I Suck at Making Friends

I spent SO long trying to make friends.... like I would literally just ask ‘will you be my friend’ and I failed at that until one day I was avoiding all the people by hiding behind a tree and being lonely and one girl said ‘hey get out from behind that tree you weirdo!’ and now we’re best friends :D

as a homeschooler, i wholeheartedly agree with the description. I like my education but it sure is more difficult to meet new ppl. making friends is a piece of cake in school, don't waste it.

Statistically, most people spend most of their time thinking about themselves. Even if you did completely embarrass yourself, and even if they did notice, they still don't care and will forget about it promptly unless you are already friends or siblings. Take comfort in the knowledge that no one is paying any attention to you 90% of the time.

It's okay, TimTom. Many people suck at making friends. Many others suck at friends. I know I for one suck friends. We all go through similar ordeals.

In all honesty, I can say with confidence that I have never gone up to somebody and asked if they wanted to be my friend. Usually I would get friends by just waiting for somebody to talk to be, and one day kids did start talking to me. Ever since I have been less shy. I still have social anxiety and 100% agree with him still

This made me think of how social environment can have a big impact of social skills, for example for my last year of I think elementary school (don't know the school system translate, about age 11 to 12 ) I went to a special ed school while it was not necessary and this impacted my social skills extremely, nothing wrong with those kids but if you're around them 7 hours (and I'm talking severe adhd, autism, down syndrome and other things) and the teacher treat you as less capable you really start to doubt yourself and then you start to talk less and less to people and then you start to isolated yourself cuz you feel inferior and then you need a year of psychologist appointments and then another 2 years of middle school ( age 13 to 15) to come out your shell and even then your social skills are still under developed, so yeah just know you have to try to get good at social things

I was real quite at high school. I was awkward and loved tech. I made 3 friends in the first year, the first vanished (like GONE!) The second moved away, and the 3rd started driftin away, to a new group. I didnt make propper friends till the final years. We played dnd, played games and hanged out. It took awhile but i did it, i also apparently became popular during those years.....

I had a couple friends as a kid. Children are just more open to new experiences. Making adult friends is super hard since everyone is on a different schedule and have trauma from past friendships. I literally havent made a single new friend since I left high school like 6 years ago.

This is why you are my favorite youtuber. You are so relatable and so entertaining and funny at the same time.

As a guy with a strong social anxiety I can agree to every single second of this video, last year I moved homes and it was my first year in a new school and someone from another class turned out to be my neighbour next door so we usually go to and from school in the same way which is kinda long specially when you're alone and not talking to anyone, and still yet I haven't figured out a way to start a conversation or talk with him.

Tips on how to make friends (On a bus or public transportations) Start by starting a conversation about your favourite topics (example:radios) and sometimes ask where their destination is. Or ask for their opinion on your topic! Talking about jokes too can intrest them in joining your topic

Ahh this is so relatable! Someone having anxiety and being a pure introvert at heart, it was super hard for me to make friends. I usually was awkward and embarrassed when it came to interacting with someone.

I find making friends super hard. Like I was hated in school so I never learned to make friends so now that I am an adult I have like no idea. Lucky for me my husband already had friends from high school so I squeezed myself in there... (really he felt bad because they made a D&D group and he knew how much I loved D&D so once they did the 'Wife's can join' he came running home to tell me. Now they consider me a friend). Something weird about me is like I am happy to talk to a random person in like a long line or something as if we are friends and I will even think about how I totally want to hang out with this person, but once we reach our destination I get too nervous and start to think "Nah, she probably only talked to me because she felt like she had to" "I bet she hated talking to me" so I just shut up and never see them again.

Its actually kinda funny that this came out at this time when I had a terrible social anxiety relapse. I spend a few days hating being around some of my best friends bc it felt like every time I said something, I was being judged because people would give me those looks. I honestly don't think I was being that irrational until I locked myself in the bathroom bc I was so sick of one person. And so I set out to just...find a new friend. No sh-t, I was like, Imma find me a new and true bestie so I can feel better about myself. It's going great, guys. I started talking to my brother's friend and things are going well.

Hello! About the cat thing when they were stuck in cages it's not as cruel as you think. Cats were probably angry because there is so many new smells and new cats and new people and cats are very territorial. It's actually good that the cages were so small (as long as they could stand up and turn around in them) because cats aren't 1 bit claustrophobic. They actually like small spaces and it calms then down is stressful situations.

This video really means a lot to me. I started the next stage of my life journey at a new school where I was the only newcomer and most everyone else had been there for years. I have ADHD and probably social anxiety too, and I'm always worried that I messed up after every single conversation. My social skills aren't the best, and I feel like I've been struggling to make friends and arrange things outside of school. My hobbies aren't the most common either (drawing, animation, writing, et cetera). Knowing that people I admire (read: most anyone who can draw) struggle with the same things is pretty inspiring. Thanks for that. Edit: you call that thing at 2:50 an icecream cone-? XD

I lived in Europe and in Europe it's not that hard to make friends like on day there was a new guy in our class and no one was wanting to be his friend until I befriended him and one of my Friends

I’m a little extreme in the other direction One time I saw a guy on the subway with a Prostatic leg I thought he might not be a fan of it so I tried cheering him up by telling him he look like an epic cyborg. and looking back on it I don’t know if I did the right thing but hey what’s done is done.

People like people who take interest in them. Be the friend to others that you want then to be to you. Make an effort to properly communicate. Check on them. Show them they are valued. Just like you would want to be. You are a great person, with a great personality, great spirit, and great sense of humor. Most of these people here are interested in who you are. Take interest in them. You’ll have plenty of great friends. You’ve got this! SN: Social media is not proper communication. Pick up the phone and call more often or at least as much as text.

I am the kind of person who does not ask the question "will you be my friend?" Instead I talk to someone for a little bit every chance I get until I realize they are enjoying the conversations and then that is when I consider someone "a friend"

As someone who recently talked to some of my school friends that i havent talked to since before the pandemic started i had nothing to say to my friend and just said "i have no idea about what we should to talk about" and i just sat there feeling very akward and went home hoping id never interact with someone in real life ever again :D

Had a friend group for a few years up until probably this year things seemed nice but eventually I realized they were leaving me out always had excuses to not hangout or even call my just weren't good friends anymore so at the end of September I left and started going to a new church funny thing is at the same time everyone else in that group left to except one person but at my new church I have like 3 friends and only one and I'm more comfortable talking to idk y the other 2 are nice just don't feel as comfortable around them also it makes me anxious at that church cus there are like 4 times the amount of people and at my old church everybody knew everyone there ik very few people so when the one friend I talk to isn't there I'm super anxious and still pretty anxious when she is there but there's isn't even another church ik of that I could go to and not one that would be as small as my old church and I don't have the heart to tell the one friend I don't want to stay she's the sweetest person ik and I don't want to leave her but idk what to do :( and I wanted her to be my bff and she actually said I was her beastie once but then she said the 2 other girls were too so to me that doesn't count cus I believe u can only have one best friend cus there can't be more than 1 best you know no matter what there always be one u are closer to:( and that would never be me she's know one of them since she was little:(

Yay!! Another Tim Tom video! I always love watching your videos Tim, you and your team are incredibly talented! I really like the smooth transitions, the animation, the backgrounds (I had to keep pausing the video to look at the backgrounds because gosh some of them are stunning! Like the misty forest scene at 0:13 the cafe scene at 6:50 and so many other backgrounds, the amount of detail in each different background is really impressive) The way you tell your stories is super engaging and makes the video so fun and interesting! As a fellow victim of social anxiety I can definitely relate to a lot of what you said in the video and the amount of relief I felt on your behalf at 7:05 is immense! But seriously you and you team should be really proud of this video, your amazing! Also spoiler alert for the people who haven’t watched till the end yet: I love that ending! The climber and frog being fine has 100% just made my day :)

You know as a teenager that's also a introvert, sure it's sometimes hard to make friends. But, by using my social skills I work and my personality, I manage to have my first ever best friend (at school bc I had a cousin that's the same age as me but a few months older than me, but were best friends.) And will try to make more for my Sophomore year (got done with my freshman year.) And, If TimTom see this try to work on your social skills and conversating in order to make some cool lasting friendships, and I'll do the same to have some cool friends in the future.

Yes sometimes is hard to make friends, the thing that I do to make new friends is this steps: Step 1 scan the room and see who are in groups and and who don’t. Step 2 see that person that looks nervous or is just lonely you got it?.. great Step 3 approach them with a smile and just say hi 👋🏻 Step 4 ask them the basics,their name,age,school, or the place that you are at the moment. Step 5. Every time you see them talk to them don’t just stay standing there ask them about their day or week. Bonus: every time you see someone new in the class or the place you are going) talk to them first then you will gain new friends

when i was little i only had like 3 good friends so on the little meet the teacher night they had before i started first grade i saw this girl and she looked pretty chill so i literally grabbed her and told my mom she was my friend. we’re still best friends so my advice for making friends is to just grab random people and tell your mom you’re friends with them.

I also have social anxiety and suck talking to people.. so this one time someone wanted to be my friend and i didnt know what to say and i was just like “uh oh uhm I ye-n-a uh” and then they left, id like to think that after they left they though to themselves “i almost made a mistake”

The first real conversation I remember having with my boyfriend was when we started talking to each other about our own lives and basically traumadumped for 3 hours x"D later i was super worried I made him feel uncomfortable, but then I thought "hey, crazy idea, maybe he felt like that too?" so I texted him and reassured him that it was fine that he told me a lot. And he texted back saying he was relieved that I'd sent that text!

I feel this so hard I have autism and I act weirdly sometimes talk weirdly and I probably look kind of strange too. I can tell if people think I’m weird and a lot of people have no problem expressing it to me so at this time I just take it as a compliment. When I was younger used to be so easy but now it’s hard to make friends with people my age. Adults are surprised at how smart I am and how knowledgeable and talented I am and little kids also like me but people my own age just kind of outcast me. Eventually I just stopped caring or trying anytime they were group discussions I would avoid them simply because I didn’t know what to say I was just spend my time focusing on my studies my instruments my drawings and I was just spend time alone instead of with other people. I’ve always wanted to be cool and accepted but I don’t know when that’s going to happen. At least I’m getting slightly better so kind of proud of myself for that but hopefully sophomore year will be different and not to mention how sad being single is.

Growing up i always had a basically infinite amount of hobbies and such a wide variety genres that i was into that i was able to make friends with literally anyone. It's to much dude you dont want this curse every where you go you see someone you know. IT HAUNTS ME

lol i signed up for cheerleading hoping to make more friends because i suck at making friends, i made like 2 friends, but i hated how they make up run around a huge diamond because we were talking, even on break. i didnt like how they punished us for talking on break. im only playing on game days, i still have friends, but i cant see them more. and i suck at making friends so i was sad.

Yeah, being the "smart" kid is difficult man. I spent like a year of my life homeschooled, got super into biology, and when I was reintroduced to the world I just didn't really fit in... over the years, I got more and more knowledgeable in biology, but worse and worse at social interactions. I still don't really have any good friends, and I still love biology. I'm a happy person, and I still think science is great, but I'm human as well, and I really really just want at least one good chum to talk to, and have fun with.

I couldn’t make friends because nobody liked me, because they knew I was different. Aka autistic. That was until, the time I was in secondary school and I made at least four good friends. And I was pretty friendly with everybody. I’d never been friends or acquaintances with anyone. 😭 it made me so happy that I finally was able to make friends.
