Definitely think it would be different with a younger MAN looking for a fast bike. I think it's natural for a salesperson to be more gentle with a young woman. Send in a young male who's pumped up for his first bike and see what happens...

My impression has always been motorcycle dealerships are generally honest especially in small towns. The motorcycle community is a small one so word gets around quick if the dealership does anything shady.

I'd witnessed this a million times and honestly I'd never seen a salesman con an inexperienced person into buying a expert level bike. They do however will do anything to con a seasoned rider lol

My wife, an experienced cruiser rider, went to upgrade to a larger cruiser and the dealer tried to sale her a high end crotch rocket. When she said she doesn't like those types of bikes they walked away from her and wouldn't talk to her. We went to a second shop that treated us good, so we bought two bikes. (I upgraded mine as well.)

Glad to see these salesman doing right by Liz. I remember wanting to start on a motorcycle and saying things like, "I don't want to buy two bikes. I'll just buy the big one now." Everyone talked me out of it...thank goodness! I'd be dead!

All the sales people did a great job. You have to keep in mind that some customers have a huge ego, and if you tell them off too strongly, they might make a huge drama on social media or leave you a bad review or file a complaint against your behavior.

I think most bike salesmen wouldn’t sell anything over a 600 to any person regardless of their age if their experience is less that anything of a year. And even if they did, they would be highly against it and really try to talk you out of it. Some of them really have morals and wouldn’t want to see people get hurt. They also have been there and either dumped/wrecked/ or see a friend crash or even die from inexperience. Glad to see many salesmen putting up resistance against your team. Good to know there are honest ethical people out there.

I went into my local dealership to buy my first bike a few years back, and asked around several times and to several people on whether a brand new beginner rider would be safe on a Z900. The overwhelming answer was yes. As a significantly more seasoned rider, especially watching this series, I feel like they were just trying to sell a new bike that they couldnt sell to anyone else. Moreover, they sold me a ZX14 less than a year later. I dont think they like me very much, now that im really thinking about it....

I feel like there should be one for motorcycle shops, I have had motorcycle shops try to scam me because Im a woman, I'm amazed that the dealerships are being this honest.

Small bike for learning! I can't recommend it enough. I had a friend who had never ridden a motorized bike before, only bicycles. He's around 6'3 or so. He kept arguing that he's a big guy, but I was adamant that he should learn on a smaller, cheaper, lighter bike. Nope... bought a Vulcan 900, dumped it exiting his driveway for the first time. Messed up his ankle cuz the bike landed on it. Scratched up his bike. I just shook my head. Ironically, he wanted to borrow MY BIKE for his first ride, because he could tell from sitting on it how much easier it was to handle... an '87 Suzuki Intruder 750. I said... NOPE!! You're not learning on my baby, you chose that bike... good luck to ya! He was on the "I don't want to buy another bike next year" bandwagon.

I've been riding for 25 years, had multiple bikes and I'm currently riding a 135cc Benelli. Loving it!

I love this series. I can't wait to see if Sean finds a dubious salesman, but it feels like it is gonna be the exception. Don't forget that most salesmen are, or at least used to be, riders themselves. Part of growing a strong community if bikers is by helping the newer riders not get themselves killed.

Hats off to the guys saying "no" to the busa inquiry. When I bought my 600rr as a first bike, I knew it was a dangerous bike and I went through the MSF training program. I didn't ride like a moron most of the time, I'd only do stupid stuff late at night or when it was completely free on the highway of any traffic. Every single shop that had a busa said it would kill people and it was only for advance riders. Great job on them because it was true, we had a few local deaths due to them. Always respect the machine

Funny vid ! She did a great job delivering those lines to the salespeople. I've been browsing at dealers when kids came in with their dads trying to buy the fastest sports bikes available. My wife went from a 650 Yamaha to a 1500 Goldwing pretty fast, though. She was too stubborn to talk out of it. I think you should do a part 2 with Lizzy, she's awesome !

My worst experience was watching a salesman tell a close friend "you don't need a license to buy... plus, a tip, if you run from the cops they legally can't chase you... so you could ride it home today if you want" Mind you, he was going to look for a first bike and hadn't been on one before. He's smart enough to know better, and neither of us will be doing any business with that particular dealership... they have a horrible reputation as is.

I love the fun of this channel. However, this particular series is on another level. Its awesome.

The first guy sales guy did great at not selling her a bike just to take her money and he should be commended for not getting her in a bad situation by thinking money over safety. He looks young for a sales guy but was right on with keeping her safe.

i suggest anyone that wants to start riding to get a cheap, light, small motorcycle (125-400cc). there is no shame in that. start small, build your skill up. don't be afraid to drop the bike (that's why it's supposed to be cheap). don't only practise in sunny weather and on perfect tarmac, practise riding in rain (there's a ton of additional difficulties in rain/snow), practise on gravel, grass, wherever. learn what it is about to ride a motorcycle in general. you don't want to destroy your dream bike because it's too big, too fast, too precious.

2002 in San Francisco I was at a Ducati/MV-Agusta dealership. Attractive woman looking at a Duc Monster. I overheard her asking very basic questions about motorcycles. Very. Says the bike is pretty but doesn't look like it's for beginners. I did my own thing and was leaving about 40 minutes later. She is sitting on the bike, with temp plates. Dealership was on an uphill 1-way street. The stalling, the revving, the clutch smell, oh my. Finally she had it going uphill at too low a rev. It was bucking and drive-train snatching it's way uphill. They both deserved better than that. Never did business there again.

Currently looking at getting my first bike. Would never shop by myself for fear of being taken advantage of, but this gave me some hope. Thanks for the video!

I trust bike salesman 100% more than a car salesman, that's for sure. Back in the day I used to sell bikes at a Miami dealer, and came across this every day just about. If I put someone on a crazy bike , the owner would lose it because the customers were like family , and we expected them back again for many years to come. You'd have to be pretty desperate to do that to someone.

That was cute! I like the fact that even though you used the salesman's time, it looked like they had fun and you weren't pulling them away from any other customers. I imagine most sales guys are trying to fit the customer to the bike in their mind and she probably threw them for a loop. They might have had an easier time if she told them she wanted to purchase 3 bikes at the same time, the just-out-of-school bike, the cruiser, then the track bike. And that she wanted all three bikes sitting in her four car garage to be displayed for motivation to get after it! That would have given them the green light to put her in whatever she thought was cuter regardless of skill level.

Motorcycle businesses are pretty much aware that once they sold a small cc bike they will come around to make their way up in displacement, rather than being killed in their first ever bike with an overpowered engine

I once had a situation where a teenager was shopping for his first bike. He was drawn to the busa and the dad asked the salesman if it would be a good bike for him to start out on. Without hesitation, the salesman said that it would be and encouraged them to purchase the bike. I stepped in and gave the dad a quick rundown of the different bikes and their capabilities. You should have seen the looke gave the salesman after that. He was rightfully furious.

These are great videos!!! My first bike back in ‘87 was a slightly used ‘86 FZ600, which was my senior vehicle in HS. It was the service manager’s bike and had K&N air filters, Kerker exhaust and floating discs… quite a performance 600 for a first time bike. I’d ridden 80cc dirt bikes a few times as a kid, but that was it. First week… flew around a car coming up to a hairpin. Road went to the right, but I went straight. I was able to brake quickly and dump it over on the shoulder at only about 10 mph. Fast forward to summer and I was following BMW guys through twisties on the way to Laconia. FF 2 years to being hit head-on by an ambulance, thumb breaking off, bike totaled (and an amazing doctor who put me back into shape). 12 crashes total and lots of $$ on plastic. I’m that textbook reason why testosterone teens with a ridiculous sense of immortal adventure shouldn’t start with powerful bikes! In hindsight, a Ninja 250 and some Adderall would’ve been a better route. :)

Great video! Those dealers were A+, I think much better than a typical car dealer. Thinking more about customer safety than making a sale. But in the past I personally have been scammed by a motorcycle dealership when I was college age. I wish they were all that good.

9:21 She's actually right though. One of the reasons I like Indians over Harleys is specifically because of the lower CG and lower seat height. When you're a tall guy like Sean, it doesn't make much difference, but if you're a shorter guy like me, it's a noticeable difference for sure.

This video reminded me of witnessing a guy buying way more bike than he could handle. I was in the Marines (about 92) and me and some buddies met another buddy at the Honda dealership to see his new bike. A salesman rolled out a new CBR1000 with a guy. They were right behind me and I overheard the conversation Salesman: Are you sure you can handle this bike? You don't have a license yet and it is really powerful. guy: Oh, yes. I grew up riding dirt bikes and rode bikes my whole life. (He appeared about 20 or 21 years old.) Salesman: OK The bike started up, and I heard it rev up and start bouncing off of the rev limiter. I turned just in time to see him just let go of the clutch. The bike took off, he fell off the back, and the bike shot across the parking lot in a wheelie and smashed into a Honda Civic. I will never forget how big his eyes looked as he was sitting there on the ground with the helmet on and his visor open. Turned out the guy has never actually ridden a bike in his life.

I'm glad to see someone has done this. I just got my license, but I did take a motorcycle safety class. One of the girls in my class bought a bike before the course and rerated it. the salesman sold her a new Harley sportster and instant regret as a first bike. I went to a bike dealership the day my license came in to look and get a feel for possible bikes I was looking into. The first guy did well about the physical size and guiding me away from some of the bigger adventure bikes, but he wasn't knowledgeable with dual sport or adventure riding bikes so he brought a second guy over. However the second guy was pointing me into the larger cc and I was having to keep repeating that was probably too much fore a first bike, based on what my instructor and previous person mentioned. Then a third guy I talked to was trying to sell a similar bike to what he has which was closer to what I needed but was a tad tall for comfort. then started showing me his scars from his motorcycle wreck, while also giving me his card and wanting to join for a ride when I got my bike. So I felt uncomfortable and just left. It really sucks because we don't have many shops around here. it will be a 2hr or 4hr drive to go to any others around here.

about 10 years ago i worked at a harley shop. first bike i ever rode was a vrod muscle and i know if i owned one id have died back then 😂 very fun to cruise with more experience though

Funny thing is, living in Germany, there is actually a system of bike licenses where you can do a license for bikes up to 48 hp at the age of 18 but you must have this license for at least two years before getting a chance to make the A license wich gives you permission to drive all bikes above 48 hp. You will also have to take a drivers safety class additionally to the normal drivers license.

Sean and B&B crew - yall are great lol - I've been riding for almost a decade and own a Ninja 300 now. Tried the liter bikes, tracked 600s but nothing feels more fun than the smaller bikes.

My first motorcycle was an RF900R. Not quite a sport bike, but still way too much motorcycle for a first time rider. I didn’t even have an M endorsement when I bought it, and the salesman knew that. They had to deliver it to my place of work, and my boss rode it home for me. At the time I thought it was awesome, but looking back, I was an idiot, the salesman did nothing to dissuade me, and I was lucky to survive my first year on it. I had more accidents in that year, than the rest of my life combined. Fortunately I survived and ended up riding MC’s for many years to come.

I like the fact that these guys were more about safety than a quick buck. That's how I would roll. I wouldn't sell a beginner anything over 250-400CC and I would rather it be 250. I'd tell them to take care of the 250, don't set it don't and bring it back to me next summer and if you want a faster one I will give you a great trade.

I have been riding for 50 years but I sold my 1500 vulcan a couple years ago, I'm a disabled Vet and I struggle with arthritis I decided I wanted to try a Harley Davidson and went to the local shop, price wasn't an issue but weight and comfort and looks mattered, the salesman didn't try to push me into anything, I was looking at a couple cruisers and the salesman showed me a bike they had gotten in on trade, it was a 1 owner 2007 fatboy with 2500 miles on it for just over 7500, love it, great bike, great price, great experience. I have met some really bad stereotypical salesman in the past but these guys were great.

Recently looked at a ninja 400 and told the salesman I had plenty of dirt bike experience but no street bike experience and he suggested I'd be happier with a z650. In the moment I thought he was trying to upsale but honestly that's probably on point. Still haven't bought anything yet.

Truth told , with the way she looks I'm slightly surprised she didn't roll out of one of those shops with a free bike .

I've completed my motorbike licence (in the UK) which I trained on a 600cc.. along with my husband at the same time. When we went into a shop the salesmen was more than happy to offer my husband a 700cc bike and offered me a 125cc!!

I think I might try this 🤔 I still consider myself a new rider, but learned on a 600cc shadow and have done a crap ton of restoration on it. I'm looking for my 2nd bike, so convenient timing

So, props to those who did not sell her the bike. A true sales person would not sell a bike that would kill an inexperience rider. Regardless if they come in and flaunt the cash. If the sales person/company new it was an inexperienced rider, sold them a super fast bike and that person dies, they can get sued. Just like a bar that over sells a person drinks and ends up dead for driving drunk. Why? Because they new. Awesome job on putting out videos like these. Stay humble and ride safe!

I know a guy that wanted to ride but would consider nothing but HD big twin. Soon after getting his bike he crashed and decided to give up riding. But he still wore the shirts like he was a bad ass. What a pathetic poozzy!

I told a Honda dealership I had never ridden before. They sold me a VTX 1300R. I dropped it in the parking lot. They told me to take it down the street to the high school parking lot and practice before I got on the highway.

My first bike was a monster and I'd never even ridden one before. Had to have my buddy ride it home for me. Best choice I could have made. It scared the shit out of me and taught me to respect it.

Had a buddy come back from a deployment, walk into a Harley dealership, and slap down cash on his first bike. He wasn't advertising that he had never ridden before. After completing the sale, he turns to the salesman and asks "alright, how do I work this thing?" The salesman just looked at him dumbfounded but gave him the best crash course he could in the parking lot. My buddy rode it home successfully in what he still considers the most terrifying ride of his life.

Mate your so lucky to have sales men that take the time to try and help you I went to a triumph garage a few months ago and the sales men couldn’t even get off his ass to acknowledge I was even in the shop here in the UK . That's a good thing you do. Years ago I was talking to a young guy that bought a Suzuki GSXR I believe it was. It was the fastest production motorcycle at that time. It was also his first motorcycle. All he could talk about was speed. He had work done on it at the dealership to make it even faster. I knew he wasn't going to last long. I had been riding for a few years by then, long enough to know you can become comfortable on a new motorcycle in a few days but also know it takes years to gain the experience you need to safely operate a motorcycle. It wasn't very long after my conversation with him that a friend of mine watched him crash into the back of a dump truck at what he estimated was well over 100 mph. My friend helped cover him up.

Wife started riding at 42 years young. I put her on one of my old 2 strokes. A tiny little Suzuki GT185 twin. Then the following summer I gave her a mint 82 Gpz 550. She tipped it over However put nearly 6.000 miles on it. The 3rd season She bought a new Kawasaki Vulcan 900 traded it in the following year for a 1600 Meanstreak. She is now 56 years young and rides a 2016 Victory Hammer S. She got a good 10 12 years of riding in and now the Bikes just sit and collect dust.

Bought a Hayabusa my second season of riding, after riding a Yamaha XJ600N (60 bhp) and briefly a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 (60ish bhp). No ABS, no traction control, no ride modes - and no problems. Took a long trip with both luggage and a passenger too, though that was very uncomfortable for both parties. I may perhaps have slightly more throttle control than most, but I still gave it the beans now and then, when the conditions were right. Only kept it for one season, because with 50-55 mph max speed limits close by, it was extremely overpowered for the roads, and it sucked cruising at those speeds with a 180 hp rocket.

Back in 1989, I went to a Yamaha motorcycle dealership to look at the Vmax. While I was looking, a young guy walked in and I overheard him talking to a salesman, stating that he wanted to biggest, baddest motorcycle money can buy. The salesman led him to the Vmax I was looking at and said, "This is the biggest, baddest bike we have!". The guy throws a leg over the bike and hunkers down behind the windscreen. The salesman proceeds by asking him what other bikes has he ridden before. The young guy says, "None, this will be my first!!!". After that, the salesman says, "It would be very irresponsible for me to sell this bike to you, a beginner with no riding experience!!".....

I was honestly so impressed. Despite being salespeople they are still part of the community and looking out for a new rider. So at Indian they correctly advised her it’s not a beginner’s bike (do they even have any?) and to ask a friend to lend a small bike and teach her, a second one that GSX1000 is too much, 3rd one that Busa isn’t good as a first bike and she’s going to fall, last one was willing to sell the bike after they saw she knew her stuff and had experience riding (she never said she is a first time rider did she? This part is confusing.)

I bought a 2015 Diavel in 2018 as my first bike. Sales guy didn’t even ask how long I had been riding. The first place i went to did, and i could tell he though i was wasting his time after i told him that I wanted a diavel lol I think having restraint and taking classes is important and never stop learning and taking advice. I kept my Diavel on the low power mode and max traction control for my first two years before i was comfortable enough to jump into the full 162 horses. And it was a COMPLETELY different bike. Had to learn how to ride all over again lol

I absolutely respect the shit out of these people that told her they didn’t feel comfortable with her on those bikes as a beginner. There’s so many people out there that don’t care. When I bought my first bike most everyone tried to get me to buy crazy big bikes. I ended up getting a FZ6 600 for a first time bike and honestly if you’re not an idiot and have a little bit of riding experience on dirt bikes and stuff a 600 isn’t all that crazy.

My fathers good friend died like this. He bought a bike way too powerful for him and thought he could handle it. He went straight off the road during a sharp corner, and went flying down a steep bank. He climbed up the bank (amazingly) and died just as the ambulance got to him. If he didnt climb up the bank then he would probably have never been found. Scary stuff!

If you are a True Biker - I don't care What you ride - Harley - Busa - Ducati V4S, If you are truly Passionate about biking - and you sell bikes - you will never sell a bike that is to much for a Person that has little to no Experience. That's just not cool! Love the Vids Guys!!
