In Japan, rental services for a japanese girlfriend or japanese boyfriend have been around, but I recently noticed that you could rent a Japanese grandma for the the day and it got me interested.
Apparently, you can ask her to act like she’s your grandma and do stuff together, help out with house chores, attend family events, or simply ask for life advice, basically anything within reason. So in this video, I share my experience with you renting a Japanese grandmother for a day and the first thing I asked her to do was make me a traditional Japanese bento which later we’ll be taking to the park later for hanami to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms.

This is such a nice service. Sadly, not everyone would have access to such a nice and loving grandmother. In my case, my grandmother died when I was very young so I don't really remember my interactions with her. I only remember her from photos. If I were in Japan right now, I would probably rent her service just to experience having a Japanese grandmother - someone who lived a different culture and era from me. On a macro perspective, this would be a great way for young people of Japan to personally know of grandma figure, who they normally may not have access to due to their circumstances. Thank you so much for sharing this day with us Paolo

someone mentioned it in another comment, but this is a great idea for the elderly in japan. mainly because of the high percentages of lonely deaths in elders, this is a great way to keep them active and socialized. i hope this becomes more popular and a lot more people and other cultures can get involved with this idea.

Aw, so beautiful and happy. Reminds me so much of watching my grandma cook while telling stories of people I had never seen and places I had never been. I wish I had been old enough to understand her unique experiences and recipes to record it all. Decades after her passing I have still been trying to recreate the flavors and experiences she gave me to pass on to my children. There have been successes and failures along the way, yet always with a laugh as I try to impart the pieces of her I cherished the most to them. A person they never got to meet who was so involved in my daily life as a child. I was influenced by her generosity and knowledge in ways I did not realize until becoming a parent myself.

Loved this. What an amazing idea. I love how she cooks for you… who doesn’t love Grandma’s cooking. I agree with most comments. What a regal lady.

Wow! The bento looks beautiful and the food even more beautiful! Oh, and your Grandma is the most beautiful! Must be all that healthy home-made food!

In Taiwanese its Obasan so super closer and can see the transliteration. I miss my grandmother everyday and would love a service like this on any day. I would do anything to have my grandmother here. I first rolled my eyes when I saw the subject but the first 5 minutes was so heartwarming. I stand corrected and really enjoyed all of it! Thanks so much Paolo!

I lost my grandmother in 2011. I teared up. She taught me how to cook and had lots of wisdom to share with me. I am so grateful I had her.
