Gaz is always going to win for everything! He is a classically trained chef. He loves his job and it shows in his recipes. The other recipes look tasty too, but no one can compete with Gaz.

I think that the eggplant would work better if it was cut into strips with a mandolin so it semi-resembled lasagna noodles.

I have seen others do that, they also fried it first, if I remember correctly, it should give better texture... They even breaded it before frying, I think, and let it cool before assembling the lasagna... I think it may have been Vincenzo’s Plate, but I’m not sure...

I would do Gazs' version if I had to bring a dish to a friends potluck or party, but if it was just me Roses' version would be enough! They all look good though!

Have you tried Candice’s? It’s pretty similar to Gaz’s and it’s to die for. Vegans AND meat eaters have loved it any time I’ve made it! It’s a cult fave in my family now 🤤😍

I bought a special baking dish for when I tried Gaz’s lasagne and it really didn’t turn out that well at all! It’s the end of June and Inferno season here so I’ll try his lasagne recipe again in the fall.

I love that Caitlin always makes something completely attainable and the ingredients are easy to find. There are not a lot of gluten free options in many places, like mine, and if there are they are from low quality flours that are no better than just regular white flour so I love having alternatives that Caitlin makes! I love Cheap Easy vegan's recipes but she also sometimes uses stuff like Gardein products which are not accessible to everybody. Gaz also does this a lot with ready made products so even though he's like a real professional chef I watch him the least because I can't ever find the stuff he uses and he doesn't offer alternatives.

@@healinggrounds19 there's a slightly diff flavour to moussaka. There's a bit of cinnamon for one in the moussaka and it's usually not so tomatoey. I think moussaka slaaaaays

I think the most correct term would be aubergine parmigiana and that is basically an aubergine moussaka :)

I made Gaz's lasagna last week and it's not terribly difficult. A mandoline will speed the prep. I used mushrooms for mince which required cooking ahead to cook the water out of them. Gaz's lasagna, is silky and delicious and the aroma, is so professional-smelling when you re-heat it. A great recipe for the holidays.

PLEASE: Bring these back! I always have so much fun watching them and seeing how varied one dish can be, even when you make them vegan! Also, let's be honest, Gaz's version is definitely the one you should be making for any non-vegan friends or family! A decadent, indulgent and truly show-stopping dish! Plus, my mum has always been making lasagne with white sauce and marinara only so its much closer to my heart! Oh, and Caitlin does have a more classic lasagne recipe, with white sauce and pasta! I really love these videos, just the idea behind them and the execution and everything that goes into them, definitely thank you for doing these. I think an awesome addition would be, after tasting different versions, to say how you might take the best parts of each dish to bring them all together. For instance for this one it seems like a great addition to the Cheap Lazy Vegan dish would be to add the bechamel from Gaz. At first I thought, 'hmmm maybe it's impolite to try and improve on another person's riff' but then I realized that's what all these recipes are anyway, different riffs on a classic. So why add in your take? Anyway thank you and awesome work!

May I ask where you're from? My Italian American family, and every other Italian American family i know makes lasagne with ricotta! Nobody I know uses bechamel

@@kellydenaples1832 then it must be an American thing since Italians make it with bechamel! I don't wanna say exactly where im from, but i am italy's neighbour and have some family living there. Edit: I would sincerely recommend everyone try the Avantgardevegan's recipe for lasagna. It's mesmerizing. I usually use tsp (textured soy protein) for the mince, but if you have something else you prefer go ahead!

In the UK, they don't have big tin cans most of the time. They have the standard which has about 400g of weight in usually. He would have been better off saying the weight in two tin cans. So you're probably right.

That thick it's closer to eggplant parm. I mean didn't the recipe come with a pic? Edit: The picture for the recipe on From my Bowl clearly shows the eggplant cut like disks. So...🤷🏾‍♀️

For gluten free lasagna, it might sound weird, but I like using full cabbage leaves. I break them off the head, then just quickly pre-steam them in the microwave for a minute or two and then use them instead of the noodles. The flavor is pretty neutral and the leftovers are great because there are no noodles there getting mushy while the rest has dried out.

One of the best vegan hacks I've ever learned is how to make my own cashew ricotta. I hate store bought vegan cheese because it always tastes off (plus it's been highly processed). Homemade cashew ricotta cheese is insanely easy to make and it tastes amazing in lasagna.

Great video, I love your tips and authentic reviews! I'm going to try out your ricotta recipe. As someone with celiac disease and grain allergies, and a partner who nearly died of a "widow maker" (as the surgeon called it) heart attack and stroke, I make my own oil-free, seasoned veggie broth out of veggie scraps for sauteing. I cut large eggplants diagonally with a mandolin, and make my own cauliflower cheese sauce (made stretchy with a bit of tapioca starch). The eggplant melts in your mouth and I don't even miss gluten free lasagna noodles anymore. I'll have to try your bechamel sauce recipe, never used that before. So glad I subscribe to all three of you!

Being Italian I'd say the second one is more like a Parmigiana :) which is basically very similar to Lasagne but made with eggplant instead of pasta :)

I feel like Caitlin’s recipe could be improved by cutting the eggplant lengthwise so that you get long strips to resemble the shape of a lasagna noodle better. Also, I feel like the opportunity to season every layer was missed by not adding at least a little oil, salt, and pepper on the eggplant before baking it. Using Rose’s tofu ricotta would help as well as Caitlin’s version seemed really dry. Also, the lentils are a good idea but I think it would help to have it be more saucey by adding some tomato sauce to it and mushing some of the lentils to create some texture variety.

About béchamel, usually you remove the veggies that flavor the milk but there no mistake leaving them in. If you end up with a lumpy sauce because the flour didn't blend perfectly, use an immersion blender to smooth it out. When I make béchamel I dump the milk all at once, and vigorously whip it with a big wire whisk, until it thickens.. It thickens fast, about one minute.

Very grateful for your respectful manner when doing comparison recipes. like how u refuse to prebake any of them, because they all must be hot and soft and fresh outa the oven AT THE SAME TIME to do a fair comparison! i wonder how the competitors on masterchef feel considering they dont use staggered starts and finish times? They all start at the same "GO!" time... & all have the same finish time when theyre told "SPOONS DOWN ~ TIMES UP!" Then the judges spend the next hour (at least i'd say) getting all the wanna-be chefs to bring up their completed meal to be sampled & critiqued. Ive seen a few episodes of Masterchef (years ago) and it seemed to me that the judges frequently raved about the first couple dishes presented; then somehow the last few meals are just never up to par? i always think to myself...HMMM.....IS IT NOT GOOD ENOUGH COS NOW ITS GONE COLD? OR IS IT COS THE JUDGES HAVE JUST EATEN A FEW BITES EACH OF 2 DOZEN OTHER MEALS... SO THEY'RE ALL FULL AS GOOGS NOW??

The one with eggplants is actually a recipe here in Italy and it's called PARMIGIANA but eggplant is fried and not baked! 🇮🇹 By the way the one from Gaz seems amazing but I would never put zucchini e egglant in it. Maybe I will try 😁

Me too. Or sometimes he just uses a store bought fake meat and it underwhelms me. Actually now that I think about it, his recipes are very visually appealing but not exactly creative

I make gaz’s lasagna at least once a month. The first time I was over whelmed a bit but once I tried it myself I realised it’s actual very simple. You should definitely give it a go

@@shitlista4283 In the book he actually says that you can just use lentils or mushrooms instead of the store-bought vegan mince. I'm guessing he's just going for convenience in this case so you don't have yet another ingredient to make from scratch. When I make this lasagna I always combine equal parts mushrooms, smoked tofu and store-bought vegan mince. And the end result is simply fantastic, you should give it a try!

@@shitlista4283 I made his lasagna with mushrooms instead of mince and it was amazing :) but yes sometimes he uses a store bought meat (or a different ready made product) and it's kind of disappointing.

I use celery seed instead of celery stalks, it's more aromatic but won't over power the other flavours in the dish. I grow my own as a spice rather than a vegetable.

Question? Just asking. Wasn’t the eggplant lasagna supposed to be sliced lengthwise like lasagna noodles instead of rounds. I have never seen it in rounds before. Just wondering.

I think a good way to make Caitlin's recipe more lasagna-y would be to slice the eggplant with a mandolin to better resemble noodles

The eggplant one has a different name, is not a Lasagna but a Parmigiana...almost 💁🏼‍♂️ (i’m italian) we also fry or grill the eggplants, waaaay better

It would be interesting if you tried “shine with plants”, “Korenn Rachelle”, and “rawkristina” foods. Or Bforeal , ghetto vegans, that chocolate vegan, thee burger dude. Sauce stash, fly vegans, fineapple vegan, bosh, etc.

Maybe you could make strips of the eggplant or use zucchini strips instead of eggplant. I like zucchini as lasagna plates😁

I loooove Gaz's recipe, also because it's close to what I used to make before I was vegan, and it has that hearty feel to it! It's also not as difficult to make as it looks, if I'm lazy and don't want to deal with 3 pans I also don't infuse the milk and just add the ingredients in the bechamel as it sets (minus the onion). I am a real stick in the mud though and lightly boil the lazagna sheets as well, to make them easier to put in the tray without leaving any empty spaces and also because my oven is shitty haha. Anyways thanks for making this, lovely to see the alternatives as well, might try Cheap Lazy Vegan's soon!

Candice says use 3 big flat lasagna noodles for the bottom layer but only 2 for each noodle layer thereafter, cos u need a solid bottom as the base to make a good lasagna. using that criteria, me personally, if i were a lasagna, i would be terrific.

I would like to see you pit Alison Roman's Chickpea soup(that supposedly broke the internet!!!) to other some others. Maybe against Yeung Man Cooking's Morrocan Chickpea Soup and/or RecipeTin Eats Brazilian Chickpea Stew(not completely vegan though. Have to sub chicken stock for veggie stock).

@@shitlista4283 Moussaka would have a protein in it like TVP, Lentils, vegan ground and typically has eggplant. Potato Lasagna does not. Its like traditional lasagna you just swap the noodles for potatoes
