"ride as if you are invisible" is excellent advice, and it's too true. "Right of way" means absolutely nothing to someone who doesn't know you are there. I spend a lot of time riding the opposite way of traffic on the sidewalk and at least once or twice per ride I have to stop for someone who is pulling out of a parking lot and turning right without even looking to check the sidewalk. If you do not make direct eye contact with a driver, they cannot be trusted.

I’ve had my pint for a week and already had my first nosedive within the first 30 miles. Ironically, it was from a “water cover” as you called it, and I definitely scraped up my palms and forearms. It was good to get that first fall out of the way, and I feel myself getting more confident with every ride. 1000 miles though. Wow! I hope to eventually get to that point. ⚡️💨

Very nice vid, I had almost 400 miles on my pint, and I had experienced some bad falls, but the one I had today was very strange, that's why I'm going online and search for long term ownership experiences, the fall today caused by an unexpected sudden speed up and shut down, the road was perfectly smooth, I was riding under 5miles/hr, but the board just suddenly tried to speed up, as I was trying to balance the board, the board suddenly shut down and nose dove on me, I didn't expect that AT ALL so I fell, the fall wasn't bad, luckily the road was a very smooth pavement, it's just the reason behind it is a mystery, after that, I rode another 4miles went back home but this accident is in the back of my head, I don't want it to reoccur when I'm riding 13miles/hr out on the streets with cars, that's extremely dangerous if it happens so unexpectedly since you've ridden double the distance, I'm wondering have you ever experienced something kinda like this before
@GarrettCrosgrove
@GarrettCrosgrove 3 года назад
Yeah, I've never had my board turn off while I'm riding. Last summer I did have a problem with it. I did the "Power Down Challange" just testing it to see if it would work with the pint just in my grass. And after I did my board wouldn't turn on or off. The lights were off, but the wheel didn't spin freely like it does when its off, but it wasn't as strong like when its just on, not being ridden. I couldn't get it to charge or connect with my phone and it didn't let me ride it either. It was still under warranty, so I mailed it in and they fixed it, but other than that I have had no problems with it. I do not recommend the "power down challenge" haha

Anytime I see this “issue” I have to say this. Even at a very low speed, it’s all about where you put your weight. If you ride it like an eskate, you will get hurt every time. Treat it like a snowboard and you’ll have a blast. Try to use your hips and back foot to steer and manuever.

In my opinion, wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads are more important that helmets. I wear a helmet too, but in my six pretty violent wrecks, the pads kept me from being seriously injured and I never even got close to bouncing my head. You break a wrist it stays with you your entire life.
@GarrettCrosgrove
@GarrettCrosgrove 3 года назад
Those are good tips. I'm so glad you wear safety gear including a helmet and I do agree with you, the times I've crashed I land on my butt/hip and my hands. However, I am more afraid of getting hit by a car that didn't see me and I think a helmet is most important.
@anousenic
@anousenic 3 года назад
@@GarrettCrosgrove I keep 4 reflective, bright aggressively yellow velcro strips in my pocket. During night or fog I attach them to my arms and legs. (Additionally my helmet has some reflective features) That way I feel more confident about getting seen by drivers that don't pay proper attention. (not that I rely on it, of course) It even helps when moving around pedestrians and cyclists, because they see me in their peripheral vision sooner when I'm behind or next to them. That deceases the likelyhood of them suddenly performing blind direction changes (and forcing me to react to avoid a collision).

When ever I just idle like standing on my one wheel in one spot it shuts it off
@GarrettCrosgrove
@GarrettCrosgrove 3 года назад
I'm assuming you're talking about not having the motor engaged. If it is turning all the way off where you need to push the power button and power it on then you should talk to the Onewheel customer service. But if it's just shutting the motor down it probably means you aren't engaging the footpads correctly. Make sure you have pressure on both your toe and heel on the pad. I also find that some types of shoes work better than others. (boots suck, tennis shoes are good) You also could have a damaged footpad (probably only damaged if the grip tape looks damaged)

@GarrettCrosgrove
@GarrettCrosgrove 3 года назад
Good tips!!! I think changing the tire pressure for the terrain you are riding on is a good idea.
@EliasLabordus
@EliasLabordus 3 года назад
@@GarrettCrosgrove Yes that is definitely an option. You will notice higher degradation though. These race kart tires are meant to be used at that pressure, to keep it in a certain shape. I think I even read somewhere on the onewheel website that you lose your warranty if you are not using the correct pressure. But anyway, a couple tenths of difference is probably not an issue, also considering they are meant to resist a lot more force/speed on a go kart. The question then becomes, will you even notice the difference? What are your thoughts? Thank you
@GarrettCrosgrove
@GarrettCrosgrove 3 года назад
@@EliasLabordus If the question is can I notice a difference between low tire pressure vs high? Then the answer is YES!!! In the winter time I lower the pressure to around 15psi to get better grip on snow and ice. And in the summer I like it around 30psi. The lower the pressure the better traction you will have and the softer the bumps will feel but you will lose how far you can ride on a charge. Higher pressure will be faster top speed, and better milage per charge but also quite more bumpy and stiff.
