Although I have been a Porsche fan since I was 10, an Italian friend who was born in Italy, lives in Italy, owned a car parts business in Italy once told me in Italian, "Ferraris are beautiful to look at, but if you want a real sports car, get a Porsche". His words, not mine. I now have a mint 993 and a 991.1 GTS, both in manuals. When you have the right cars, you tend to keep them much like my BMW motorcycle, now at 30+ years of ownership.
I agree. I normally like lighter wheels, but I have always loved these gts wheels in black. Not sure how they would look in another colour, especially given the black centre locks.
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!
@Ivana Notyers exactly BABVVO means Bundesabgasbespassungsverbotsverordnung = "Federal smoke fun bann" they will bann all ICE cars after 2030 from 2027 on you wont get spares and some years later motorsport will be all eletric too, Formula 1 will than be Formula E.
I feel better after your video. I have a 991.2 GTS cabrio. I used to have a Ferrari 360 and F430. The Porsche isn’t as sexy or visceral as the Ferraris were but it doesn’t produce the angst they did either. I was toying with selling the GTS to go after another Ferrari but your video reminded of why I got the Porsche in the first place.
Hi Sam, giving serious consideration to chopping my C63 in for a GTS but have to ask, was that Majestic in North Sheen you stopped at??? Ps thanks for the video, very helpful!!!
Hi Sam, just looking at the GTS models at the minute 991.1/.2 but I agree, I’m not a massive fan of the black wheels either so will go GT Silver. What did you decide in the end… did you just repaint the wheels or change them?! Any issues with the break dust. Thank you 👍🏻
3:40 its not like you need to change a wheel simply because the GTS or any other 911 does not come with a spare wheel. The forums make such a big deal of Centerlocks when they are not an issue at all. I mean how often do you need to remove a wheel...to do a brake flush, change the spark plugs. Thats every 2 to 4 years.
Platinum Satin is the Porsche color wheel you should consider. Hides brake dust. Doesn’t draw too much attention away from the car itself. I have them on my sapphire blue 2014 Carrera S. I could send you a photo if you tell me how.
Yeh very very nice fella, huge Porsche fan and I have the 2011 997 GTS, the original :) I wanted it from the first time it was released, couldve got a 992 but this is what I wanted and I didnt want to get a 992 and still be looking at 997s if you know what I mean. Anyway nice blue it looks bright and lively, I agree with the wheels, centre lock is a bit much for just a daily road car so I waited and got one with the 5 stud option which turns out is quite rare as I dont see any on the road with anything other than centres, its good as I can get some winter wheels and have more variety when it comes to choice and I can swap them over myself. Again agree with the lower ride height, I have to brake for the majority of speed ramps which is a bit irritating. Did your 991.2 come with the raised suspension button? Not sure if it was an option in your version tbh. personally the Bose in mine is a bit pants, I grew up in the DNB era so I need punchy bass and its not even close, mine has the pcm carplay hack but still glitchy though. Cruise control is a good option but again no one specs it, Im getting the retrofit at around £700 from Porsche but its been on back order seems forever. In all fairness you made a decent choice enjoy her.....oh and forgot to say, the centre locks can be removed and the 5 stud module replacing them, its not a much of a faf tbh
Interesting, glad you love your 997, cool things. I don’t have the lift but you could spec it as an option. It would be nice to swap wheels in winter easily at home.
@@johnguidetti5839 I think the point is the price difference, how can Porsche sell a product at that price and not include it even as an option. Yet a 2020 basic model with in manual comes with it as standard
The annoying thing for me with PDK in the Uk is the direction you push the stick to go into manual mode. Here we push it away from us but in left hand drive countries like Germany for instance they pull it closer to them for your more engaging manual shifts. Yes I can still reach it but it would be better if they reversed it for us brits. I have a 997.2 C2S PDK and the Bose is pretty crap to be honest. No where near as good as the middle upgrade in my old 2011 X3. Maybe it’s the insulation?
Very nice Sam, have a black 991.1 C4S at the mo and this would be the next purchase. Looks v similar to a car that was behind me this morning near Weybridge Surrey?
I have had two 911s with the center-lock rims, OMG they are such a problem when you get a nail in the tire. Never ever will I get a Porsche with those center-lock wheels. I was hit head-on by a truck in my 2016 Porsche 911 GTS. Took me 3 years to get back to normal after a broken neck and broken lower back and both bones in my leg were broken. 5 surgeries later I purchased my 17th Porsche; a 991.2 Turbo 2019. I wanted a Turbo S but Porsche would not allow my order to go through with the 5-spoke non-center-lock wheels so I settled on the Turbo. Love the 5 spoke mag rims with the normal 5 lug-nuts. Good video and I owned 3 GTSs in past. They were all amazing daily driver cars. Also prefer the PDK over manual especially in Washington DC traffic. My Corvettes are manual but looking forward to the new ZO6 with Tremec Dual-clutch. Like your color blue. I will never get another steering wheel in alcantara because it gets matted down and looks awful after 6 months. Hard to restore it if you don’t stay on top of the care of the alcantara or now called “race-dex”. Enjoy your GTS. I think the 991.2 GTS is the best thus far daily Porsche! I do really enjoy my 991.2 Turbo as a daily driver. After a tune & headers & intake my car is 720 hpw at the crank. Extremely fast, quick & drivable‼️ Cheers bring on more videos!!!
Oh wow, sounds like you had a rough time for a while. Glad you’re better now. I totally agree, Centre locks are a pain (I even bought my own torque wrench so I could take the car wherever to change stuff) and alcantara steering wheels…fml
porsche's inability to get radar cruise setup in a manual is just silly. vw golf r manual does adaptive cruise until 15mph -- below that is disengages.
Hmmm tbh I this design kind of suits the black (or maybe I’ve only seen it in black) obvious choice would be silver but how about get another set of wheels probably from Porsche that’s not this design and not black. Love the podcasts as always keep up the good work Sam!
Love it Sam! I have the same color in a 991.2 Touring. I recently got the 19" Apex wheels in race silver. They used my car for the photoshoot so you can check out how the wheels would look in your car, I'd highly recommend them.
Sam you traded the lusso ?:)) come on man !! You think small …. Keep the lusso get the Porscha . You’re on a bearish mental mindset. That’s an alert !!!Let me know if you need help to keep all those vehicles
I have one of these cars and although a good review the mistakes grated on my sense of accuracy. The centre button on the mode button is 20 seconds and a Carrera s cannot be specified to GTS level the horsepower is different and the suspension setup makes it a different prospect.
Thanks for the feedback. You can however spec a power kit for the c2s that bumps the power up to GTS levels but you are correct about the 20 seconds. On the 991.2 there aren't tonnes of differences in the suspension, it's just 10mm lower isn't it? and actually an option you can remove if you want.
Great vid Sam, I recently bought the 991.2 C4 GTS and I absolutely love it, changed into it from a 992 4s which so dissatisfied me. It had terrible build quality, speakers, door cards and interior rattles from everywhere. Imo also way too much digital interface for basic controls that annoyed the hell out of me on the move. The GTS is a revelation as my daily, lucky enough to have others too for more raw satisfaction, but for me this is the sweet spot in the range. Wish you well to drive it!
Thanks, interesting to hear you came back from a 992. I drove a 992 GTS recently and whilst there are some improvements I’m really not sure about some of the interior changes.
Good vid - how are you finding the turbo engine vs N/a ? Missing the sound or does the extra torque more than make up for it ? Is yours pre opf filter , pre summer 2018 cars I believe
Best car for the money you can buy. Hands down. I have a 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS for the traction, this one is lighter. There is something to be said for both versions. I like the light bar on the 4 as well.
