I came here from shorts! I saw one of the split skirt videos and immediately had the need to make like 10 of them, so I went to the longer videos. I love having creative videos on the TV while im working on projects
One-time viewer here. This popped up in my recommends, and because I've wanted to start a RU-vid channel for a few years, I clicked. I like to try lots of things and didn't think I could pick one thing to make my channel about, and stay consistent with. I know you probably didn't intend this video to be this way, but I found this encouraging to not worry about optimizing and just do it for the fun of it. Thanks.
i've been a Rachel Maksy subscriber for a few years now, i subscribed to your channel from a youtube recommendation and i did mostly for your personality and editing style, i dont sew, i'm not renovating my house, i'm not interested in stitching, but i like watching people do cool stuff and try new things and talk about their life too, so that's why i'm here.
I clicked because of the clickbait-y title card, but watched your whole video. If you do “Stitching and Stories,” I would absolutely watch that! I liked hearing what you had to say and your experience with RU-vid
You may never see this comment. But I have used your playlists to relieve my anxiety for many years. I watch the slower embroidery ones with no talking because I struggle with voices. I get lost watching you stitch it totally resets my mind. So that's why I had to say thank you. Talking videos do sound great. I hate shorts. But I am grateful for the stitching quiet videos. This is the first time watching you talk, and I'm glad I did. You are amazing, and please continue to do what you want to. I'd be interested to see other crafts too.
I don’t typically comment on videos on RU-vid because I’m sewing, but I love the commentary/dialogue. I fully support Stitching and stories as a podcast.
RU-vid randomly suggested this to me today and I have never watched you before but I'd encourage you to keep chatting and people like me will probably find you too and keep listening. I don't personally care much about the stitching but as someone who also hasn't talked much I appreciate your viewpoints and would watch you work on whatever is of interest to you while telling RU-vid viewers what's on your mind.
My favorite videos of yours are watching you figure things out. Like "I don't know how to do sleeves, so I'm going to show you ALL THE SLEEVES I SEWED" I love it. I don't know if that counts as a tutorial, I like seeing people learn how to do things.
Agreed! I'm the same way. You might also enjoy a channel I recently stumbled upon called Catherine Sews. She knows a lot more about sewing than I do, but I've been binge watching them because I appreciate that she pushes herself to try new techniques and explains her results really well. :)
Woman you kill me with how relatable you are. It’s like hearing me talking about stuff I have only briefly been able to admit to myself. And you see me and roast me and let me love myself through loving you. Thank you.
If you like her you may want to check out the author Lori notaro. My favorite book that she wrote is called me talk pretty someday. Second favorite is I love you and other atrocious lies lol
I'm a content creator who just happened to watch this because the algorithm sent me here, and I really appreciate both how you openly discuss the challenges of RU-vid as a platform and the internal work that's required for putting out things in the first place. It's a little crazy how doing the things that make us happy also comes with significant risks to mental health when the internet gets involved. To any core audience members reading this: getting positive feedback, especially in the form of comments, is what keeps content creators sane. I know many probably think their input doesn't weigh much, but it really does.
I feel called out. Here I am, the girlie that goes back and binges all the content when I meet a new creator I like to craft with, lol. Thanks for the video!
Not only am I a core audience member that came from a viral video. Who then binged ALL of the content and has notifications set for your channel. YOU ALSO INSPIRED ME TO START SEWING! I now do the thing because of you! And you are not the first sewing/ maker content I am a core audience member of. But you are the ONLY person who actually helped build the courage to do the thing!
Saaaaame. I'm starting a sloper class next week (and have been doing a lot of sewing machine based mending) because of the technical info from The Closet Historian, and the duck around and make it work well enough energy of Charlie. It absolutely has helped me go okay, I don't need step by step perfect instructions for exactly the thing I want to make, I can just... have a pretty good idea, and then just... try things...
definitely part of your core audience here 🙋♀️ while i don’t sew at all,( im a crocheter) i absolutely love your personality and no matter what you do i’m always entertained and engaged, easily one of my favorite youtubers!
This is the first video I've seen of you, courtesy of the algorithm. I'm not interested in sewing, but I am into intelligent conversation. I wrote this comment at about five minutes in, subscribed at twelve, and was really glad I watched to the end. Thanks, algorithm! Also: yt premium is worth it if you don't like ads.
One time viewer. I enjoyed your video, yes I watched to the end. Sometimes I think to myself “I could start a RU-vid channel”. The experience you describe would be a disaster for my rejection sensitivity/people pleasing. I think you have a lot of courage and dedication. Good luck to you and I hope you get to tell your stories.
I'm here for the "do just about anything" vibe! I am also a "piddler" who does all sorts of weird things when I get caught up in them. I sew, crochet (some), restore old sewing machines, and collect orchids. I enjoy seeing what other people do in their daily lives.
I don’t even know how I stumbled on this video because I have zero interest in sewing. I stayed because I am exactly the same as you in that I am a monologuer and storyteller who is both praised and shamed for it. I loved this and subscribed. Keep doing you. Have you ever tried standup? Was a game changer for me, turns out I have a knack for it and it’s also fun!!
I feel like you're speaking directly to me. My channel had been ALL over the place for many years and no matter what I post I feel like someone is bound to be disappointed lol.
I started watching for the split skirts, but I love your style storytelling and I immediately subscribed. I love listening to your inner monologue, no matter which project you are working on.
I very recently was introduced to your channel, probably by a split skirt video but don't believe it was a short. I believe I immediately subscribed. I enjoy your style and personality but probably won't be core, possibly not even steady (I'm basically a selective cross-stitch (Flosstube) viewer and will never do the other things you show). But it was fun to watch you work on your bargello. Stitching without a pattern as you go along?? - I'm impressed!!
Second that reply. Just find you really engaging and do watch all your video regardless of project. I'm here for the joy in creativity and hearing your tangents , stories, inner monologue, etc. helps with my creative process. I find it very freeing.
I wish I was there with her in THIS video... so I could take that drink cup away from her at 21:30!! My heart & my head are freaking TF OUT! I'm screaming at my screen: STOP, RIGHT THERE! _NO,_ DON'T DO _THAT!_ WAIT, YOU SHOULD... DON'T HOLD THAT THERE, NOT LIKE _THAT!_ KEEP IT *_AWAY!_* 🤣🤣
Thanks so much for this. I learned so much and you made me look at things more clearly. I have a sewing tutorial channel, and I've never been comfortable making Shorts. Your experience with the Invisible Audience explains a lot!
Came here for the sewing and stayed for the varied content and personality. My favorite makers and channels do a variety of things. I love those who make a variety of things and try new stuff because that is who I am. Keep doing you. I'll be here!
I'm loving the Simon Whistler-esque cutaway to a secondary camera for tangents. It's genuinely one of my favorite video tropes on RU-vid. It's a little detail that adds a lot of dynamic energy to an otherwise chill video.
@Rosycandyhaven If I missed something I apologize, but was there anything positive or productive you were wanting or meant to share regaurding the video you willingly chose to consumed for free?
Also - you are allowed to take up space AND to speak AND to be heard!!!! So relatable when you shared your internal monologue from your teen years. Wow. Thanks for sharing yourself out into the world.
Invisible Audience here! There is hardly anyone that I follow regularly. I'm more of a sampler, unless I'm working on a specific project. I'm audhd, so I hyperfixate but what I'm focused on changes all the time. Plus my energy levels vary so much, so even if I'm hyperfixating on something, I may stop just because I run out of energy for it that week/month/year. I love this behind the scenes take, thank you! It's important for us to understand how our attention (our value in social media) is being used by the platform and how that impact the creators we're enjoying.
"Although you've probably left this video by now." I literally lolled. Your alternate camera angle asides can be lovely and delightful. Especially when they involved your dog.
As a fellow crafter, I love to have the more "monologue-y" videos playing on headphones as I'm working on projects. I would love a "Stitching and Stories" series of some kind. I've also learned a lot from your videos.
Yesss I love listening to stuff like these that I don't have to watch or don't take my eyes away from drawing 💕 I just found this vid randomly. I'll subscribe and really hope I'll see more of these!
As a growing RU-vidr, this is so encouraging to know other RU-vidrs in the sewing space feel the same feelings… that I’m feeling! 😂 thanks for posting this! This is your first video I’ve seen and I IMMEDIATELY subscribed! Can’t wait to binge your videos! 💖
I rarely comment on youtube videos (anxiety!), but I am one of those that found your channel while doomscrolling shorts, and became a regular viewer of your long form content. It came at the perfect time because I'd been talking to a friend about pattern concepts for wrap pants, and your inclusion of pockets was a great inspiration! Still haven't made them yet (time and burnout), but ideas are fermenting wayy more nicely than before I saw your videos. I love how you talk about the conceptualization of your projects, it's much more interesting and helpful to me than a step by step tutorial. Thank you for your work!! I look forward to *whatever* you decide to do in the future.
Shannon Makes is trying to transition to house renovations as well, because her life is transitioning. Because people's life changes over time. And if the algorithm insists that people shouldn't change over time, well, i prefer real people, not caricatures of unchanging brand. ❤
Shes another I subscribe to & am totally looking forward to the house updates. I would love to Patreon all the makers I follow, but limited income make that seem like a pay-to-win video game for me (something I never get to do) locking extra stuff behind a paywall kinda sucks. But not upsetting the algorithm is a thing too. I'm down for all the extra YT channels, though. Some of my favorite creators have multiples.
I also subscribe to her, and I’m looking forward to her renovation videos, since another renovation channel I watch is ending their years-long project abruptly after this week. 😢
Jenna Phipps as well. She bought a massive fixer upper and was doing mostly crocheting content and some sewing but the new house demo/reno stuff is really interesting. 👌🏽 I'm part of her core audience.
as a serial subscriber, this honestly made me rethink whose subscribe buttons i hit, when, and why. i always figured hitting the subscribe button was a win-win, but it isn't necessarily if i'm not actually _watching_ those creators even semi-regularly. i didn't even consider how, for creators, having x number of subs who only saw one of your videos is actually not beneficial. im definitely going to be more cognizant about actually WATCHING the creators i sub to, and not subbing if i dont expect to watch their regular content.
I feel you! I usually subscribe to the channel because I want RU-vid to recommend me more of those videos, but that doesn't always happen. So then when RU-vid isn't actively recommending those videos, it can be hard to remember you are subscribed to a particular creator.
Unless someone is intentionally trying to drag a channel I say carry on doing what you want don’t take responsibility for other people’s paths or choices.
"Have you developed coping mechanisms for your coping mechanisms...?" 💯RELATE!! Would love to hear more about introverts' creativity challenges, breaking through childhood & societal beliefs to free up your creativity process, etc!!!
I come specifically because you’re a talker! When I’m doing things at work or in my house-my brain just needs a friendly voice talking to me constantly and you perfectly fill that for me- and you inspire me to actually move forward with my crafting/sewing goals. 😊
Can't believe I watched the whole thing 😊 I subscribe to those channels I want to see again - I have my feed set up to only see my faves. I'm an old woman, mother to sons and grandma to grandsons, so not a lot of female companionship in RL. Up until about 10 years ago, I dabbled in most crafts out there, but age, eyes and arthritis have limited me mostly to reading about crafting. I first found you when you had the video about how to find cheap fabric! I really enjoyed your video, your sweet quirky happy style, and that is why I came back. Found out you were also smart and fearless, and you make me smile 😊 So I will continue to watch, bargellos, split skirts, painting clouds or whatever, because you make me smile!
Okay, here is where I confess that I was Core for a while and then life happened--I basically ended up ghosting half a dozen of my favorite youtubers and you've been one of them. I've missed you. First came to you because of the sewing--those skirts!! I was so intrigued by those skirts!!--but I would actually be interested in watching anything you post, including Stitching and Stories, depending on my energy and time levels. Your style is witty and engaging and you talk the perfect amount about anything you choose to share; that's what made me a Core viewer when I could be. Can't promise I'll be more than an occasional viewer for the next while, but I stayed subscribed so that I can always find you again and I'll be back to watch when I can.
"Who else would I talk about? I only know me" is so relatable. Like I'm not gonna tell someone else's stories. That's their business. Do they just want your videos to be silent? I love the idea of telling stories while working on an art or craft project.
1.) Pretty embroidery! 2.) I love the idea of a Stitching and Stories channel! 3.) I'm probably somewhere between core and steady. I don't always watch every video as they come out. But I do watch your videos for you, because I find you wonderfully entertaining.
One-time viewer, longtime RU-vidr. This is the best breakdown of RU-vid I’ve ever heard. Even though I knew all of it in my heart, I’m an idealist. I push against the reality of RU-vid because I don’t want it to be this way (and also, I remember when it was different). I’ve always described subscriber count as honorary. For that reason I use my RU-vid playbutton as a coaster.
I watch RU-vid for entertainment. Long form content is my main focus, and I love making and story type videos. They are an underrated genre. They give a glimpse into the mind or process of the maker. Those glimpses are what keep me returning to their channel for all their other videos. I also enjoy the fact that I can keep making while I'm watching them. I watched this entire video while cleaning and filling my fountain pens.
I am a senior and have been watching you for over a year. You remind me of my granddaughter that I am just crazy about. So just keep on being you! I am a quilter and used to make clothing, not so much anymore, but I love watching you sew and embroider and talk. Keep it up.
Steady/core viewer here, saw your long-form side-split skirt videos and stayed for the rest! Something I immensely appreciate is your subtitles, it really makes it easier to follow along those fun tangents and I love how you subtitle everything, not just the spoken words. It really means a lot to see the extra notes and effort
I now have to check this out. She is one of the few media or channels I don't have to subtitle because I can hear her clearly, which is saying a lot as a person that requires hearing aids. It makes me love her even more to know she goes through the effort of adding subtitles and not relying on the auto-generated ones.
I'm here because of the STUNNING blue and whit split skirt short. I'll be honest, I didn't look into your longer vids from that though. I liked it and I think liking it meant your other shorts got presented to me and I started to recognize you and THEN checked out your longer vids and subscribed. The "niche down to blow up" thing is something someone like Rachel Maksy appears to have worked hard to get herself out of. Her early stuff was primarily costume based but now she does all sorts of home reno stuff, and making her "little guys", with the occasional costume thing thrown in. Amanda Golka (Swell Entertainment) has several vids where she discusses how she strongly disagrees with niching down.
I found you through shorts (which I don't usually watch) and I was so dang happy you were a creator who did long form. I'm not quite core, don't have the spare time for watching videos most of the time, but I'll be here and looking out for your new stuff. Especially discussion, I can put that on while I work! Thank you for all the cool things you do.
I love your humor, quick wit, tangents, designs, everything that you do! Please don't leave RU-vid. You BRIGHTEN my day, evertday. I'll be sad sad if you leave.😢. You are an amazing person who encourages others to go out of their comfort zone like me. I used to make cards. I bought new products and want to get back into it but am hesitant on doing it, because I don't like failing at it. I have designs in my head, I just can't achieve it on the card. Please stay! I love your work and all that you. You show that, you're a real person who has real life struggles and who makes mistakes, who doesn't like patterns and goes with the ideas in your head. Sincerely, Huge Fan ~ Amanda Nelson from MN
Psst... from one scared crafter (looking at a blank canvas without a prompt and company??? NOPE.) to another - get yourself some scrap, embrace Charlie's "wing it!" style, and go for it! No matter what, your result WILL be better than mine! 😂❤
So excited to see a video of you on an off day! I am a Core Subscriber. Found a video, then binged ALL your videos and now I wait impatiently every Friday for a new one. You DO NOT talk too much. It's one of your most enduring qualities (of which there are many) and I would assume that the majority of your CORE loves both your personality and your talking. I love hearing about everything! And I love the diversity - baking, decorating, moving, organizing, house tours, fabric hauls, embroidery, and yes Sewing. I love every single dang one of them. I've noticed many creators starting "side" channels for content that doesn't match the brand, but that they want to do and that's fine. I believe a good majority of your CORE will automatically follow you there. I like the Podcast idea but with the corresponding channel as I would prefer to "see" you. And please, please, please don't give a F**k about the nasty comments. I heard it said you know you've made it when you finally get "hate". Take it as a positive and that your channel is growing. Some people have no self-control and it only reflects on them - not you! WE LOVE YOU! Big Hugs
I joined your for embroidery tutorials, fell in love with your moss rug and thrived for the skirt experiments. My engagement with your channel has fluctuated but I keep coming back for your charm, vibrancy, and the inspiration. Through watching you I have overcome my fear of drafting, subdued my need to "follow the pattern" exactly, and even inspired me to try knit fabrics when I sew. I knit, crochet, sew, spin, embroider, bake, and quilt, and your videos make me feel that all of that is worthwhile and amazing and FUN again. So Thank you.
Came for the sewing project I saw, stayed for your personality. I love your monologues and spoken out loud “thinking/plotting “ 😂 I don’t feel in the minority anymore, thanks to content creators like yourself and Rachel Maksy. So a great big THANK YOU 🥰
100% agree with every word of this ❤😊 Just wanted to add that I am so glad you were able to shed the guise of a mysterious, quiet person. The subtext of why you felt you like needed to be silent is rough. Your conversational monologues are a complete delight and comfort, thank you for that 😊
Yup, this is me! I have enjoyed every video I've watched, clear to the very end. There are some I haven't watched because (1) not enough time for everything! And (2) well, that's really it 😄 I don't have time to sit and watch, 99% off my YT watching happens in the kitchen while I'm washing dishes or preparing food. I tend to read during my sitting down-not working- moments. And (3) I haven't gone back to watch your stitchery videos also because I just can't do hand sewing type projects any longer. But I know I would like them anyway! You are a delightful creator and I love sharing your videos.
This is also me. I’m one of the steadies, but think of myself as one of the cores. I found you through YT-recommendations in your early days, one of the embroidery tutorials. I was a bit stumped at your first talking video, wondering if it was the same channel (I think I saw two channels with the same name and logo for a while), but it was the talking and tangents and your personality that made me subscribe. Once I subscribed I binged your whole backlog. I’m bad at consistency in anything, so I jump between bingeing different channels, which means I haven’t watched the last four or five of your videos yet, but I will eventually. I love to hear about your childhood and upbringing and self analysis! Please keep doing you!

I’m the same. Mostly because as a creative woman loving to make things (mostly sewing-related but not all the time) I like having someone sharing something about making while I’m working on a project ❤
I know you made this video for non-youtube creators, but this was actually super good to hear as a creator because it valudated things I've been thinking about lately that no other creators seem to be talking about. The whole "do i stay in a very specific niche or can i branch out a bit" question has been on my mind for months. Thabk you for talking about this
I'm pretty sure I found you through shorts, or maybe an Instagram reel. Your channel and your unique content has helped me gain confidence in sewing. I've made a split side pinafore and a dress (no pattern, just your recommendations) and they've been some of my favorite projects I've done! Literally listening to this while faking my way through a cross body bag pattern of my own design! 🙃
I realize I'm late to the party, but shorts brought me here. I saw your split skirts and was intrigued. Popped over her and binged a bunch of your long form content while trying to remember the contents of my fabric stash (currently in storage) and making lots of plans for future projects. As a fellow maker (who starts projects with no pattern or almost never follows a pattern exactly all the way through (even the first time)), I love watching you troubleshoot and listening to your commentary. I relate so much to a surprising amount of what you say. You're amazing!
Thank you for explaining how RU-vid works. I don’t know when or how I found you, but I’ve been mostly an invisible subscriber for some time. Invisible not because I don’t enjoy all the variety of your content, but because I don’t watch RU-vid very often. I sew. I quilt. I love dogs. We are nearly done renovating our 35+ yr old home. I’m a beginner knitter. I’ve been looking at hand embroidery stuff. Basically, a lot of what you do resonates with me. And now you call yourself an introvert who likes to monologue! I describe myself as a socially averse introvert. I have lots to say but hate saying it in public. Keep doing what you want to do. I’ll try to tune in more often. ❤
Sweetheart, I love your videos! I am a 69 year old “crafts nut” (my children’s title for me) and enjoy the variety of the content you put up. I have been sewing, crocheting, embroidering, etc. since I was 8, and my father taught me to use tools from the time I could walk starting with a hammer. Leather crafting, beading, etc. came from being on the tail-end of the hippie generation. I love listening to you talk as you always make me smile, so you keep right on talking girl! I’ll listen. Don’t listen to the haters, many of us love ❤ you😊
I’m brand new, just came up in my recommended feed. I watched the entire video. And I have severe ADHD, so that is a feet. I totally relate to the monologuing. I just chalked it up to being related to my neurospiciness. Will totally check out all your other stuff, because you are soooooo good at this. The editing is perfection but the “writing” is superb. Chef’s kiss, madame. 😘 new sub
I'm one of the steady audience who found you from your split side skirt short, and I'm so pleased the algorithm showed me your content. As someone who loves to make a variety of things, I really appreciate the eclectic content you provide.
Hi! I’ve never posted before because my inner voice tells me that creators don’t have time to read and answer all of the comments. But I wanted to tell you that I came here because my sister shared your reversed split side skirt with the lacing on the outside of the front. I fell down the rabbit hole and have enjoyed all of your videos and how relatable you are! I wanted to tell you that I’ve been encouraged and inspired by your videos and I will watch any future videos and follow any projects you create. I am a monologuing introvert as well and this video in particular made me feel seen and provided me with a cool new way to describe my own experiences. So thanks for that! And thanks for sharing your puppy with us! ❤
Oh God this was relatable. The tutorial thing really hit home. I honestly like teaching my craft - in person. I have never been one to gatekeep knowledge or tools. But I got so, so annoyed when any speedpaint short video I posted was met with comments such as "Where is the tutorial?", "You did not explain how you did it, pointless video", etc. Like they were entitled to the knowledge, or like any person who posts about a craft has to do it to teach it for free. Cooking channels get it tenfold, with people asking for recepies even if their channel openly promotes a restaurant or service. But mostly, I relate to wanting to explore new crafts, and IG and short videos won't even allow you to variate on the theme, nevermind technique or craft. It is so, so restrictive.
I have been sewing for about 50 years. I stumbled upon your channel. I enjoy your enthusiasm and curiosity, and attitude. I learned from your video on presser feet. Enjoyed your video on all your makes.
Came for the embroidery, stayed in the core group for the sewing, shenanigans, and wit. I got inspiration for my own split skirt and continue my own McCalls knit dress saga. I like your variety of projects and hope you keep doing fun crafts for a long time.
I am a first time watcher of your channel (but I did subscribe). I am an older maker (in the old days we were crafters), and I love love love watching people make things by hand. My husband is a wood worker so we are a household of makers (I sew, knit, crochet, embroider, all things fiber-ish). I am getting ready to retire and am trying to set up my life to encompass my crafts and the other things that I need to do. I like rennovation (We are in the middle of a major kitchen reno) and baking and cooking. I like your style of talking and making at the same time. You are intelligent and easy to listen to. Keep the stories coming! The best part of meeting new folks is listening to their stories.
First time viewer here, and I would love a stitching and stories series! I like to listen to people talk while I do my own stitching (crochet). It feels like sitting with a friend chatting while we craft. Also, as someone who also considered the "quiet mysterious" path but could never quite pull it off because I'm too damn earnest (and impulsive with my speech lol), I really liked hearing about your experience with that! I love hearing women and femmes share about their experiences of self-censorship or trying to shove themselves into an archetype; it helps me feel more self-compassion for my own experiences like that.
First , ❤ the colors on embroidery piece. I saw a video on a circle skirt, and I got hooked on your channel . I love to create and I have so many ideas in my mind, that is why I talk to my self a lot 😂😂. I ❤ to watch your videos while I’m working on my sewing or others project. You are very creative, don’t get discouraged by negative feedback, just be who you are. 🥰
Oof, I never really thought about it that way. I tend to subscribe to people if I like them and/or their content, but I still don't watch many regularly simply because I do not have the time. So that way I support them by subscribing, even if I can't watch their videos very often. I understand your point though, and you're right, if mostly the amount of views is, what's important (on a long term and reliable level I mean) then what use are all of your followers? Hm. Short-form content really did us all dirty, huh? Thanks for the video! I may not comment very often but I do enjoy your videos a lot :) I hope you have a nice day!
My 76 yr old mom and I never miss a video- no matter what you make. We are incredibly entertained by you, and even had "Huzzah!" t-shirts made😊 Love from Maine, -Deb
This is my 4th video of yours. 1 long form (spreadsheet of fabric cost, size, by the yard vs bed sheet packs) and 2 shorts of yours were under the long form I was watching, so I watched both shorts and then this one (all watched this morning). I loved the shorts. It was like a commercial of what you can do (two different dresses.. I assumed you made) and it was on the topic (fabric, sewing, who knows what else). I like "maker" content. I especially love when someone mixes different crafts that complement each other. I enjoy when a short is a clip from a long form and mentioned in the short verbally/written on the screen and linked in the short on the screen or the description or a top pinned comment. Other YTrs I watch do that and then I watch the long form or add it to my list to watch later when I have time so I don't have to remember which video to try to find.
I came from a recommendation, stayed for your personality. Watching makers have the courage to just make stuff and have fun brings me joy. I'm always scared that I'll screw it up, and seeing others make mistakes and brush it off helps me try myself.
Steady/core here - what I appreciate about you is the thoughtful, funny and intelligent reflections you have about what you are doing. I like the projects, but it's what you have to say about it that I truly like. So I really appreciated the house hunt, the hauls, the project planning and reviews. Keep doing what you like - its appealing to at least most of us!
A major reason why I subscribed is because I like your talking. I love to subscribe to youtubers that I can put on and listen to while I do stuff. I probably will never sew up any kind of project, but I did find you because of the split skirt video. Seeing you try so many different kinds of crafts has helped push me into trying new craft things.
I'm part of your invisible audience that pops up once in a while because every so often I remember I like sewing (but never have time to do it). I like your takes and humor which is why I subbed when I first found you (I think on a post about your adjustable wrap skirt), plus I have an interest in content creation (I'm a gamedev though) so this vid sparked my interest and I'm glad it did. I hope you find more of your core people, and I will continue to pop in now and then
I'm always impressed with how you can just talk to the camera all your thoughts. Recoding myself makes me think about talking and suddenly I can't think about anything else and all my bottled up thoughts die.
I’m core audience. I came for the sewing and stayed for all the other stuff and for you. That green wool rug you made is one of my favourite things you’ve ever done. 💚
I love the idea of a second channel for your stitching and stories!! Just watched a few of your videos while doing my own hand sewing (yes I also watched the hand sewn dress and want to now make my own as I adore the detail in how you attached the bodice and skirt) and it really does feel like I get to sit down and sew with a friend!! Thank you for being you and sharing a part of your thoughts today! :)
Every so often an old video of mine that had less than a thousand views for years suddenly gets picked up by the algorithm and starts raking in that many views a minute. I only notice because my comment feed suddenly gets dominated by "this sucks" "total crap" "why is RU-vid recommending this" ect. And I just say "nope. Not dealing with this today" and private the video. So yeah...
I'm a lurker, so I don't usually comment, but I felt this was a good time to crawl out for a sec. I recently got into sewing and saw a few of your videos. I watched a few long-form content here and there, but the shorts for the split-side skirt is what turned me into a core audience member. That and following the house-hunting adventure. So glad you are settled! I love watching your videos while I sew to have a companion of sorts. But I trully enjoy your content for the inspiration it gives me to create. Like you said, there are videos for tutorials and instructional content, and I do watch those too, but I come back to watch your channel because it's relatable and inspires my own creativity (or just allows me to vicariously enjoy a garment that I am too scared to make lol). So, thank you! And I look forward to watching more of the content you choose to share with us.
Love how you matched the colours of your cross-stitch/embroidery and your top. I watch anything sewing-related and I love your personality on RU-vid - informational, entertaining, real.
What you said about being a chatty person, but learning not to be chatty so you didn't make waves... Same here. I love talking, but never do because, like you, I never wanted to "inflict" myself on others. We do a lot to cope with bad situations, and unlearning those coping methods is difficult. And yes, I hate how the RU-vid algorithms pigeonhole everyone. People like more than one thing. And I've tried other video sharing platforms but they have their own issues, biggest of which is that people aren't encouraged to post there when they aren't paid there. I miss old youtube, but those days are gone. (Also, I randomly came across your content for sewing and you pop up in my algorithms now and then because I like sewing. I'll follow you now to try and see more of your content.)
I love the conversational style. You and this video just kept me company while I did my dishes and cleaned my kitchen. It's like having a friend over ❤ I appreciate you and thank you for putting yourself out there.
I found you last year when I picked up embroidery after years of not doing it. You walked me through a stitch I had not known how to do. I subscribed immediately. I binged all I could during recovery from a major surgery. Your sewing journey has made me want to get my sewing machine out and give it a try again.
As someone who is sitting here, playing this video while stitching a border on a crocheted pouch, keep doing you. A lot of times I just want to listen and there aren't a lot of podcasts out there that can hold my attention so RU-vid has become a huge part of my crafting time.
Love this! I’ve been struggling with similar feelings about tutorials and wanting to share my own projects. It’s inspiring to hear you talk about your mental process. Thanks for sharing things that made you nervous! It made you super relatable.
I found you because of Stephanie Canada, and decided I to watch a few of your videos, then I subscribed. I'd love to see more "story" videos, and know of several channels who have made a separate channel for just such things. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I love that you share your process, mistakes and all, and how so much of sewing/crafting/making is figuring out how to deal with mistakes and working with what you have available. Making is messy, and I really appreciate and enjoy your content because you don't try to make it look like a clean straight line from idea to end product. ❤❤❤
Steady audience here 🎉 It’s nice to have someone talking while crafting or looking at amazing creations taking form ❤ But also since we are humans and also my interest in things fluctuates, that means one day I’m dancing, the next I’m crocheting, the next I’m learning a new language. So it’s hard to keep up when one interest takes over and it doesn’t overlap with the creator I love. So I binge😅
I stumbled across your channel as part of my exploration of all things sewing and love your content. I love how you show the journey of whatever project you’re tackling including all randomness, chaos, success, problem solving and puppy…the realness of making a thing, any thing. Thank you ❤
I got here from a "just got back from a fabric ends shopping spree, let's see what I got" video. The next suggested was your Sashiko video and I was hooked. Hubby got me a Sashiko kit for Christmas. Thank you for introducing me to it! I'm a spinner/weaver/quilter, but now I'm also going to be trying Bargello. Please keep talking. I work in a high stress, high cognitive-load space and it's really nice to sit down with a 'friend' and 'chat' in a crafter space, but not have any requirement from me to contribute while I'm so spent. ... It's soul soothing. I'm in my happy place with someone so very fun. Thank you ❤️
I think the stitching and stories concept being integrated with collabs is SUCH a great idea. Storytelling is so inherent to crafting. I’m sure a lot of the crafting personalities on here including yourself have so many great stories to tell. But people tend to not because that just wouldn’t fit neatly into their videos! I enjoy watching your videos as I craft because it inspires me to keep going even if i’m not an expert! Hearing crafters tell stories complements the crafting companion vibe so well and since it’s not being done I would greatly enjoy a channel dedicated to that! It’s like the crafting circle of friends we don’t have anymore because we’re all online now >.
I'm a newbie at yt and I'm very thankful for this video. You're one of the few sewist that I subscribe to. I love your content. I'm thankful for the tips because I need all the help I can get to make my content better.
I found your channel through an Instagram reel (split skirts) and eventually made my way to RU-vid to see the full video of the variations you made. I definitely watch for crafting company and sewing inspiration but also appreciate your “off-topic” videos (just saw the Paris/France travel vlogs and they were amazing)! Also, I LOVE the chatty/talking bits and absolutely love the stories (and crafts) you share!!
