Lived in Coimba for a year, and experienced the student life. The stories I could tell. But Coimbra is really a tale of two cities. When the students are in town, Coimbra is a noisey cesspool of debauchery, mayhem, beer, vomit and piss. When the students are out, Coimbra is as quiet and dull as a remote backwater. Beautiful city with centuries of grime on the walls. The ghosts of history hiding in the shadows. Danger lurking around every corner after the stroke of midnight. It's a special place with very old traditions. Cheers. Venha vinho!

A few months from now I'll comment in Portuguese in order for you to practice! 😉I'll give you a couple of months! 😊 There's a Coimbra Fado song called "Coimbra é uma lição" (Coimbra is a lesson), meaning that Coimbra is a lesson, and the things around it are the ones you need to learn to earn it. That song is on Guinness Records for the song that had the greatest amount of versions (I think it was 720!), in English, in French, in Japanese, etc.! There are great places to visit! I love Coimbra and I have family there!

The ribbons have different colors depending on what you studied on University, for instance: Law is red; yellow for Doctors, etc. It's a tradition in the whole country that family and friends write something on those ribbons (usually how proud they are and wishing that person luck on their future job. Usually there are special ribbons for parents and sweetheart.

Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. However, because it has so many trees and the breeze from the river, it's nice, even in hot days. You have a lot of great gardens, as well: Choupal, Choupalinho, Penedo da Saudade, Jardim da Sereia and Jardim Botânico (I don't remember if there is more than those).

@@OurBlackUtopia That's good, but don't put pressure on the right pronunciation because as long as you speak correctly, even if with a heavy accent, people understand you! You'll better your accent in time, don't worry! 😉As for my rude fellow portuguese, don't listen to him! There are portuguese people who have a horrific pronunciation in English and they think they don't! 😂

Unfortunately the main cities of Portugal are completely invaded by hordes of tourists and immigrants from all over the world packing the central streets and parks. Locals avoid those places and prefer to stay in the peripherals neighbourhoods. That's the new reality. Another really weird thing is the amount of videos made by foreigners, just arrived in the country, saying what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is not and how it should be! I'm not saying it is the case here, but it is an annoying fact!

Interesting. I believe the world is seeing an influx of foreigners in cosmopolitan cities - I believe that is the new normal. It's a double-edged sword. Either one's city/country does not have the infrastructure that would attract immigrants and they don't have enough jobs to keep their young folks which means that their economic situation continues to get worse or they create programs to attract immigrants and investors thereby gaining the money to invest in the infrastructure but then the citizens are pissed that every 3rd person is an immigrant or housing costs are rising. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Since I'm from Los Angeles, I Iove seeing all of the faces from different backgrounds - that is my "normal". We would never get on RU-vid and talk about 'what's wrong'. We are guests here and our home training dictates that we act accordingly. However, we did do a video called "Why NOT to move to Lisbon"; but it's not about what's wrong, it's about what's different and may take some time to get used to. Obrigada and thanks for watching.
