I can’t stand gyms… I never could… I just enjoy running and walking and I’ve decided I’m going to be okay with that. I’m going to start doing a few home work outs for strength but I won’t be forcing myself to have a gym membership.

That is a good idea, and sometimes less pressure makes it easier to stick too.

I’m really grateful for your honesty. It’s even better in my mind because you’re a coach and have still had struggles. Do you find it makes you feel more compassionate for clients who struggle? Glad to see content again. Hoping it’s more often in 2022! Be well!

of course, the compassion for me was always there since even before I started coaching people I struggled so much with binge eating/yo-yo dieting - but now I can definitely feel for the workout side of that as well! have some videos I recorded already for the upcoming weeks!

Thanks for this! Going through the same thing right now, and the identity piece you mentioned is for sure the toughest part. Really enjoyed your perspective!

It’s a tough thing to go through but I found there was a huge lesson needing to be learned that couldn’t be discovered otherwise, wishing you the best!

@Cass DiGiovanni amen to that! The low points are always an opportunity to learn, grow and evolve. Thank you! Glad it turned into such a positive for you! I'm looking forward to exploring and getting my movement mojo back 😬

This is so interesting. I guess I have an ectomorph body type because if I take time off I lose so much strength and power, but don't really gain weight. If I take time off, my endurance will wane, but comes back rather quickly. I'm a cyclist and runner who really needs to find the motivation to strength train, lol.

Just to give a contrast story and maybe a bit of inspiration, when lockdowns happened I'd been gyming consistently for years and though geez what am I gonna do. Looking back what I did was switched (had no other easy option) to outdoor bodyweight workouts plus kept up HIIT sprints during those times. 4 months later when gyms reopened I found I was almost back to the same strength etc within 2-3 weeks. Consistency of habit really REALLY goes along way, both physically and mentally. At the time ofc other stuff became difficult too (job etc) but applying the same mindset (maintain habits at almost all cost even if it means compromise in what that entails specifically) and you're more likely to weather whatever storm life throws your way. A little feast and famine doesn't hurt though (e.g. recovery during sickness, etc). There's always going to be downtimes and setbacks towards any meaningful goals / habits.

muscle memory is underrated too. especially once you've been working out consistently for several years, recovering from breaks becomes way speedier.

I have same experience to you. Before Covid, gym was my favorite place to go, it's like a happiness factory. But after the pandemic, I hate for being gathered in public place, and I think it just an disgusting place to share sweat and air with others

As long as you show up & try you are guaranteed results even if it takes along time..but the moment you quit you are guaranteed absolutely no results, how will you ever find out ? I guess you will never know hunh ?

Did you feel like this training 'funk' made it harder to deliver the same passion through your business and into your clients? I had a 2 year slump starting exactly the same time as you and for very similar reasons. (And a similar method got me out of the funk too) It really impacted my own passion as a coach/personal trainer to my own clients. I found it so hard to produce anything for online training and pushing my fitness business further.

for me it was more so creating the content that felt harder since I wasn't feeling myself because creating content takes a lot of energy - coaching was still fine for me because I do enjoy coaching people through struggles (even if I was struggling myself) and want my clients to know that even their coach goes through it sometimes too :)

@@CassDiGiovanni Yes that's exactly what I experienced. When I still saw my clients it was always great and we all got through it really well. But as you say the content production was hard. For me it nosedived. Yeah it's unrealistic to say we're always gonna be on our game. It's ok to go through these up and down cycles. Thank you for coming back to me
