Really love the honest review. I think you speak for many people when you say LRLL is one of the weaker arcs. Aokiji's back must hurt a lot after carrying this arc through the final lap. 😂
@@GavinReadsItAll The importance of the smaller, weaker arcs hasn't been revealed yet to the fullest even in the latest chapters. Some arcs are so out of place at first glance and almost never mentioned afterwards, but later in the story Oda reveal some clues regarding possible significance of particular parts of the story and odd details for manga on a bigger scale. He's weaving the plot so well many details remain either unnoticed by the majority of readers or so small that they make sense only you come across other pieces of the lore =)

There is no LRLL arc, W7 or Enies Lobby arc or Post Enies Lobby arc.. They are all 1 story arc.. everything start in LRLL and complete and coming to full circle in post Enies Lobby part of the arc ... Thinking that LRLL only as an arc or W7 or enies Lobby as an arc is just absurd because each of them are incomplete.. its like watching half of a movie... And this is one of the main problen of this community.. and it happen to much later arc/saga.. Fandom selfishly dividing and arc without care about whether it should be split or not, whether the plot or story is already complete or not. And then complain when it doesn't go their way.. LRLL just like the previous arc is very important. Skypiea is one of the most important arc in OP, not only for it relevency to the CORE plot of OP but also because it embodies what true OP(the story, not the treasure) as a story.. A lot of setup, slow pacing, tons of characters, plot and mysteries, tons of weird and trolling jokes, history, flow of time, inherited will, people dream and pursuing freedom... And in the end, all of that comes back full circle and connects to each other..
@@OxLloyd True, when I finished reading One Piece for the first time I was so confused by misleading feeling of "inconsistency" of the story that appeared after reading both Skypia and LRLL, but then I connected some dots after rereading and rewatching OP. Within last year I came across some theories that gave me more hints and material for my own theories. Later I've learned I wasn't the only one who came to the same or very similar conclusions. And now it's just blowing my mind how ridiculously important the LRLL might be. There are no proves, only hints, but maaaan XD
About Robin and her bounty, that was actually in the manga: In chapter 201 a random marine tells Tashigi that she has a 79 million bounty on her head since the age of 8 when she sank 6 marine warships. It's in the panel with her bounty poster in the background.
40:50 THAT was what blew my brains when I was reading this arc. Who is this guy that reduced ROBIN, not just your random character, but Nico Robin, the one who introduced herself as a spy and assassin, second in command to a Warlord, completely fine with betraying that Warlord, and fully ready to die back in Alabasta, into a quivering mess. She is fully badass, and just seeing Aokiji made her a scared blob. THAT FUCKING SCARED ME!
Something important from the Davy back fight no one but MelonTeee has mentioned is that the Zoro and Sanji vs the foxy pirates is the first time Zoro actively asks for help and it's the first time Zoro and Sanji are actively working together and off each other and it's what helps build them up as Luffys right and left hand!
I gotta say, I actually like the Long Ring Long Land arc. Foxy is such a dumb fun villain. Interesting lore on the Davey Back fight. I think of it like Pirates if the Caribbean in that there's a code for pirates and its not just killing and fighting. Imagine so many other random pirate crews in this kind of contest. I can see pirate crews that are friendly with each other having a 'fight' like this instead of a real fight. It's an easy excuse for some contests and a fun party.
"HUGE SPOILERY THEORY" I really hope that Luffy and Shanks do a Davy Back Fight someday. It would be a great call back to this arc, and as you said it, it would be a fun friendly competition between Luffy and Shanks, and it would be a way to "defeat" Shanks crew in a fun way.
Oda is a writer who absolutely understands tension. Stories can't keep going up and up and up, they will lose the audience. Having the action cut away to something less intense or taking a break for an arc like this, makes the peak moments feel earned. I see a lot of complaints that Oda kills the momentum of his fights by cutting away so much, but I feel that if he didn't do that then they would get tedious and not as anticipated as they are.
I honestly think that Oda gave us Long Ring Long Land as a kind of "rest" arc, something goofy and weird to relax a bit after having finished a saga as long as Skypeia The anime sins by adding several filler episodes but it also gave us some moments of Robin taking care of Chopper in a very maternal way, so that's really cute
This arc provides few things, awesome comedy, refresher arc and crew interactions. What’s surprising to me is, as you progress in the story you will know. Ppl complain most about lack of crew interactions but the 2 arcs that provide it in spades are considered the worst arcs
Everytime I can't believe that people consider the other arc (I assume you're referring to TB) one of the worst in the series. I won't go into detail ofc but my god I get so pissed.

Aokiji was the best part for sure but I loved the banter between Zoro And Sanji in there game. I can never get enough of those 2 always fighting with each other.
I love their banter because, as shown in his arc as well, they can set is aside and work together when needed. You can see moments that, despite their annoyance at times, they absolutely respect each other as well.
You and the Nani No Anime Manga Bros podcast are in like perfect sync for your arcs and release schedules. They bring on guests for each episode. It'd be cool if you could guest star on an episode for an arc discussion!

You read the subtitles at the same time as you're watching the animation, not instead of. It's just a question of getting into the habit, it's not hard (barring reading difficulties like dyslexia and similar of course).
I do understand the lackluster of this arc however in hindsight it does set a theme for the saga which you will see later on (and you will because the wrap up of this video is totally on point). And recently there’s a new theory involving this arc by Dak’s Sake which I encourage you to see once you’re caught up. And for the next arc, I really hope you’ll check out the official digital colored version of the manga since it looks stunning in color.
LRLL was definitely not my favorite arc, don't get me wrong. But I do have an appreciation for these arcs after watching Murphy's videos. She mentioned that she sometimes likes it when the crew can just be themselves, things don't need to be high stakes and we just get almost a slice of life time with them. That makes me enjoy these fillers more.
The conclusion you arrived at the end of the arc, about how each Strawhat is important and the crew couldn't go on even if only one of them left is so so true! And it is the message you should carry on into the next arc.
Long Ring Long Land is one of the weakest arcs but it was there to establish the interaction of the crew at the beginning and the end. The emotional state Ussop and Robin is set in place before moving into water 7.
LRLL is one of those arcs that you appreciate more in hindsight, and it's not representative of the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc at all, haha. Between Skypeia's complicated themes, and the dark places Water 7/Enies Lobby go, it's like a nice little fun break between all the serious arcs so you don't get overwhelmed or worn down by all the heavy topics one after the other.
I feel this arc gets better when you look back at it 100, 200 chapters from now. When you look back and see it as a nice arc to hang out with the crew together.
I was honestly worried about posting this because it's the first time I've been pretty negative about One Piece and I avoid all other reviews in case of spoilers so I had NO IDEA how people felt about this arc, I'm relieved

OP readers learned to never underestimate this man's storytelling skills XD I think there shouldn't be any spoilers, if someone would wanted to explain some possible connections with the rest of the story here, maybe only minor once that person may skip without revealing too much, but I personally think it's better to dive into theories only after catching up with the story. edit: *minor ones

I legitimately was like, "I can't wait for the Water 7 arc" then people said LLRL was gonna be next... I forgot this arc existed 🤣the funny thing is, I know why Oda wrote it but it was kinda off a weaker arc.
Same, every time a reactor finishes Skypia it's "oh hell yes Water 7 next!!" but then Long Ring Long Land pops up and I'm like... "ah right I forgot about you" xD

Its definetly not the most focused arc. I really like the role it plays in the series, being more querky and focusing a lot on interactions between the characters and gags.
This is so funny to me hearing your thoughts and reading all these comments because I actually really like this arc compared to the previous one. I really didnt like Skypiea. I had to take a 5 month break from from reading One Piece after because I was so scared I didn't like One Piece anymore. But I was instantly back into it with Long Ring Long Land.
Water seven is the peak of one piece, until it peaks again O.O also please dont watch it in english :D what are you doing :D luffy sounds so ridiculous :D like a 12yo on aderall
I still dont know why this is even an ark ,only the end is good ,also Afro Luffy is a good thing in this "ark".Good thing the next saga/ark will deliver. Edit,i forgot how bad the dub is,cant recomend the dub at all.
Imo In terms of anime, English dub does not have that powerful voice acting like japanese. Might be convenient for you to watch it in English but do check out Japanese ones too
long ring long land is probably, at least for me, the worst arc in one piece xD i remember a LOT of the manga, the long dog and the horse of this arc too and of course aokiji in the end, but i ALWAYS forget about foxy^^ and G8... i dont really get how it has so many fans, its not terrible, but i dont like it.
use can see the episodes of one pice aniem on bbc i player from episode 1-206 and I was watching it to see if I would ever buy the mangas and I am watching episode 25 and I play want to buy the books but it will plb have to be in the future seen as I may had spoiled it for myself, 😥

I have to disagree here with you! I am sorry but this arc, Long Ring Long Land arc is the BEST arc in the whole series. It easily scores a 9.5/10. The only reason it is 9.5 and not whole 10 is because we had whole 2 or 3 chapters with some pussy named Aokiji and Foxy wasn't there. Like WTF? I AM SORRY BUT I HAVE TO SPOIL YOU THE ENDING (Well not really, so continue reading) Foxy WILL be the NEXT PIRATE KING. I'm sorry, but I said it. Everyone in the One Piece community knows it, everyone agrees so you just have to convert and admit, that the best character ever written is Foxy. That's it.

Skypiea take that cake.. at least in English fandom as far as what i've seen since I started reading OP almost 23 years ago. OP at the high and the end of Arabasta were breaking tons of best selling records in Japan. It led to Volume 27(2nd volume of skypiea) to break the previous 1st printing of manga in Japan history that previously held by Manga Slam Dunk with 2.67 million copies.. And it started going down hill after that... Each and every volumes of Skypiea, LRLL, W7 and Enies Lobby were printed and sold less and less until almost only 1+ million copies. It did start to rise again at the end of Enies Lobby and the rest was history.. For 2 decades Skypeia was considered as filler by many and I saw a lot of "fans" suggesting to a new reader/watchers to skip Skypiea arc. Back then, some of them even like and promoting G8 more than Skypiea even though G8 is a filler and its terrible at best. Strawhat acting out of character jist because plot or jokes can happen.. Each of them suddenly becoming incompetent and forgoting their skill set just because.... At least in Davy Back fight, Luffy, zoro, sanji and co were distracted due to their own personality and weaknesses... Everything are consistant with their character.. Its okay to dislike Davy Back Fight.. OP and Eiichiro Oda first and foremost have a weird sense of humor .. But just like any OP "arc" it had a lot of character moments and more importantly Strawhat Crews interactions with each other.. How they deal with each other despite their very own personal weakness and demons... Strawhats and Luffy, they didn't really care about their friend's questionable past or each other's flaws.. they are not looking for perfect human beings to be their crews.. They will try to adjust and compliment each other. Thats what this "arc"/Davy Nack Fight very fun for me..
Agreed about LRLL. But I'm sad you're watching the english dub. Luffy's voice actor is so one dimensional, and especially the Condoriano bit sounds much better delivered in Japanese. That's probably why most of the jokes missed. Condoriano is the main reason we wanted you to watch this arc.
I am just starting the video but I have to say we all hate the Foxy filler arc so do not worry but you have to give a shot to the original audio when watchingthe anime, watch it with subs, the cast is AWESOME and you just can't feel the same emotions they portray in japanese with the dub version They even dubbed the openings I cant believe it (face palm) Hope you give it a chance, you'll not regret it The foxy arc is not good but at least it was a good way to relax a little and be ready for what was coming later A lot of us don't like this arc but can you believe there's people who dislike Skypea arc, some even decided to skip it and in recent chapters they got to know it was SO IMPORTANT and had to come back and read it lol

Totally agree with you. Didn't like the arc eather but I think the introduction of Admiral Aokiji is important and the foreshadowing for Robin's whole story is interesting as well. So I'm exited for the next arc. 🤍✖️

At the time of writing, while there have been implications, there is a very likely possibility that LRLL has yet to pay off in the manga (not talking about Aokiji).
I don't think I know a single person that loves long ring long land, usually the best I hear is its "ok". 5/10 is around where I'd give it also. Now time for some 10/10 material incoming:)
I rather hated the Davy Back fight when I first read through it. The tension and very idea of gambling friends away stressed me out through what should have been a silly, fun time. But reading it through every time after that, I had an easier time with it. Probably because i no longer had to worry about what the results would be and was able to enjoy it for what it was, lol.
Water 7 is based on Venice in Italy and I remember back in 2014was it when i visit it and fb was a judge deal with check ins, my first post was Finally made it to Water 7, where are the Straw Hats? 😂
Lrll stressed me out so much when I first watched. I tried to enjoy it again when I rewatched the series, but I just couldn't. I do like foxy he gives team rocket vibes. And i I wasn't aware that the dubbed anime had dubbed song intros also.
I watched the Anime first and I did watch this arch but after and on rewatchs I skip this because I actually thought that Foxy was a lame filler arc from the stuido.
Please prepare your mind and heart for the upcoming rollercoaster of emotions that will attack you when you get to the water seven and ernies lobby arc...you will be crushed by lots of different types of emotions...
For some Nakamas, LRLL casts doubt on One Piece's quality, but that's the exciting part because it takes you by surprise. Starting with Water Seven, the intensity is unprecedented. Pay attention and be prepared. There's a reason why One Piece has such a huge fan base. Patience is one of the key to enjoying this story.✌️
Well the Foxy story is prob one of the worst imho (joint with syrup village for me). Good they show the power of the admirals and how there are people out there far and above the straw hats - before this it was only Hawkeye who put some humility into the team. However the rest of Water 7 arc is top teir gold. Brace yourself for a ride
The anime adaptation of this arc is much worse. Trust me. They double the rounds, meaning they introduce three new games to the story. Also, extra filler arcs until the Aokiji scene finally comes about.
I think in general the consensus on first read of LRLL arc is that it's pretty disappointing overall. It's a bit rougher in the Anime too because they pad it out so for a lot of people who watched it first it gets remembered even worse. But hey don't worry, this is very easily the low point of the water 7 saga, I've got no doubt you're gonna love the rest of it.
I like to think of this arc as sort of a calm before the storm. One last goofy lighthearted arc before shit gets heavy. In that sense I like this arc but as an overall normal one piece arc it is a bit too goofy and not that great
Yeah, agreed. The worst OP arc probably. It's so random that anime-only fans often mistakes it for a filler arc. But the next two arcs will more than compensate you, I am almost sure of it. Absolute Peak Piece.

it's totally okay to not love an arc or parts of the story. LRLL isn't my favorite either. G-8 and LRLL for me is just fun and funny, sort of like a breather after the epicness and intenseness of Skypiea. (with Aokiji bringing in the seriousness in the end of course). next is the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs, which made One Piece my most favorite manga series ever. Also my most favorite arcs in One Piece :) buckle up, you're in for an epic and emotional ride!
Yea LRLL might not be the most interesting but if we look at it for what it is i do think it was needed for future set up and a breather from like the 80+ chapters that was skypiea and transitioning into another saga that is W7 saga.
I never really appreciated this arc even looking back now, for me it was so terrible that I thought it was just filler. I almost completely deleted everything about it from my mind until the Aokiji part. It was actually terrible and to this day I never understood how there could be a cannon "filler" arc in one piece. Even in hindsight, there were no real stakes, the entire foxy part did not affect the main story at all and it was so unnecessarily long. It also does not make any sense whatsoever, people just get a crewmate from betting and that new crewmate is ok with it? Being a crewmate is no slavery, nor would people want someone that clearly does not want to be with them. For me the cannon still is that, the crew landed on a weird island where everything is long and then Aokiji rode with his bicycle and nothing happened in between.
This is definitely by far & away the worst One Piece arc, even though the Aokiji part is awesome. But ironically, after this, it's two One Piece arcs back to back, which are considered by many, the best arcs in One Piece. Easy S tier 10/10 arcs. Although they are two arcs, Oda & most of the fandom view it as a single arc since it's a single story/plot thread. You'll se why. It's best to look at W7 & Enies Lobby as a single arc & story.
Considering that we just had arabaster and skypiea which were huge this arc is perfectly placed… Also the structure of this saga wouldn’t work without this arc… It’s dumd to disregard this arc and say it’s the worst
You're not alone; this is one of the least popular arcs. And in the anime it's dragged out horrendously. They do three rounds of Davy Back fight instead of just one. It's awful. Back in Alabasta, Tashigi's marines mention that Robin destroyed five Navy battleships when she was 8; that might be what you're thinking of.
Long Ring Long Land is a fun arc to go back to once you're caught up but in a first read it feels like a filler (except Aokiji's introduction). Also sorry but sub >> dub. The Japanese version will make you enjoy the anime 100% better and the dub doesn't really do it justice :/ (especially in Enies Lobby I recommend watching it first in sub cuz Japanese voice actors are on another level 🔥).
