i always just bought random stacks of CD's at thrift stores for replacements and it worked well enough and trying to pop that disc holder layer was always stressful to not bend to far. multiple disc cases were hard to get replacements since there are not many music CDs i seen that had them. very well informative

Very cool video, inspired me to re-case a lot of my old childhood games. Seeing my old copy of Crash Bash in a not-cracked, not-held closed by scotch tape case really just makes me smile. Thanks for the case recommendation, they're nearly identical to the original cases.
Those protective sleeves are so worth it. Also if you put the jewel case into the sleeve “backwards” the top and bottom flaps will then be on the rear side.
I see a lot of people using those protectors that way and always find it so weird lol. It looks way better having the flaps in the back of game, but to each their own I guess
Whoa, neat. I have some very shattered PS1 game cases next to me right now, I doubt they're salvageable at this point, but I gotta take a look to see what you did! Unfortunately, missing manuals are the biggest issue for me. I'm sure I could acquire replacements somehow, but I'm more interested in preserving what I still have. Around the advent of DVDs my parents thought it would be a good idea to swap out those jewel cases with empty dvd-style cases that they got somewhere. It probably was a good idea, given our propensity for accidentally breaking the jewel cases, but a black dvd box with the manual on the front really doesn't have the same curb appeal as the original setup.
So much easier for you guys since you don't have those chunky PAL cases, it's still possible though but it's harder to replace since they are uniquely designed Playstation branded cases.
@@AleksLazar Yeah, they are very hard to find with no damage, that's the issue. Especially if you are looking for cheap garbage game, they are almost always not well kept and have broken case.
Ah man this video is awesome. I've come across a couple other videos about replacing PS1 game cases over the years but yours goes that extra mile. Especially on how to fix up multi-disc game cases. Was always curious about the best way to fix those. And putting together those boxes to keep them in. I'm definitely gonna use this video when I get around to replacing some of my PS1 cases. This is definitely the definitive video on replacing scratched or scuffed up jewel cases.
Miles is a hero. We've all probably got some shattered and cracked jewel cases on our shelves. And he's got eBay links instead of Amazon links, because screw Bezos. Picking up some replacements now. Any chance for a Part 2 with ideas about how to create packaging for loose discs? Like what a good type of card stock would be for the back-side graphics, proper sizing/ formatting for the case spines (not the fonts specific to each game, but for the folds), and maybe the definitive way to resurface discs?
I looked into reproduction cases before. They are way pricey (about 30 per replacement + repro manual). As far as printing your own, I have done that sort of thing with PS2 games. Check the DIY box art on the channel.
Very informative & it’s nice to see another collector who’s as passionate about having the games nice and clean. I sometimes wonder how these cases get so bad. I have old games that are still in great condition🤔
I looked up how to fix my PlayStation 1 game Parasite Eve 2 case and I love how the thumbnail is the game from the same game series Parasite Eve 1. Cool video. ^_^

Most important thing to know, is that this is a case for a Playstation Black Disc. Cut Number 1 contains computer Data. So please, don't play it. But you probably won't listen to me anyway. ------- *will you?*

When you're taking apart the disc holder, there are tiny holes on the top and bottom near the spine. If you just poke something into those holes, the two halves will unlatch. No need to force it apart.
Great tutorial! Definitely helped me fix one of those multiple disc cases. Quick question for you though, how would someone fix one of those slim 2 disc cases? You know, the later ones like Dino Crisis with the Resident Evil 3 demo. That has a different 2-disc jewel case. Thankfully I don't have to fix mine but I'm sure someone out there will look up that exact question and would need help.
Awesome video..I definitely need to take the time and spend a bit o' $$$ to do this. I have a few annoying double disc cases, things like missing "teeth" or them not closing properly.
Best bet is to make sure you have them backed up. Discs can be reproduced. Labels are labels. Sadly label printing burners never made it easily to consumers. It was about too but technology ditched the CD before it could become mainstream.

Would i be better off just buying cheap ps1 games and switching out my expensive games and inserts? are can buying the cases you linked be good enough? i want to someday get my games graded and can the people who grade tell the difference between original ps1 cases and off brand? What i want to know is are off brand cases different in any way from original ps1 cases?
Do the new cases pieces effect the closing performance of the case? Sometimes when I use new cases, they don't want to close as easily as the originals
I'm really upset... I am 15, and I am hooked on PS1 games. I bought Silent Hill like 3 years ago, but it was a loose disc well obviously I'm an idiot because I am desperately trying to find the art and manual for it, and people are pricing the art and manual more than the actual game!!! Ugh, it makes me sick.
So you have any thoughts, place/site recommendations for reproductive parts? I have a missing cover at here, maybe missing manual there, etc. But the ones I print from my home, even with nice paper and "high res" print settings, never look perfect or close. I've been looking for a place that maybe does super high quality repro boxes, covers, manuals, etc.
