Isn’t it also cause by an excess of dopamine? So wouldn’t dopamine make it worse? I’m in the beginning of the story so if the story addresses that I apologize but that stuck out to me as a layman.

Same here :D. When I heard about the isolation bit I knew it was some dubious shit and the narrator is unreliable. I feel like this was a good story, portraying just how awful schizophrenia is, but idk, I feel kind of conflicted about the end of this story. Afterall, it's just another instance of "people with mental illnesses are bat shit crazy and will murder you and your children", and I'm so sick of that trope

@@Marynicole830 From what i know one of the causes is an imbalance between dopamine and serotonin? But since one of the most common medications for treating schizophrenia is a dopamine-blocker, i guees you are right

Schizophrenia is caused mainly by NMDA receptor inactivity, not so much dopamine or serotonin

@@kpickle1684 the thing in the basement is getting better at mimicking. It's something like that. Somniums picture thumbnail looks like some monster with like four eyes and wings if you scroll through. It's really good.

As someone who struggles with psychosis I was thinking about that. He mentioned being schizophrenic and said "dopamine" I got so confused. (In case anyone is confused; I watched this in a good headspace with someone I trust to reality check me lol I'm not that crazy)

I don’t know if it’s too late or if you’ve already listened to this particular story narrated by the dark somnium, but I recommend checking out his video titled “down here.” It gives a depiction of another person who has schizophrenia that is amazing! Loved that one! Nothing but love stranger!

Agreed! I was disappointed when I realized where this story was going. I’ve read way too many stories using a mentally ill killer.

I don't think the main character had schizophrenia when he was alive, maybe a psychopath with sadistic tendencies. But the schizophrenia was a part of his punishment in hell

It's tricky, he mentions if he'd been quicker with the last one he wouldn't have been caught so maybe the kids survived? But he mentions a full clip being unloaded into his chest. However the guy now in the flat above him is old and walked with a limp and is terrified screaming "not again", prosthetics? his book is thick and filled past halfway yet he doesn't feel the urge to ever read it, why wouldn't it just be a new book each time and the realisation would just come to him because it can in hell. there's more that I haven't mentioned, it certainly leaves a lot open to interpretation.

Hello. For context, I suffer with schizophrenia, since I was 15. I'm 20 now. The medication in the story is pure Dopamine, too boost dopamine. But psychosis is a + symptom of schizophrenia, (dopamine imbalance in the V.T.A witch is the primary dopamine generator organ in the brain). And is caused by too much dopamine in the brain. This results in dilusion, hallucination, paranoia, and scrambled erratic thinking & speech. Negative ( - ) symptoms in the brain (dopamine levels too low) result in low motivation, low attention span, and lack of executive functioning skills. The character in the story definitely suffers from + symptoms and would need to be on the kind medication I'm on witch is a Neuro reuptake inhibitor or true antipsychotic, to block and lower the amount of dopamine not raise it.

I highly recommend Licks From A Bear, if you like disturbing mind loopy stories. That one is...grotesque body horror though. It's painful in that loopy sorta way. I believe Dark Somnium also did I Am Nightmare? Which is also a very good one. (P sure he also did Licks From A Bear iirc.)

I’ve had nightmares where in them I’ve done something stupid like racing a hundred miles down the freeway with a chopper and a few dozen police cars after me or that dumb broad who stole a ton of stuff from me and I beat her half to death but the latter only in my dreams, in reality all I could do was file a report and block my credit and let it go.. in my dreams though I get revenge 😂 then I wake up in my bed and it actually takes me a little bit, looking around at my surroundings, put my hand on my husband’s back or shoulder, touch his face to make sure I’m there and get my heart rate too slow down. Sometimes my heart rate will set off the alarm on my iwatch. 😂 strange how the brain and body works sometimes. A few times I have been running in my dreams and I’ll wake up with my legs so sore it takes me a few minutes trying to figure out if I was like running in my sleep, not likely since my side of the bed is nearest the wall and my husband is on the side nearest the bedroom door so to actually get up I have to actually climb over him which he would never sleep through he wakes when I’m just restless to ask if I’m ok 😂 just crazy your brain can convince even your muscles that you’ve run when it was just a dream. Thankfully, most of my dreams are cool or nice and I can actually wake up fully during some dreams, get up go get water use the restroom and wash hands then get back in bed and start the dream right where I left off. I can even manipulate some of my dreams which of course never happens with nightmares but I digress. 😂 enough for the comments for now just thought I would share since I don’t even often come across those who have experienced lucid? I think you call it that? Dreams…

@@kirstenornelas881 i don’t know if you would call what i have lucid dreams, as i can’t control them, but they are certainly very vivid😅. i get what you mean about taking a few minutes to snap out of it when you wake up haha. not fun
