I Spent $100+ On Old Games At GameStop And... 

Between the 3 brothers growing up it was a big deal who got to unwrap the new game from the plastic. Against our better judgement, we let my youngest brother unwrap one and he proceeded to accidentally tear off the front cover of the game box… we still make fun of him to this day.

As a physical collector I absolutely love this channel actually showing the cases and manuals great idea matty!

You've really inspired me to start back up my physical game collection again. Back in the day, I never had money for games, so I'd have to do trade in's when I finished one. I'll always be bitter that I didn't save those PS2 .Hack/sign games, seeing as now they're like a couple hundred dollars each. I've had some good luck so far with my buying. A couple of times now, I'd order what I'd think was just the normal version of an old PS2 game, and Gamestop would end up sending me the collector metal cases at no extra cost.

I like going back and watching these old ones. "It has this stuff on it, don't know what it is", foreshadowing the Man Juice 😂

11:35 This is the only version for Xbox. This released first on PS2. The Xbox version was a special edition because it had some extra modes PS2 didn’t have. You got the right game.

War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are GREAT picks! Bummer about the cases though. You can't even buy those games digital anymore so physical copies on the PS3 and 360 are the only way to go, and they're legitimately the 2 best Transformers games ever made!

On that infamous collection, there was a PS3 bundle that had the games in cardboard sleeves like Wii sports was, so you may have had one of those copies traded in to the store that fulfilled your order, and their only choice was to put them in a blank case. Had it been my store though we would’ve put one of the discs in a sleeve and put it in the slot for the manual.

Matty, use the best kept secret for removing stickers on any case or cartridge is "Rubber Cement Thinner" designed for graphic designers who have to remove old scotch tape or adhesive off original artwork or a ad layout. You can purchase it from any Art Supply & Graphic Arts retail stores. It will not damage delicate printed case covers that slip within the clear plastic as well as tough to get off stickers on any rare or valuable game. I removed old 20 plus year stickers off cardboard printed PS1 Tall Boxes with zero damage to the printed artwork on cover, also great for removing stickers off strategy guides & SNES or Genesis carts! I uploaded a video on it with my own gaming channel!

That Infamous collection was definitely a catastrophe

Infamous Collection had a release in a cardboard sleeve which is one of the problems with it, makes it a pain in the ass to order a copy that isn’t on like eBay or Mercari

One thing to consider with GameStop games is that this is just how poorly people take care of their games, not necessarily gamestop’s fault. I worked at a GameStop for a while and the stuff people would bring in would make me need to wash my hands. I don’t order used games from them, I only buy games in person to see if it’s in good shape because they don’t test games, only consoles. The stuff you order comes straight from the stores and is likely something somebody just traded in in the condition you’re seeing.

(Old Guy Here) In regards to the Star Wars Star Fighter - The PS2 had the Starfighter "Standard" Edition The "Special Edition" version was exclusive to the Original Xbox with the extra content, much like Burnout 2 had a Director's Cut on Xbox, but not on PS2.

Stop worrying about the stickers, Matty. Get you some goo-gone and rubbing alcohol. Almost every case can be a good case with that 1-2 punch.

I’m 99% sure the Infamous collection was a console bundle pack in, and they were in paper sleeves, so they probably never had a proper plastic case. Still no excuse for a loose disc.

To be fair, Infamous 1 and 2 collection came in a cardboard sleeve along with the uncharted collection with specific ps3 slim consoles. They were just sandwiched in the cardboard too with no padding. Good thing Blu-Ray is designed to be anti-scratch.

I'm not sure if you will see the comment Matty but I used to work in GameStop 20+ years ago. We would use a hairdryer to tighten the plastic around the games to seal them. You can also use a hairdryer to loosen the glue on the sticker and allow it to come off much easier

I feel bad that you have to check GameStop for retro games where I live there are 6 different retro video game stores that do a good job keeping all games in good condition

Tomb Raider Trilogy is really fun and feels surprisingly modern, with its climbing and acrobatics.

So fun fact. Every one of those packages came from a different store depending on availability. They also rarely send them from stores that are close to you. And the stickers are dated. If they are dated after 2018 they should be "new" stickers.

I got Lost Odyssey and it came complete boxed with manual but the cover are had a hole in it. I got RDR2 new and it was a display copy so they put that stupid sticker to keep it from opening I got AC 1 and it was the black case

stickers are my biggest pet peeve with collecting games (besides preowned replacement cases), because they have a tendency to not peel off completely. One of my local second hand store is the worst when it comes to stickers, they put them on the god damn spines of the case

That sticker inside the Star Wars III Lego game was the Warranty. IF you had issue with the game you could take it back and get it replaced. :(

Most PS360 games published after 2010 no longer had manuals to save costs & to adhere to Walmart’s then edict on reduced packaging. This is when you saw the DVD cases with the recycle arrow cut out of the case that weakened the integrity of the case & caused so many disc scratch issues that those cases were thankfully abandoned years later.

Different stores print different stickers. That's why you were able to peel it easily.

I experienced this the other week, bought 3 transformers games and rise of the dark spark cover was in Italian. Also a bit of a gamble when buying from the shop itself as they remove all the games from its cases so you never know the condition of the disk until you bought it

I just got Lego Lord Of The Rings for 360 (in box with manual) as it’s backwards compatible with FPS Boost on SeriesX, but the game is delisted digitally. Drakengard 3 boxed with manual for PS3 and all the PS3 physicals for the Ratchet & Clank trilogy and Future games, Resistance games, 4 Sly Cooper games and The Puppeteer

I remember when I was a kid and I would have to go into the video rental store to get my games resurfaced it was a dollar 99 for PlayStation games and ninety-nine cents for GameCube.

Looks like those discs where the ones that came in a slim bundle they only had card board sleeves.

Matty it break my heart to see you picking up games in such poor condition. There is a local game store I got to that prides them self on selling quality. They don't even put stickers on the boxes! They buy and sell out of state if you want to look into them. They are called Video Game Plus in Oklahoma City.

GameStop stickers aren't all that bad. When I was a kid I bought Sega Bass Fishing solely because the sticker was placed over the letter B and it said Sega Ass Fishing.

A lot of them don't come from warehouses they come from in store where people traded them in. A lot of them also went from a store where they were traded in, to a warehouse.

I have a huge collection of PS3 games & they all look brand new no broken cases no scratch discs & a lot of collectors editions that I never took out of the box & funny thing is that I don’t care for it but also not interested in selling. I don’t display it it’s all nicely put away.

The Zelda Windwaker game you got from them in a few vids ago should've had the soundtrack or a soundtrack sample CD with it and didn't though.

I tend to buy digital nowadays... Haven't set foot in gamespot in like 4 years. Last game I bought was Bayonetta 2 for the WiiU which happened to be in mint condition with it's box and both games 1 & 2. Paid for it, though... it wasn't cheap. Why I don't buy physical, anymore? Well... house got robbed and they took quite a number of them. While all my digital copies... I could still play. Not to mention physical copy doesn't mean jack, anymore, being that the Patches are often bigger than what is on the disk.

100 bucks for just that? Yikes! Games have skyrocketed ridiculously.

Over here in the UK we have CEX and they do similar stuff. They've got reprinted covers and they still sell the items for the same price. I'm not paying the same for a reprinted cover haha

As I said in your previous video, other than the OG Xbox games, the rest of the games of your orders would’ve been fulfilled by various stores around your area (be it nearby city or even nearby state) that was the inventory from that store and that’s how those copies were traded in.

8:50 the rattling is likely due to a loosening/broken/near broken center button for the disc holder.

That's why I just use a CD binder I keep the boxes for art but I don't like my games in their actual case

War for Cybertron was so good man! Sunk so many hours into that multiplayer the customization for your own transformers was crazy for the time. Sucks the case is trashed but not surprising as I still have my complete in box cuz the games so good lol.

Beware the tomb raider trilogy on PS3 is up rezzed versions of the PS2 games for the first two parts. You have to own the 360 versions to get the true HD versions.

70% of the games came without a manual man a big tell is if there is printing on the inside of the case... 95% of the time that means it never came with a manual.

When dealing with old pre-owned games there's a Big chance you won't get a game manual

I loved this vid! It did trigger me a little bit because a few weeks ago I ordered a 2ds and it came in the WORST packaging. To make matters worse BOTH screens were busted. I called customer service and they just gave me a refund, they didn’t even want the system back ☠️

Can you not just take them back? Here in Australia (although we may have better consumer laws im not sure) if its not as described or if its with 7 days our EB and CEX shops u can take back, as long as it is in the condition you bought it. So if its a pic of the game case and a generic sleeve arrives or its disc only or even bad quality...you can just go back to a store and return it for refund of cost and postage. Then u just keep trying till u get a good one.

I've done a couple of these "retro" grabs from GS over the years and my best snipe was a complete Psychonauts Xbox game! 8 bucks. 90% of others were disc only lollll

I just received War For Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron in the mail. They weren't cheap, but I wanted a Transformers game collection, so I started there.

6:11 I know how disappointing it can be to get generic boxes like that, no manuals, etc, but I wouldn't blame Gamestop (I would, however, blame them for bad stickers, doubling up discs, etc, though). Instead, I'd blame other gamers and clueless parents who trade in games in that condition, who lose game boxes and let their dogs chew on things. Gamestop and other used stores generally try their best.

Just buy some empty cases and print out the artwork. Looks fine on the shelf. I'm surprised you still shop at gamestop. I haven't bought anything from them in years now.
