Fallout 4's main faults: dialogue, preston garvey "a settlement needs your help!" syndrome (weak, incompetent settlers and settlements), and Uniques being lackluster and too similar to legendaries (I missed hunting for uniques in previous games because they were actually unique and had some very nice features that could be exploited for an advantage to the character). Most of the uniques were meh. Crafting was janky--especially food. It was pretty much all the same or similar.
You can't go into an RPG expecting to go into it like "it's just a game". A lot of the fun of RPGs is actually playing the role the main character is supposed to be. I agree with your stance on Skyrim for that reason. No motivation makes it difficult to get into the game. I personally dislike games that just send you off to do your own thing the whole time
Well after over 4000 hours in Fallout 4 and creating over 50 mods for it myself I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the game. ^^ The biggest gripe I have with it (other than the notorious bugs which were mostly fixed by the modding community) is the lack of choice in terms of the narrative in the main campaign. Comparing Fallout 4 in this manner to games like Fallout: New Vegas would be like comparing a peanut to a pool table.
