You are one of the few people who have ever slept on this boat. I bet there is a handful of civilians who have had the privilege, let alone navy personnel. That has to be something amazing to cherish. Thanks for the tour, Gemma. Brilliant job.

Thanks for sharing your tour of the Medusa. Very interesting to compare what we all recognize from Sarinda and what's original vs there from the refit. Can't wait to see if that big block is above the panels in the aft.

What a rare treat that was, for sure. It has to be encouraging to see the same type of construction used on Sarinda, and to know that you are doing everything right and proper. Since your boat had already been converted into a yaght, it would be impractical to return her back into a warship.

There is very little use for a 1943 warship at the moment. Ships are adapted for the current use all the time. Very wise not to go all historic. But I have to admit the ML1387 is a treasure!

Thanks, Gemma, for the well made video with direct comparisons between Medusa and Sarinda. While there was a previous video featuring Medusa going out for a day trip, the demonstration of "this is the radio room, and this is what it looks like on Sarinda" was an excellent way to visualize what was modified on Sarinda. I recognized web frames, beam shelf, and metal knees. I think you probably had your workout for the week climbing up and down the vertical ladders. That would definitely be a poor layout for what's intended to be a yacht. The wardroom looked really cozy! But the fire wasn't an actual wood fire, was it? One question you didn't answer was were the engines on Sarinda the originals, modified with modern controls, or new, different ones? They all seemed like 6-cylinder inline but could have been a different make/model?
@ShipHappensUK
@ShipHappensUK 4 месяца назад
Sarinda would of had the same engines as Medusa, but her cat engines were fitted in the 80s
@markhorrell9213

It would have been a cheaper option. More practical too. I wonder how the cat engines would rate horsepower wise and hull speed compared to the Gardner's though?

Well you know, the ship that you have could have some of the features of the Medusa, certainly not all. That is use what you can so that it has some retro things so that it looks like the Medusa in many ways and actually looks like it could have been a war ship. Cheers!

OMG - i hope you got a pass to come this far south Gemma - nice guns by the way, always thought your biceps were bigger than Simon's great stay about Mudusa, and the tour was excellent to see the comparisons between the two boats, certainly helps bring Franks Capstick's diaries to life, and it be nice to try and source some similar brass light switches to put into Sarinda, have a chat with Leo on Sampson Boat builders, he would be a good source for that kind of thing, and i was watching a couple in Tazmania, who sourced many fabulous brass fittings online - i forget where but there are plenty to find - i notice Mudusa has a lot more circular portholes that rectangular compared to yours

What a lovely boat. I used to spend nearly every weekend on an ex Royal Navy Fleet Tender berthed in Grimsby Docks. To be fair, they are quite comfortable, I used to use the Captain's cabin when I was there on my own. There is something quite nice about being in a commercial dock late at night with all the lights and the gentle lapping of the water against the hull. The only downside was when the huge car carriers come in or go out at 3am, they make quite a racket when only 2m away from your ship.

Most funny for me was when you where below the gun setup and I was wondering what all the stuff in the celling was and right away you told it .. I do agree your staircases are a lot easier, specially for the restauration. Its a pity on one hand you cant return it back to the 1943 status, but on the other hand there is already the medusa, and its nice to compare the 2 ships. Great video!
