2:40 as someone who basically lived over a grocery store, that apartment was by far my favorite. You don’t know, until you’ve experienced it. Imagine: you’re cooking and forgot an ingredient, you don’t even need to turn off the stove to get what you need. Craving something, say no more. Since you’re going to the grocery store multiple times a day you learn all the prices by hear pretty much and know when something is cheaper which saves you money. No reason to spend more than 10min shopping for food either because you only buy exactly what you’re going to use that day which also means less wasted food. It’s incredible.

I agree with this bc I lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for a year. Everyone gave me the expectation that I wouldn’t like it, so my expectations weren’t too elevated going in. My rent was $340 a month including all utilities. I had my work, a gym, and all my favorite coffee spots and restaurants all within a 5-10 minute vicinity. When I wanted to do something fun I would go 1-2 hours east to bigger cities. It was a great place to live, and I grew a lot in my career bc of limited distractions.

2 years ago I owned a home in Ohio and a business. I accumulated a lot of things that I thought brought meaning to my life. But I was still unhappy so when the pandemic hit things got slow with my business and didn't look like they were coming back. So I decided to sell everything off and move to Texas. I started a new business that I actually enjoy and live in a place I actually like. You don't realize how much The things you have hold you back from what you really want until you let them go. Just thought I'd share that. And thanks for the great content Alex.

📌 Several years back I did the same thing. Sold/gave away everything minus suitcases. My daughter did the same. We moved to Europe. Home based it in The Netherlands. We lived that way for 4 years in a beautiful furnished home. We also came to similar conclusions. First, living in a foreign country had its own set of stressors. We couldn’t read street signs, or even our own mail. Second, we came to realize having deep, meaningful discussions was difficult due to translation. Third, having a ‘home base’ that’s yours to do with as you please, keeps the creative juices flowing... at least for us. We wouldn’t trade those 4 years for anything. We grew and grew and grew. In the end, we learned, home is an extension of ones soul. Just found ya dear man. Excellent channel. 👊😎

This is so timely, I'm in deciding between selling my home to try and just "live out of a bag" or just keep my place as a home base but renovate it to refresh it to be exactly how I want it. I feel I might be making the mistake of "overcorrecting" you mentioned. I've lived in this place for the last 5 years and have accumulated a lot of junk that I never use. Honestly, I'd love to get rid of 95% of it because it ends up taking head space which seems to be the scarce resource for me. I'm getting rid of one business and trying to simply my portfolio as well which will hopefully help - but I was really fantasizing about the next nomad season of just traveling around minimally and just renting / buying cheap things as and when I needed them.

This video is really on point, thank you for making it. I also sold everything I own because I wanted to reset my life. I ended up living out of a suitcase and traveled for 4 years to see where I'd ultimately want to settle in and start my new life. After a few years of traveling, I really missed having a home base with my own stuff and my own neighborhood with familiar faces and local places to go. I ended up moving to Polanco in Mexico City because to me it seemed like a perfect mix of what I wanted in a home base. I've never been happier and hope everyone has the chance to reset. I have learned so much from you and wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

Hey Alex. Definitely agree with most of your living points. But I don’t agree with your flying choices. One flight in a commercial plane from New York to LA has a carbon footprint of 4 tons of CO2. The average person has a carbon footprint PER YEAR of 16 tons. So you are wrecking the environment by flying, not to mention that you fly in private jets which is way worse. The problem is not the size of the plane, or the length of the trip, but rather the takeoff and landing which burns huge amounts of fuel.

Creating algorithms so that you can focus on making new decisions and not re-making old decision is a super valuable piece of advise. I'm an actuary in the P&C space (about 2 years into my career) and that's one of the most significant principals that I have learned on my own, first hand. At my first job I was told that actuaries only do ad-hoc work, which is when I realized that I was working for the wrong company. At the company I work for now, I spend all of my time creating new systems and improving existing systems because I have identified outputs that could be produced systematically at the same time every month/quarter, rather than sporadically (ad-hoc) every month/quarter.

I learned about the pooled leasing of luxury cars about 15 years ago in Santa Clarita. There was a Mickey Mouse alumnus who signed up with a guy at the restaurant / tasting room on the spot when he heard about it. I'm not a car guy (like Alex), so it didn't mean anything to me. But having a Mickey Mouse alumnus tell me about his show in London and buy me bottle after bottle of fine wine was pretty cool. So my takeaway was... if you don't make $1 million per month, hang out with people who have hedonic adaptation to their wealth and don't mind spending it on strangers.

I find it amazing that people outside of the gym world are just hearing of Alex 😅😅😅 he’s so smart it’s almost embarrassing that I learn, and digest something good from him everyday like what did I do in school 😂😂😂
