Dr. Ong just mentioned so many wrongs in this interview. 1. Why MP need to be paid pension when they served 2 full terms? - What Security? You cannot go work other job after retire from political scene? MP, ADUN or any other civil servants who just receive EPF like private sector workers. 2. Civil servants can't be sacked. - no wonder so many deadwoods in our civil service. 3. Implementation in our government system - exact reason why FDI chooses Singapore, their government has a clear direction, which makes them more efficient, and less useless redtapes.
I agree with your comment. If the MP unable to find other job. Clearly he/she is not capable, incompetence, and lack of skillset. Elect these idiot as MP clearly is a joke and big mistake. And we are wasting our tax money to feed these idiot.
Britain colonial system, same to India. Too many civil servant created corruption (bureaucracy) inefficient and use A I to recruit civil servant will be fair and accurate ( no bias in race and religions and gender and ages ). Africa also facing this issue of colonial system in government departments. As you knew when British in Malaya,The system itself is one side. Why!They ensure Englishman shall not be fire in government positions and white supremacy minded.
i agree with point number 1 - it is not my responsibility to ensure your career choices. What about me then? for point number 2, yes they can be, if the case is big enough, but mostly they get transferred here and there, they can be terminated under law: An officer can be terminated from service under Regulations 46 and 47(1), Public Officers (Appointment, Promotion and Termination of Service) Regulations 2005
Talk is cheap. You can talk until the pigs fly when you're not in the hot seat. When you're parachuted into the real situation only you know the real constraint and limitations
The doctor did a good job in explaining what many citizens are unaware of the challenges faced in implementing the various measures/policies. Game of Taichi. Good informative video.
Yeah, i find it ridiculous as well. As a normal person, if we lose a job, by hook or crook we have to find another job or we will die. If MP cannot find job, then join the gig economy like grab, lalamove, foodpanda. Then they know the feeling of insecurities and fear that a lot of us normal folks face.
@@limfungjan1657 Exactly! 100% sokong! At best, outgoing MPs should get something equivalent to private sector VSS (1 year service = 1 - 1.5 months salary)... certainly not lifetime pension. Those should ONLY be reserved for the real public sector employees, and if you ask me limited to certain grades and last drawn salary levels only.
yes that was a lame excuse/reason. As an MP you get to connect to alot of big companies, almost anyone. With these connections, dont tell me he cant find a single job that has sufficient salary to survive as a normal citizen. Unless he meant as no safety net is "cant find a job that is high pay and high life standard as before". I get it he didnt want to upset the civil servants and buddy politicians, which was why his answers/explanations are very generic and empty talks.
Peter has came so far scaling this channel and his business up. I still remember when he was telling me he downscaled his car to make sure he has enough of a runway to get this up. It's been almost 5 years since. Safe to say he has made it. Congratz bro, really proud of you. Keep this up!
I’d say this kind of interview is great because We as a taxpayers should have known what we paying for.. and we need this quality ppl like Kian Ming as MP.
Always enjoy listening to Dr Ong and Peter...regarding the Digital ID, if you have a Singaporean friend, ask politely to see their "singpass" and you will be impressed. Everything is in there. Their health record, their financial record, their retirement record. Their "special bonus" from the country, driving license, passport and many more...
Good pensions will encourage politicians not to overstay too long on their job? You must be kidding me or you are talking about other country which is NOT Malaysia. As a Malaysian politician, they want BOTH high pay pentions and keep getting high pay salaries/pearks. Had high hope on this interview. The host also avoided to go deeper into issues that Mr Ong will have hard time to answer. Wasted my time. Damn, should have watch some movies instead Next time please do a favour mention in the title that it will be just some kopi table cakap cakap in similar interviews
Those contents should go in more deeper. His answer is safe playing. 1)x agree digital ID. He didnt mention on privacy leakage problem. M'sia gov cannot guarantee on the safety concern, so dont compared wif S'pore. They has strict law & can implement well. 2) Dr has mention instead of cutting down civil servants, can allocate them in diff position. But by implementing digitalization doesn't help cutting gov expenditure at all, ppl r paying twice on officers wages & digitalization implementation juz for gov good image ??( N tat is not consider efficiency of gov !! 国王的新衣,要大家一起装傻吗?) 3) about the MP pension, the issue is not transparent at all. Should ask MP Syed Saddiq on details. 4) about finance minister daily task, dont he think tats sth should be trimmed? it's not only about deputy finance ministers' power but fairness + efficiency+ effectiveness (in long term). 5) MP's KPI are set by themselves. I dont get the term 'fair' saying by Dr. Who will review their KPI? at the end of the day , ppl r just listening. Sports is diff story, ppl has emotional + lost rational when competition is happening. No one will ignore YB Hannah Yeo' s work hard attitude + her contribution. 6) If MP refuse to retire bcos of limit on job employment available after they hv retired. It's not the reason for ppl to agree on pension as the solution. Young candidates will not benefit at o bcos those old ppl after holding power+ support, nth will chg their mind to retire, even thru at the age of late 80-90++. Y those ppl (famous politicians) wan retired? mostly is they know situation is not sides them anymore.
Wa! Such a huge civil servant, why as government could not see the main issue here! I do not think they do not know.do not be blind eyes. Too many mouths to feed, making government buzy but not effective in service to general public. Every government is challenging (it supposed to be), Malaysia has spending so much money to Digitize the government departments (Digitize to reduce work load and works force as well). Huge benefits to be Digitize due to long term saving in money and accuracy in data collection, and fast delivery of government initiative to general public. Civil servant in Malaysia shall down size immediate 20 %, subsequent years 15% and 20%.
You got it backwards. Every 18 Malaysian, 1 works in the Civil Service. In comparison to UK, every 118 British, 1 works in the Civil Service. My point is, Malaysia has far too much Civil Servant.@@einstein9901
Interested to know what’s the teenager/ youth’s sentiment on the country / government - can put a form 5 student or uni student & MP together in a conversation?
It’s always good to have a financial plan. I work with a licensed planner and fixed-income strategist in LA that helps me sort out these plans of investments
Managing money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times while others tend to avoid them. Well, at least my advisor does too, jokingly.
My portfolio is made up of dividend etf’s, dividend stocks, growth stocks, it allows a bit more freedom in specific areas with help of an advisor CHRIS RYAN STEWART who I’ve been in touch with over the years before buying any stocks and it’s been working perfectly for me.
I am a dividend investor for the most part but I have bought Tesla stock a couple of times. However I have bought Tesla stock again and will hold for the long haul this time.
Hi u try using the digital portal to apply for pass port. I tried and it was a bad experience. End up.. have to fall back to the old ways of spending half a day there.
The reason provided for a high pension is unjustifiable. Given all our future career is not guaranteed (as changes in technologies may make us obsolete), I don't see why MP should have a guaranteed high pension. Please be realistic and join the rakyat
In term of the national digital ID perspective, it is a great way and initiative for the Rakyats to utilise it, when we all want to apply government permits, banks loans or checking school results. It is time saving, less human errors and touch points, of course, minimising the bureaucracy and corruption.
Your personal Data with your family members data will be leaking from government departments and sold to marketeer or worse to scammer. Bankers and scammer would keep calling you and your family members for offering loan and gifts that you won, required you to pay stamp duty and other cost in order to redeem it. Currently ( old government system) departments system are very (corruption system ) easy to attack due to incompetence consultant engaged by previous government.and difficulty to user (no user friendly). Wait for AI version to be implement by government for today. Easy, accurate, fast, and user friendly and good personal security Data control.
To be real here, a lot of excuses packaged in nice sounding words. At the risk of sounding brash, as corporate guy working as a pm in SG. These problems are not new, public service should learn from the private sector. The superpower of public sector is that you are not beholden to ultimately make profit, but can elevate service, quality, and stakeholder (citizens) wellbeing above the drive for profit. From this talk, the problems are basically: • one employee many boses. • no clear scope definition, so no clear kpi, hence no clear person in charge to take responsibility. Ping pong all day. • why is the finance minister signing 3 feet of papers? Why must the PM be the finance minister? No wonder no leadership in this country if those two donkey jobs need to be handled by a single head of state. National digitization initiative is good, but just take good parts from countries 40 years ahead of us, dont need to reinvent the wheel. More an effort in localization to local needs, rather than inventing and deploying. Still, it's a good talk and appreciate the thoughts and inputs from an experienced politician. Cheers guys.
Mp’s are overpaid and lotsa bs especially when they came together and agree to proposal to increase their salary like last time 😂 bile tang gaji derang bukan main sume setuju bawak usul. Bila tang rakyat, mcm2 alasan, kos tgi la, bisnes lingkup la, nenek blh mati la, anjing sakit la bla bla bla bla
u want to serve the people n government n want name n money right? so no need la pensions. come on. how many ex mp's we see freakin rich using their "cable" n name for business.
More of this sort of programmes should be on National TV. I hope the minister in charge realized that getting important information to the public would help them understand the challenges of the Gov. better and thus reduce/avoid unnecessary politiking and support government initiatives to improve the lives of the people. This interview actually clarified Syed Saddiq's criticism of the pension policy of MPs which most people assume as fact.
The only problem with that budget allocation is its only more on developing Malaya. It's never about Malaysia because Sabah/Sarawak are always far behind interm of development
That had been the case for the last 50 years give or take and in addition of with the plundering of nation’s wealth and all. Fortunately, scenario’s improving and be aware of the increase of allocation development budget to Borneo region in current days.
I'm celebrating a $32k stock portfolio today. I started this journey with $4000 have invested on time and also with the right tearn now have time for my family and the life ahead of me

A change is needed here which will give a lesson in every time and period! This is how Will reduce the poverty, suffer of the unprivileged people! People stop being afraid of what could go wrong and think of what could go right. At least let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.
Public is paying the tax and what MP responsibility talk much but not education type but not work it out and DONE for the LIFE better than public a lot
Last time PH brought down the government in 2018 one key factor is GST. I actually supported GST. But not corruption. So the focus should have been fight corruption. Now want to implement GST. I still support it. Best way forward. So why cannot do? Cos u trapped yourself. So just bite the bullet. U got 4 years more. Do well get rid of corruption and be a fair and effective government. 60 years people like me waited. Cukup d. Move your asses
For government staffs shall pay well to them if only they are achieve the real life KPI . This apply to every minister with huge bonuses, if evey programming implemented accordingly and every targeted achieved the benefits and generated positive impact. Civil servant shall be able to fire if they do not performing to the KPI as compare to private banking sector. Colonial system in civil servant (how bad the British system is doing now, nothing to be proud of by Britain) is bad and obsolete,no performing in general public service.
Interestingly, who sets the KPIs, who sets the KP!s of ministers and how is it evaluated, subsequently. By the way, who sets the KPI of the Prime Minister?
This is just a fallacy. In many instances and neighboring countries,, although the Minister or MP is paid excessively by normal standards and yet there is corruption. How come? Greed is the underlying factor and not so much is one's salary.
