Hi! I'm Huy Duong
In the morning I harvest Boehmeria nivea in the garden and grilled corn.
Then I knit a chicken cage to hold the chicks and then went into the woods to trap the hen. I successfully trapped the hens, they are reunited. I returned home when it was already dark.
I hope I can successfully tame the wild chickens.
Have fun watching the video!

Hi everybody! In the previous video there were a lot of comments recommending me to roof the house with clay bricks. Currently I have collected almost all wooden planks. What should I do? Should I roof my house with wooden planks anymore?

If you are already mostly set up for wood please continue then when/if the wood is no good anymore you can do clay. this will be a good example of the durability of diffrent roofs.

For the chickens: you want to give them a good run area that's well protected, something like a 6ft x 6ft area. Since you don't have access to netting, you could weave a bamboo cover for the top, it just needs to be tight enough to stop predators from getting in and them getting out. Then you need a well covered chicken coop with a closable door to house them at night / bad weather. If you put down cut grasses, etc. on the bottom of the chicken coop it'll make it easier to clean it out and you can add the old grass and chicken poop to a composting bin.
@szeddezs
@szeddezs Год назад
Great rundown! It would be crazy if he could make all that as a mobile coop and fence that he can move across his farmland, fertilize the fields in rotation.
@cursedxistence
@cursedxistence Год назад
@@szeddezs actually he could build a raised chicken coop and just use two logs as skids so it could be moved and then the fencing could either be done in sections or just have a few posts that actually go into the ground. That would make it easier to move.
@dickhugh970
@dickhugh970 Год назад
@@cursedxistence that's the best idea, since he's got rats as a predator the raised coop is best, I've got about 30 birds, ducks & chickens, I have to deal with North American predators, but rats/mice will be attracted to chicks, not so much pullets and full grown birds. Also avoiding excess grain/feed on the ground will help. Don't let the chickens in your garden, they will eat your food or dig up plants. Get ducks for gardens.

Yes...spend time with them. We had about 60 layers and managed to get our hands on an old, non road worthy semi trailer. We cut a hole in the side, and converted it to a chicken coop. (Eventually put rabbits in there too!). Built a ramp to go up to the hole (which we covered with a doggie door) and eventually the chickens figured out that when it was dusk...it was time to go in. They'd go marching up that ramp one-by-one every single night. No wrangling required. There was a bit of ruckus if we didn't get out there and open that doggie door first thing in the morning, however! :)

Big tip: cook the corn over the coals with the leaves still on, it will steam the corn inside, it the easiest and best way to cook corn. Great job on the garden, corn grown by hand is the best! I grow my own too. Very satisfactory. Also great job on the mother hen and chicks, they look very healthy, so cute!

That's how we do it! There's a guy who sells corn on the cob and that's how he cooks it. Much better than boiling! (Most people don't understand that it only takes 3 minutes to cook corn on the cob that way.) I lived in Nebraska for awhile. There's nothing like picking your own sweet corn and cooking it right there. Yummy!😸👍🌽🌽🌽

So happy for the mother hen and chicks to be reunited! Domesticating the mother will take more time because she was wild, the chicks already look more used to you. It will be easier with them. Build them a safe fenced in area (with a top to be safe from predators) with a nice hen house for nesting and getting out of the weather. Food is your friend when taming. Like banging the gong for feeding the fish, make a sound to call to the chickens when you feed them, so they become familiar with you. In the very near future, you would be excited to have needles and thread, hammer and nails, even a measuring tape or handsaw , shovel or knife. 30 years ago I was teaching my students gardening and eating wild, edible plants, making maple syrup, camping and snowshoeing, wintercamping. Unless you learned that from natural-living parents, you might consider preparing yourself to live free of ATMs, cellphones, video games and TV because the technology we are so dependent on will all have to be re-invented as well as the rest of our civilization. What is already unfolding is a recurring micronova of our sun, that's why it's so white at noon. Only happens every 12,000 years. Last time that happened was about 12,000 years ago. I hope our amazing teacher of primitive skills can safely leave the jungles of Southeast Asia because the that will be the new Arctic Circle. Even herds of elephants are migrating to safety of higher ground to avoid the massive floods, and the new Ice Age, and much more. The Apocalypse is for real but most of those who are prepared could survive. It was a surprise for me, too. I wrote Quantum Dreaming--A Train Is on the Track to help get people ready for what is already starting to show up. The elephants seem to know what's coming.

I knew you could do it! Good job on catching the mother. I really loved how you showed the process on how to make rope from hemp and the skill you showed in separating the bamboo into smaller and smaller strands was really masterful and cool to watch. As for the cage for the Hen and chicks, my advice would be to create a woven enclosure that's big enough for you to stand and walk around in so it can be easily cleaned and have a second but smaller "building" (hen house) only needs to be 4x4 feet wide and 4-5 feet tall as you'll want to be able to get into it to clean it. This creates a safe area for the hen and chicks to be safe at night and a place for you to feed if you don't want to monitor them during the taming process, as you may be busy .

Chickens are a tough one to tame. It usually takes a couple generations. I eventually got mine to come to me when I got home. They knew my car. Feed them at the same times every day. The quickest way to tame your chicks is to get them to associate you and your hands with food.
@martinbowers6852
@martinbowers6852 Год назад
I have found that chickens thrive best either loose or in a movable enclosure. I don’t think letting them run loose is ideal in your situation so I would recommend a small coop you can move by hand that gives them a place to roost that is up off the ground and covered to give them shelter from rain. This would be paired with some type of fence to keep predators out and keep the chickens in the spot you want them. The cage you were keeping the chicks in would be sufficient with a few modifications. Put a floor in it so it forms a complete basket and maybe poke some sticks through about 3-4” from the bottom for them to roost on. As for your fence you could weave rectangular bamboo panels that you tie together with string each time you move them and if it is high enough, 3-4 feet or so, you don’t have to cover the whole thing but if you have lots of hawks or owls then I might do it anyway. After you have the requisite materials for your pen you set it up wherever you want them and move them every few days. The more often you move them the smaller the enclosure can be. And as for locations might I recommend non productive areas of your garden so they can eat the pests and fertilize the soil a bit.

Building a simple chicken coop is easy. How ever many hens you have, build x2 as many nesting boxes, if you’re going for eggs. For meat birds, give them room to roam and eat and feed them PLENTY. Free roaming chickens will help keep the insects and rodents under control, too. They’ll roost at night, so a perch above ground, even just a few cm will work. Shade is important, as is a dry coop to keep disease under control. Might help to have a bamboo mat underneath the coop to clean it out easily and harvest the manure for fertilizing your crops.
@anicetapreciosaelechobagun9082
Pls sir PS, the manure might be a source of ecoli bacteria in your garden. I d rather suggest that animals be prevented to roam in your organic garden. If you make fertilizer out of manure it should be treated chemically which is.the end of your beautiful vegetable garden.goodluck still you win hearts for asking suggestions. Humble guy.

For me, I have found calmly, quietly talking to animals helps domesticate them. Make them feel safe around you, no sudden or loud movements. Chickens will come home to roost in the same place every night. Once they are used to you, and found a safe place with food and water. They will stick around close. If you have predators you may want to make a secured roost for night time. During the day you will have them all over your place, around you easy to protect. Personally I would not cage them during the day after they are used to you. Good lick, I hope you have good success.

Mother hen can have a place to lay eggs as well as the future grown hens from chicks. Of course a feeding and water trough will be needed. Hens will start to lay eggs in about 20 weeks. Good luck with your chickens. They are rewarding with eggs and meat. Be blessed with good health and peace. 😊🇺🇸

45:38 tip for the fish, you can force water through their gills by holding onto them and moving them through the water. this pushes the water through their gills and oxygenates their blood so they can regain consciousness 49:10 as for domesticating animals, it will take a long time, years. animals themselves are tamed and trained, but each generation if you allow the nicest and calmest to breed and cull the rest, it should take between 5 and 10 generations to notice a significant difference. A Russian scientist, Dr. Dmitri Belyaev, successfully domesticated foxes, creating the silver fox. It took over 50 years and about 40 generations to actually have them be truly domesticated though, so unless you plan to build a clan the best you'll be able to do is hand train the chicks to be calm and nice around you.

Native Americans planted beans and squash with their corn. They called them "The Three Sisters". The effort to farm needed simple fixes as the Indians learned to farm. This method makes the cleared land more efficient and maximizes the lands use. What country this video is being filmed in? I saw yams and peanuts are wild in that area so I am assuming it is in the southern hemisphere. The Three Sisters can be substituted if the additional plants enjoy the company and need the same water/light/food. Here is how the Indians did it... Sow the seed eight inches apart in a 3-foot diameter circle on top of the bed. Once the cornstalks are 6 to 8 inches tall, plant the bean and squash seeds. The bean seeds go inside the circle of corn, with one seed planted about 3 inches from each cornstalk. I love this series and hope the very best for this man and those doing the filming. You know, some of these types of videos it is obvious and understandable that the work is being done by many people, not just the single person. I get the feeling that for the most part, this very smart and capable man is actually doing it all! For those who give their best everyday, I wish their lives to be exactly how they dream.

Taming wild chickens might be very different than domesticated ones. But in my experience with domesticated chickens it's as easy as having a nice enclosure, feeding them and spending them with them. Eventually they will stay around the house even if you release them because they know you feed them. Making them cuddly, so you can pick them up and such, is a bit harder. You'd have to spend a lot of time with them, every day. And let them get used to being touched.

Try a lightweight “chook tractor” made from bamboo and design some wheels from solid timber to move it around. They process the ground and when you move the “chook tractor” it will be ready for planting and seeds once turned over. Chooks are fun and economical birds to have as friends.

Soak the whole corn with its husk in water for a bit, then put on the coals to steam and cook in its covering. the silk will come right off and the corn will be sweet and juicy. Give the corn cobs to the chickens to pick from!

Great job on catching the hen. I own and raised chicks from eggs and have roosters, hens, and chicks as of right now. You’re doing great they will eventually get to know you and won’t be scared of you. You will be able to let them roam around freely as long as you keep them fed and happy and have a place for them to roost at night, chickens love chicken coops bc they feel safe away from predators at night that should be your next project for the chickens. Love what you’re doing very educational!

Yes my wife & I have, the hens are notorious for not wanting to be tamed but when you have them from chicks they're pretty easy & food is the common denominator. It certainly looks to me like you are doing everything right quite naturally👍

I have had chickens. Give them a good sized pen. Keep it clean. They need access to clean water. Give them your fresh corn so they grow fast. You can give them dried food if it's ground up but rice is not enough. They need more fresh food to forage on and insects. They will take the leaves off of everything in their pen so make it easy to move so you can keep them on fresh plants, always. They are good at eating weeds, so use them in your garden! Look up videos for chicken tractors. Be kind and make sure they have a good life.

feeding the mother and chicks together will ensure them to bond to you and see you as a non threat, and the food source. also the corn waste is good for your feathered family, oh and chickens will eat the dead fish too. they need protein too. also you have the wooden planks use them perhaps for the out buildings if the main house is to get clay tile for the roofing. wish you all the best and thank you for adding in the communications in your videos. thank you stay safe.

The tip is to make a very wide place with a very high fence and strong enough to contain the chickens, that is, build a chicken coop.

The best thing you can do for an animal to trust you is to be around when it eats, that way it will think you being around is a good thing, as you are the one who brings food

you should try boiling the corn. if you could make butter, butter the corn. dehydrate the corn stalk, ground it and make corn startch, dry the corn, and stalk, and grind it to make corn meal.

You don't "knit" the chicken cage, you "weave" it. Apparently, you weave very nicely! It's a great looking cage.

Very cool. I grew up with chickens. My mom sold the eggs to help supplement the household. Be patient is the only advice I can give you, and don't give the chickens to much rice. It swells up in their craw and it could harm them. They would do better on cracked corn mixture. Chopped veggies, and greens and some of those grub worms you dig up from time to time. Mostly what you eat. That poor fish would be a good source of vitamins maybe. Our chickens ate everything. We had 150+ at one time and lots of chicken dinners. If one of the roosters showed any aggression, my dad would take him to the back of the coop. Rooster noodle dinner that night. To this day some of my siblings can't stand chicken or eggs in any way shape or form. I myself love it. Bring it on. I have 5 brothers and 3 sisters in case you were wondering. We just had them in a coop (chickens not brothers and sisters, although; some of them should have been in a cage, but that's another story.) made out of wood, but you could knit big panels of bamboo and create a nice chicken area. Once the chickens get used to being there, they will come and go from the coop area on their own. You can open the door to the coop in the morning and they will come out to graze and scratch, then when evening is near they will go back into the coop for bed and you can shut them in for safety at night. Until that day though you need to confine them. They will need a roost for sleeping on and for safety. They like to be up off the ground when sleeping. When they are old enough the hens will need a nest box off the ground for laying eggs. I'm so happy for you. They are beautiful chickens, and I wish you all the luck in the world. Oh and also they need plenty of fresh water, but you have that covered. They are a blast to watch doing their chicken thing.

Build an 8x8 roofed pen for them. You will need a door as well to lock them in at night. Also a coop for shelter. Make SURE the the walls cannot be climbed. Many predators will climb the walls and get in that way.
