at 14 years old and simply changed the way I perceived books and the things literature and writing are capable of making you feel. I think it’s still me favorite book because it changed my relationship with reading and marked the beginning of “adulthood” for me, veering away from young adult romances for the first time My favs of this year have also been The Body by Stephen King (the movie Stand by Me was based off of it) and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest (it won’t be everybody’s choice but the characters and their relationships were so different from what I’m used to reading about that it stuck with me)
