Would you not be better saving your money for a driving licence , stop buying stuff your never going to restore it’s crazy , meant in nicest possible way
That ghastly fake wood is actually real walnut. Gearbox is a Rover Powertrain PG1 based on a Honda design, not a Peugeot one. That is the R65 used on the smaller K Series.
Clean it to within an inch of its life and get it on a lift and look at it underneath. That is probably a really good base project but you need a plan of action with it.
I had a 4-door Vitesse for a few years and that was a fun car, particularly with the addition of a cheapo bleed valve on the turbo :) I hope you can get this one into good shape! Good luck!
Friend of mine had an 827 coupe sterling with the 2,7 Honda lump. Nice old car, he converted it to run on LPG as he did starship mileage and it ran up to about 220,000 miles when the auto box crapped itself. The LPG system was taken off and the car scrapped.
Always wanted a coupe Vitesse, had 4 door Sterling and Vitesse in ny 20's in the 2000's, loved them. 620 turbo was a dream to have, had no end of 600's and my first good car was a H plate 216 GTi TC, adored it and would love another
Lucky you found that pair of sunglasses 😎 they are worth 3 x as much car and you can take off your obviously ROSE TINTED ones lol 😂, it’s another money pit , will you never learn from past mistakes ☹️.
@@classic_britain I did hear you say that but it still must cost you money to buy it , recover it back home and sit on it until you can pass it on to someone else probably at a loss ? Your hearts in right place 👍🏻 but financially you lose money 💰 you can’t afford to lose.
That's the instrument dimmer and it's real burr walnut veneer on aluminium bases. The gutters around the boot are rotten, you'll need to fix them. Add 0.5L of Carlube ATF-U to the engine oil, it will sort those hydraulic tappets. The front wings are Coupe ONLY, rear brakes need a specific method to replace the pads or the calipers WILL sieze! Sills were, maybe still are available through the 800 club, the bonnet is standard Mk2 800 and if you wawnt to change it for a Mk1 bonet you'll also need Mk1 headlights to fit the grille. Sounds like your clutch slave is dead, common problem! Good luck with it, having owned an 827 Coupe for 5 years, i can see you'll need it!
They were a lovely drive - not too many cars were as comfy - the Peugeot 406 gave it a run for its money. Reliability of the 2 were similar (i.E a bit crap..) but I like both cars just for their sheer comfort. The sills on these are an absolute doddle to rebuild - the shape is so simple, as are the jacking points - neither would bother me a bit.
I have the sterling with the 2.7L V6 Honda engine. Nothing but problems electronically. They look nice and I get loads of people chatting to me about it but would never buy another.
Why? The P6 is a fantastic car. The SD1 part of U.K. history. This unloved Sporn of the Honda love affair, not so much. I’d love to see you get a P6, dip the shell and build a perfect car, no rot or compromise on repair quality, something you could be proud of.
Excellent mate ! You've bought yourself a Honda Legend ! In terms of going wrong ? You can't! But what of the other 2 rovers you bought ? This was during the Rover/Honda tie up. I drive a KB1 Legend, and at 14 years old, I can say with honesty, it feels like I'm driving a new car still !
@@AllSortsOfStuff58 Actually I do quite high mileage and I'm no slouch. However, I do maintain all my cars myself and all the work is done properly. My current Rover 45 with a K series was diagnosed with a head gasket problem by my local garage in 2020. However, I didn't think it was, and after I removed the head I found it was actually a leaking valve. So how many other Rovers have been diagnosed with head gasket problems when they are not ?
@@johnbrereton5229 I ran seven 820SI s as chauffeur cars in the 80s. All of them did 2 - 300,000 miles, all were driven appropriately(corporate clients don't like racing drivers), and all blew their head gaskets at some point. All were diagnosed correctly by my workshop and fixed without any serious damage done, but they were know for it throughout the trade. I believe the smaller/later models were different story. I once had a 416SI as a runabout and loved it...
That is aircon but probaly doesn't work. That spoiler has been added they were only ever fitted to the fast back. Does not have cruise control And I wouldn't run it untill you have fitted a coolant tank, its probaly dry. Other then that.... You got yourself a high mileage Rotbox. Rather you then me, there are better examples out there going for peanuts
Went straight to CarAndClassic to see what's available in an 800, I'd love an SD1 but the step-child it adopted when it married Honda is a looker too, and a lot younger.
It should have had Aircon from the factory, with automatic temperature control, hence the digital display and related controls - another tell-tale sign is the word "Econ" on the dash - this was a mode of air conditioning that was supposed to save fuel.
It looks remarkably like an 1995 Honda Accord EX Coupe (at least North American spec) I've NEVER seen a Rover 800 Coupe live - but as you said - it's really rare...and they probably never made it to Canada...
😅sorry to say it’s a rust box get a screw driver and give it a good poke , thank god you didn’t say you were going to restore it , we would be waiting another 5 years , So I guess your plan is to sell it on quickly and hope to get a bit of a profit all being well.

That could be a gorgeous car but it needs a huge amount doing to it. Where's the expansion tank gone? And all the aircon gubbins? Looks like someone has raided the engine bay there's so much missing.
Always wanted one of these. Had a sterling coupe that had seen better days and always wanted one with a turbo’d t-series under the bonnet. Is that a vitesse lux with the sterling interior because they’re definitely not Recaro’ seats. Should have air con though unless its been removed because that’s the auto climate control gubbins also like the sterling. I doubt there’s any body parts shared with the tomcat though 😊
Have you given up Sheldon? I was just going through my dormant subscriptions, and I've noticed you haven't posted anything for around three months now. It would be a shame, but I recall you were experiencing difficulties from various directions ?
@@classic_britain Get well.....hope to see some more content soon. Just subscribed.....from the USA (born in the UK)....and, incidentally, my mum still lives in Cornwall too. Cheers....Julian
Finally a decent video, although still miss Toady, I cannot help but think you have bought yet another rust bucket with no real chance of it returning the cash you will need to spend on it. Good video though and a welcome return to the older offerings - well done.
@@classic_britain I admire your enthusiasm but I wish you’d stop wasting your money on sheds that you don’t restore and buy something decent to make content from….
You to greedy on your price.. 1000 tops. If somebody wants one that bad.. the two thousand to clean up.. and you could hit some shows with it.. to greedy bro..
@@classic_britain philbalwin asked how much. Not what the value is. You should have said make a offer. If you going to sell something you should be direct. . You didn't post the price or say the price on the video. But you told the world your moving it on for sale..a bit of a lesson for you..catch them while they hot. Move it out the door.. go find another one..or you will get a bad name.. so I ask you now. How much would you like for the car..thanks have a good night..
