Please remember this good feeling when you feel bad, and remember you will feel good things again. I know it's easy to forget so let's try our best together!
The comments talking shit or just being assholes are either bots or have nothing better to do, good on you for not letting it get you down. I'll be awaiting the next video to see what you what you make.
Thank you for sticking with youtube I hope you can enjoy content creation again, just make sure to value your mental health and happiness first an foremost
Its very refreshing to see 1 quality creator I LOVE genuinely compliment another that's on the other end of the RU-vid spectrum, thank you TierZoo and thank you Garbaj both for being good people and channels
Yo! I never could have guessed that TierZoo also watches Garbaj. That's wild to me that a youtuber I watch also watches one of my favorite youtube channels.
Unexpected, but very cool appearance of TierZoo. Agree with it, I do enjoy game development so I am glad to hear Garbaj will not quit and is doing what he enjoys.
I love the transparency you have about mental health in this video. I always enjoyed your genuineness and well thought out perspectives in your videos, and that's on full display here. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you, regardless of what they're about.
Mad respect to you for building up the courage to talk about this. I wish you all the best and good luck with whatever you decide to go with.. I'm looking forward to see it.
Under your username are these words: "460K subscribers". All of these are people who like your content. A lot of people like your content. Good on you for finding out what *you* want to create. It's always good to see someone creating content they enjoy and or enthusiastic about making. Pewdiepie realized he didn't want to make over the top character videos and instead does what he likes doing. Guess what? People liked that even more, probably because it felt genuine. Here's to the new Garbaj, may the fates be in your favor.
That part about pewdiepie is a thing people often forget: many think that you have to be x, and do y, to be popular and succesful. But then you're not original and possibly not genuine and it won't be as interesting. But most importantly, you won't enjoy it as much yourself. Just be yourself, the weirder the better.
I'm not even a game dev but I love to watch your videos because you explain things in such a clear way and it's always very interesting. I'm very very glad you're still here. This channel really is great.
I was really looking forward to your FPS game and got a little disappointed when you said you were dropping the project. But, recently I tried getting into game development and tried making a little game for a project, and now I understand your problems. It's fun to do what you love , but when it feels like a chore at one point, you should ask yourself whether you want to continue or not. And that's a tough decision you have to make, but it's ultimately for the good. Garbaj, do what you like. Create content that you want to create. That'll be more fun for us too. We are with you man.
It's absolute madness, I'm trying to make a 2D fantasy RPG game for mobile and PC with summary, you are a soul brought by a being of endless madness to live in the magical fantasy world, you start as a child while adventuring in this world, you grow up, every time you die you start from scratch and are able to buy soul talents that make you increasingly stronger, the game has many plots and endings, and has great number of enemies and different ways of interacting with the story, the art of the game is very based in comics the difficulty level you can decide in the world scenario, the harder it is, the more the world seems like hell As you play more, the game starts to glitch and becomes more corrupted because this game is so complex and difficult, I couldn't do it completely, I'm only working on the first chapter 1, each chapter has its own world with its own system, the first one will take hundreds of hours to finish I still want to do a draft of the work and improve my talking and art, before starting a dev channel of it
@@darkpain2452 I recommend starting VERY small. If you get comfortable programming small games you will have a much easier time with larger projects. Scope-creep is the reason most indie games fail and I don't recommend making your dream game as your first project since you will inevitably be disappointed.
From what I can tell from watching the suffering of many artists, "it's fun until it becomes hard", and "it becomes fun again once it all becomes easy again".
I'm glad you're sticking with it! I've found your content really inspiring! Navigating the social parts of the internet is tricky and frankly a little dangerous. Unfortunately, you will upset people. 100%. As your channel grows you will upset LOTS of people. BUUT - and this is so important - there will always be more people who appreciate you and your creations and your work then people who don't. You are a net gain. You make the world a better place, and many peoples lives are better in small but tangible ways because you create. Of course caring for your own needs should always come first, and if that means walking away from content creation or taking a break that is totally ok. Thanks for creating and thanks for sharing this struggle!
Thank you for not quitting. You are a HUGE reason i ever even got back into game dev. im finally on my way to finishing 2 projects, and I've never been able to finish a game before. Can't wait to see your future content! also if you ever want to make something different, im sure most of us will be here to support ya! ♥
No one is here for one specific type of video , structured in a certain way containing one type of content , we are here for you and whatever videos you want to post .
@@ako_0256 man, imagine psychiatrist said "well, kys then" as a JOKE? garbaj needs our support in doing what HE ACTUALLY WANTS, not what you hope for. just do not hope Booty blasting V2 bcuz you could be disappointed, and community disappointment is a big thing to our guy. am i overprotective to a random youtuber who i enjoy watching, or is it a reasonable reaction?
Dude I don't know you. We grew up in drastically different environments. It's impossible for me nor any other person in the world to completely understand your struggle. But I promise, i feel you. I feel your pain. I feel your disappointment. I feel your anxiety. I feel your struggle to find your place in the world. And I promise, you are not alone. There are people who went through their own crisies but at least they... We understand pain. And anxiety. And hopelessness. It is very hard to express it. I'm very sorry. But returning, giving it another shot is very brave. We all fall. But not everyone can stand back up again. You did. You deserve to be proud of you. And however it may sound, I'm proud of you.
thanks for opening up about this, it's sometimes not easy putting yourself first and those feelings are valid but it seems like you're on the right track. Whatever you decide to do/make, we'll support you.
I'm so glad you decided not to give up. One of my best friends and I used watch your dev logs at work and it'd be a shame to never have that chance again.
it has to be said that this kind of content is really cool, it’s unique and enjoyable, you won’t find it anywhere else, the algorithm might not like it, but i personally am a fan of your content creation style, keep at it
I found you through this video, and subbed through this video. Theres something super enjoyable about listening to you, and I cant wait to binge this channel whilst you work on awesome new videos!
Do what YOU enjoy! Thats the most important part in being a content creator in my eyes, enjoying and loving what you make, the effort and care shows in the video for sure! Glad to be apart of this awesome channel and community, equally as glad that it’s gonna be around longer 💜
When I first discovered your channel I thought 'look at this guy, I think he'll fill a niche in my feed' and I swear I almost never missed one of your videos I'm a sales guy so let me throw some selling points for you 1. You have a very pleasing voice - No homo 2. You are very clear and concise which compared to 45min videos out there that say nothing, this is worth gold 3. You make game dev seem interesting even if it's such a hard topic 4. For some reason I and over 460 thousand people feel you as a genuine guy, working a 9-5 but sharing cool facts, being ambitious and I respect that I could definitely go on but let me just tell you I did look up your channel a couple times when I didn't see you upload any videos. You have a huge base, potential, brand, niche, voice, skill, knowledge, and most of all, swag. Yeah I'm that old, bite me Keep it up Garbaj, rooting the hell out of you here.
Personally, I just love hearing your thoughts on games, game design, design, and etc. I think you have some really good perspectives, and you always get me to think about things in a different way, from a different perspective, or with a deeper understanding than I had before. I'm entirely here for whatever it is you want to speak passionately about - the only disappointment I would feel is from videos that are soulless, cynically motivated, or that you clearly don't enjoy making. There are so many people in the world, that for any thought you can invent that a person might have, odds are good someone does; if you let that hold you back, then it would be impossible to ever create anything. And, it would do a disservice to those of us who love what you do! Make things for yourself and/or the people who want it, and don't get caught up trying to make things for the people that don't want them in the first place. Even if *only* you or literally *only* one other person liked what you made, then you've brought something new into the world that brings you and/or that other person joy - and no amount of other people hating it "undoes" that joy. Much love, Garbaj 💜
Jesus christ, this is the first time the algorithm actually gave me what I actually wanted to hear for this weekend. As an aspiring clipper for other streamers, thank you for saying this.
Dude I love the stuff you make. You could upload a video dissecting literally anything and I'd be there to watch. The way you break things down and just critically think is a nice break, I want you to make whatever you want, I am here for the ride. You gotta enjoy what you do, let your own curiosity carry you to new places and make whatever you find interesting.
Hey Garbaj, don't fall into the trap man. Every video that you made attracts the same type of person/what the person wants to watch. If you make some new content you always have people who are going to be angry/not happy. Just do you, and people will follow (old ones will leave and new ones will come) :) Happy developing!
I’m so happy I got to see this. You’ve grown so much from your rut and seeing you climb out of it is so inspiring. You’ve been a teacher in such a huge chunk of my artistic journey and seeing you push through means the world to me and many others 💙✨
The human mind, to think that you are hated for something, when you've done nothing to warrant being hated, its hard to deal with even though we are none the wiser.
I know that feeling. It feels like there's no escape. Like there's nothing you can do to be anything other than a waste of space. It's intense, and it is real, but it is a pure fabrication. You have done great things, and you can still do more. Push through it, and don't let yourself forget the awesome person you are and all the great things you are capable of.
Thanks for being open about this. I know it's a lot more difficult to talk honestly about these feelings than it is to just disappear from an online space. I look forward to seeing you do what makes you happy.
It makes me so happy to see a lot of my favorite content creators finally realizing they can make what they want and saying I’m doing what makes me happy
Something I've seen/heard about quite often is a scenario in which a content creator changes their content in order to appease a vocal minority, resulting in them both losing themselves and their audience, and they eventually find out that the very minority that caused them to shift weren't even as invested in their content as their original fans. It's good to see that you're sticking true to yourself, Garbaj, keep up the amazing work!
to hell with optimising ur content for the algorithm, i love unique content thats made from passion rather than desire for clout, keep doing u bro, its what were here for
Drive-by GAMMA protip: You can go prone by pressing the walk button while crouched to get through truck windows and other tight spaces. I recommend binding it like this: : crouch, : walk, : sprint. Hope you're having fun and don't get murdered in the red forest too often. :)
Keep up the great content please, your channel at least for me was always a delight to visit and click on, because I learned something random and totally unexpected yet still informative and fun in every video I saw from you! Hopefully your feeling better after changing some things up 👍
actually anything you make, I love to watch. Not trying to get parasocial, but your videos feel like hearing a passionate friend chat about cool stuff or interesting stuff. Love that you didn't quit!
Dude, I just like hearing how you explain stuff, your sincerity and genuineness, whatever you make I'm happy to see! I subbed for YOU, not a specific kind of content (tho I did really love when you made example vids like you did with walk animations and terrain, I also love all the other stuff you do). Also, dark thoughts eating at you? Yeah, dealt with that all my life, as a very high-operating autistic it can get rough, so I'm right there with you! The important choice to make is the one you just made: do what you love, not what you think others will value you for. I recently just made that decision about a year back, and life is way better for me for it. Another friend of mine (also ASD funnily enough) also made that choice in the last month, and already he's seeing an improvement... Do what you love, and good people will love you and what you do for it. The only persons happiness that truly matters here is YOURS, and I'm stoked to support you in whatever that looks like moving forward. Chin up friend! You made the best choice you EVER could this day! 🍻
Hey Garbaj, your videos are great and I always respect your fresh takes on game design. You've inspired me to keep going with my game dev journey, and yours is a channel I keep coming back to. Thanks for sticking around!
BRAVO SIR - The world will reward your sticking to your passion. The biggest strength you have is your individuality and what YOU have to bring to the table, so just do you and trust the process. So glad to have to back Garbaj. And thank you for your vulnerability and role-modelling that speaking about these types of "mental demons" is usually one of the best ways to deal with them. Big love
Don't quit, you must realize this channel wont go anywhere, take as many breaks as you want to. Ive had my doubts as well feeling worthless but no one hates you, the algorithm will play tricks on your brain but your fans care. Keep making the stuff you want to make on your own time and take many breaks. I love your content btw, I was making my own graphics engine the other day and feeling really down on myself for only making a cube, but then I saw your video and it made me feel a lot better knowing how hard it is. Game dev is hard and so is being a RU-vidr. Keep making fun stuff.
Honestly, whenever a content creator says they're going to do videos "for myself" rather than for an algorithm or what they think the audience might want, it makes me much eager to watch their content. You can't always tell if someone is *not* enjoying the videos or content they're making, but it always shines through when they thoroughly love and enjoy what they do, and that's what the platform needs more of, that's what keeps us coming back and that's what makes me (personally) subscribe.
Cheers to you, for coming to this realization and seeing the light that was always there. You are stronger than you know and in your sharing your struggles you are also helping others that have been consumed by the crippling self doubt. I'm looking forward to all the exciting stuff you want to share with us.
It's weird. I've always subscribed to channels where I enjoy the person making the content, cause their content just becomes more enjoyable when they love doing it themselves
your personal discoveries about game design taught me so much and I'm not even a game dev. I think that share your personal things and not a generic scripted videos should be the central thing in this platform and that's exactly what you do. Please do not quit.
People watch your content because YOU made it. If they wasnt here for what you created, what you design and work on, they would watch something else. You have the following that you have because of the content you want to create. Do what you love and and we will love it with you. Best of luck to you bud, we cant wait to see what you create next!
You are the most wholesome and unhatable person I’ve ever seen on this platform, wish you the best of luck dealing with any kind of mental problems you may encounter.
I actually really like your development videos. I am not a programmer but I really appreciate the ways of finding solutions for problems and the art of creating a computer game! Also, I might add, that your channel is the only one I know of which covers the secrets of first person shooter game mechanics. That's also one of the main reasons I stuck around with you, not only to see how your game progresses during development, but also how you apply certain techniques to build this functioning architecture that will be a finished product in the end. You're doing great!
garbaj you are a big motivator for me to keep working on my own game. i really enjoy your content and your voice is very chill. please don't stop making content especially when you enjoy it.
I subscribed in the first place BECAUSE it felt like the videos you made were something you made for yourself, so please keep making the things that matter to you and the people will come. Also, it was a bit of a missed opportunity to put gameplay from Truck Cemetery instead of Garbage for the pun 😉
I'm constantly using your videos as references when I try new stuff. I've learned a lot from you. You give more than what you take. I hope you are happy with what you choose to make in the future
your videos were what made me want to start game development in the first place! game dev didn't go anywhere, but now i'm actually confident and i'm looking for other areas in computer science because i realized THAT was what i liked. im glad you're not quitting, and i'd happily watch any upload i see from you no matter what the content is.
When I see you post I have no expectations for the format or content of your videos. It’s felt like you’ve been posting whatever you want since the start and I’ve been enjoying it! Keep posting whatever you want, I’ll still be loving the content!
I ADORE your videos. You have changed the way I look at game design, and you give solid opinions related to the same topic. I recently began working on my own game and sculpting concepts better using your tips, and I thank you for that!
I’m not a frequent viewer, but every time I check in, I enjoy your content. Even this video is a nice reminder that there’s someone human out there. I deal with thoughts and feelings like you mentioned a lot. It’s tough. I’m glad you didn’t quit.
In this stream of organized content, I am always happy to see the Random thought, no artificial prolonging, straight to the point videos you bring to the table
I’m so happy to hear that you’re moving on to things you hope you’ll truly enjoy doing, and I can’t wait to see it. I for one have been in a depressive episode for a few months. As a full-time student and student teacher, I essentially work two full-time jobs and two part-time jobs all at once. I was exhausted and ready to throw in the towel. I thought maybe the career path wasn’t for me, even though I knew I loved it or something about it deep down. But something last week clicked. Some switch flipped. And all of a sudden, I *feel* way more successful at what I’m doing, and I also feel way more happy. I hope you have a similar experience. Keep it up!
Don’t quit man. I found your channel when it had barely any subs and I have to say I followed most of your godot guides. You have helped me in more ways than you know. It’s crazy how similar our interests are in the game dev space and I would hate to see this channel die
It probably took a lot to self reflect and then it took more to make this video and make yourself very vulnerable. Respect to that. 💪 As Matthewmatosis once said: "No matter in which direction you go, you'll lose some people along the way. Trying to avoid that will lead to stagnation, which eventually has the same result. [...] If there is no hope of holding on to everyone, there is no point in worrying about it. [Some creators] seem willing to alienate a portion of the audience in pursuit of something better. [...] This isn't done out of malice - some people just prefer to challenge themselves. That desire for improvement is part of what draws us to games in the first place!"
Hey dude, I really enjoyed your daily uploads, they were part of a ritual for me. You always found something interesting to talk about and shared it in a clear and concise way, that's precious. Please keep them coming at the rhythm that works for you! I can hear in your voice in this video the emotion, and congrats on putting it on the internet like that, that is not easy, especially when going through tough times. Keep taking care of yourself and of your passion.
Your content has always been motivating and enlightening. It's made me think about game dev differently and have more appreicatiation for the games I play. And I am always excited to see when you put out new videos. Your videos are really meaningful. I hope you find stability, health, and happiness in the videos you want to make.
I've made the biggest strides in my mental health by realizing that experience+patience is a superpower: Do I feel awful right now, like my life and the whole world are terrible and won't get better? Yup. And it really sucks that I'm feeling that way. But the thing is that I've felt like that before, and then things got better again, so I just hang out, keep showing up to my own life each day in whatever way I can, and it does in fact get better again. Plus, each time things get bad, I recognize it a little sooner, and I may have one or two more tricks up my sleeve for minimizing the suffering. If you can cultivate it, hope is the most OP thing out there. Keep it up, man - love your stuff.
So glad you’re not quitting. I love a lot of your content, because your videos are really interesting and insightful, but I also like your content because of you and just how genuine and chill you are. So thanks for making for content I’ll stay tuned and let my friends know!
I really like your videos. Even if they aren't useful for me directly as guides or instructions, they often give food for my brain to think about something I haven't thought about previously. Thanks for that and keep doing whatever you think is good.
"no one liked the content I was making" quite the opposite is true. Anytime I see a new Garbaj video I'm watching immediately. I always enjoy the content. It's informative, relaxing, and stimulating. Always follow your intuition and passion, the rest will fall in place. Cheers!
