I love that you came back for another visit! This little documentary series has to be my favourite as the school and the man who takes care of it is just way too interesting!
I just can't get enough of Yo-chan, his home, and his coffee roasting. The more I know about him and the place where he lives, the more I understand why he loves it there. I really wish I can visit him one day. Until then I look forward to more videos with Yo-chan and his amazing home.
Everything about this place fascinates me Norm. Japan was already enough, but mixing that with coffee and locations being reclaimed by nature is just epic! Really love this content, and I hope we get to see more of Yohei and his school in the future. Thank you for another awesome video!
This whole series with Yo-chan has been great. Really puts things into perspective on remote life in Japan and how people can fit into it. Keep up the good work Norm!
When I visited, I specifically took a break between Tokyo and Nara to experience some rural bits. (And to force me to use my Japanese, lol). It was an amazing experience.
I always come to the conclusion that Toyko Lens could have an amazing Netflix show (or not even netflix, just a feature length series) because this stuff is incredible.
I do not know how are you doing it, but your videos are always making my mood better. Your storytelling skills, shots, music, the situational small jokes and your personality make the videos amazing. Sundays are my favourite and I am always looking forward to your next video. It was definitely the best 29 minutes of my week, and just made me smile. Thank you Norm.
18:43 it is a rare opportunity to be able to enjoy such beautiful view of nature in Japan. Most tourist sometimes only able to enjoy places which are popular, but that sighting is like a hidden gem. Hope to see more :)
Laughing a little too hard at the roller slide at the start. They had those here when I was a kid, so I cringed in advance before you even sat down on that. 😂 They were always a special cruelty. I think I've enjoyed all the specials with this guy, his café and his former mountain school. There's just so much beauty and character all happening at the same time.
It's so amazing how you went back to visit Yo-chan again and was able to forge a good friendship with him. It's also nice how well built the school is how well Yo-chan maintains it 👏
Norm it's so nice to see you have such a good connection with someone. I feel like this is one of the most natural videos I've ever seen you make. And I think it has everything to do with your chemistry .
Yo-Chan/Abandoned school two weeks in a row? You spoil us, Norm! That was highly enjoyable! Now the year will feel even longer until your next annual visit! Greetings from Germany!
i loved this series with Yo-chan, the whole documentary made me feel at ease. Hope to see more of you both together ! and does he have a go fund me page ?
Omg I relate so much to that moment of Yo-chan stopping to take pics even if he lives there, people always ask me why, but recording even the most mundane things everyday becomes entertaining, and as Yo-chan himself says, you can notice the change in the environment, be it urban or natural. Amazing documentary norm! atmosphere was top notch and hope that maybe soon you can go for the 3-peat on this place 😂
Barely discovered Tokyo Lens channel from the micro apartments videos and fell down a rabbit hole of watching videos. Tbh this is so cool. He lives in a school and can fulfill his own hobbies and essentially choose different rooms to live in if he wanted. This would be a sick late night cafe to just bring friends and hang out all night. Heck even being an employee at his cafe would seem cool. I really love people who repurpose old things and breathe new life into it.
I wish I Could visit he's place so peaceful, So relax and at night enjoying the stars then waking up in the morning enjoying he's sweet warm coffee. Thanks for the video again norm.
That was so wonderful! You know who would totally blend into this little mountain group? Martina, formerly of Eat Your Kimchi/Sushi fame, and now King Kogi. She is, as I’m sure you know, recently back in Japan. I could totally see her digging the coffee scene and making music with you guys! I think each of us has a special place in this world that we don’t live at, but go back time and again. This looks like it’s yours! Look forward to seeing more adventures from you in this area over the years!
There is really something about rural places, it's just so calming and relaxing compared to the urban life. This is just another wonderful video, thank you! Yo-chan is so cool, I would love to taste his coffee someday!
I was thinkin what to write for any of your videos, but one thing always come up to my mind. "Breath of fresh air" is how I see your work. Amazing stuff as always. Unfortunately I usually don't have time to watch them moment you put them out, but i savour them with some good cup of coffee. :)
Tokyo Lens videos are like umami for the eyes or sakuga for real like. They always just have this vibe about them full of wonder and adventure but also like my favourite comfy blanket.
I don't know how to put it into words, but this video made me feel the same way a relaxing sauna session hahah. Your videos are great as always and i'm so glad that I found your channel; keep up the good work!
Yo-chan is awesome ! Hope for him to keep living this life forever or as long as he is willing to. What an inspiration, maybe I will visit his cafe some time too :)
YES TO YO-CHAN! He seems like a cool guy to hangout with, nevertheless, staying at his corner of the world. Also props on your rock climbing skills, Norm 🤪
I love the idea of visiting this area and staying at the abandoned school! It looks like such an amazing place to escape to and recharge and hang out with amazing people. Yo-chan seems like such a cool person, and he really does have a great time running the abandoned school and coffee roastery. When someone loves what they're doing, it really shows through. Thanks again for bringing us along on the adventure.
Buddhist concept of mujo - observing a moment in time that will never happen again. I only spent 3 weeks in Japan, but the idea was in everything everybody did.
10:03 - same in my country, people won't take the last bite or piece, it stays there until someone could be or possibly is brave or hungry enough to ask for it.
i aspire to have a connection like that with someone, it's a beautiful thing. i admire the friendship a lot and the scenery is just absolutely amazing. i love that u can capture it so well
Little late to the party. That slide looked painful, but fun. Wonder how good it is at back massages, lol. Relatable with the whole quick catnap thing. I tend to do that too, whoops. Norm: “ What are we eating?” Yo-chan: “We’re not” Me - roasted coffee beans fumes count, right? :p Glad you had fun, was great to see Yo-chan again ^_^
You and Yo-chan are outfit repeaters 😛 Loved the clips from the night - your camera caught the details well. Also, those mountain trails must be slippery when moss is there ... kids probably slipped right off and that's why this school is abandoned now.
Those moss covered cliffs are gorgeous! this is my favorite Japan documentary channel. I've learned so much about life in Japan because of this channel and the sheer beauty you share with us. Breathtaking Thank you for taking the time and effort to making this.
I would absolutely work every day of my life there for just food and board. Its one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen! Thank you for another amazing video Norm!
I absolutely love these documentaries, I'm supposed to be studying abroad at a language school in Fukuoka but I'm stuck waiting for the borders to open due to covid. I can feel like i'm exploring Japan through these videos though!
I've ridden in one of those roller slides before, you actually ride like a boogie board or something down it so you don't get hurt... there's a hook on the sides so it doesn't topple over or get de-track/falloff the track.
Beautiful video, and what a beautiful friendship you two have. Yo-Chan is such a kind and gentle spirit. He is clearly a very humble guy with many gifts. Looking forward to many more videos together!
I remembered this was the first video I watched of yours! I'm definitely not one of the oldest watchers or newest shiny viewers, but I''m glad I stuck around to watch you continue grow Norm!
I found your channel maybe, 3 or 4 days ago and they have been amazing to watch. I'm wanted to eventually make my first trip to Japan by 2024 and I can't wait to enjoy it as much as you have. Thanks for the local eye view and a few of the rare places that have seen.
That is the thing about mountainous areas, rain tends to happen alot. But the great thing is the mist afterwards. Unless you are driving near it. That is a different atmosphere. Also the chill music played by the acoustics guitar with coffee and rain sounded like a good chill mix. Thanks again Norm for displaying another great video. And Yo-chan for sharing his life with us in this video.
You always share with us what are some of the most interesting videos I’ve ever watched in my life! This channel has brought me over five years of joy and a much better understanding of Japan and the great people that live there. And for that, I Truly Thank You. 🙏🏽
You must be a really nice person to make such kind friends and convince them to show you places and appear in your channel 😊 Everyone you meet has good vibes and an interesting story.
This is the Japan I want to see, experience, live. Thanks for providing all of us with a taste of Yo-chan and his life. Maybe some day I will be able to drop by for a visit. John Paper marbler
Living life as you wish and also taking joy in the present was my takeaway from this video. Yo-chan lives a fascinating life and it was fun to be taken along for a day.
Yo-chan’s is that one friend that everybode should have. he's got charm! I wish you can visit him again ,and maybe make a yearly video about this place. because it's never wrong to visit a friend right. Also maybe next time you bring along Okazaki-san with you and visit the onsen that yo-chan recommend
Getting clean water from a natural spring is a clear sign that Japan does more than most other places in the world to keep their environment exempt of pollution , and I find that amazing !
I really just enjoy your cinematic style. Everything is always so calming and respectful to the area you are in. I really enjoyed Yo-Chan. I hope we see him again often!
Yo Chan has a beautiful Zen kind of life with purpose and serenity . I wonder if they could make a documentary visiting various abandoned places that have been reclaimed and chat and see what they've done to make it liveable.. Thanks so much for taking the time to get to know Yo Chan. I feel relaxed now.
since you read all comment, i just realise that i always watch any other youtuber while playing music on spotify but when i watch your video i always turn it off it hits different with your choices of music love it. and i really love it when you go into the country side, and good luck with all the project you working on, ganbareee really sorry for my grammar lol
The grammar was totally fine~ Thanks so much for that kind comment The music actually takes the longest to find and edit Vids like this took about 10-20 hours just for music and audio editing So thank you!!
Wahoo long format!! More comment after the watch 👋🙌 Adventures with Norm 💜😀 Lol, I've always wanted to try one of those roller slides, but I think that'll be bruises for weeks. Thanks for the new phrase 遠慮の塊 (Enryo no katamari). As someone who loves to cook - and eat , that concept's supremely frustrating. 🤣 Ahh that honey pizza sounds amazing and rain plus roasting coffee and music = bliss. When Japan reopens, Shikoku vs The Alps/Sea of Japan is my top trip map battle. I am 100% there for that mountain shrine 😲.
Yo-chan just seems like an ultimate chill guy. Roast some beans, make some food, play a little music......and just be. The kind of person that most people would love to have as a friend. I have to admit, I do kind of envy his lifestyle. In the mountains, away from the fast paced grind of the city, and just able to do what he loves, for a living. And Norm, you are an adult! You are well within you rights to screw about on a playground when no one else is there. I do the same thing.
This is such a nice lifestyle! I love it when people can do what they love doing. Myself I have been working jobs that I really hated until recently, and now its just a joy to wake up.
The mountain views are absolutely breathtaking. Can only imagine how lovely it would be to wake up to that sight each day trough all seasons, see the mist enveloped mountains hear the cicada and smell the fresh air and roasted coffee.
