The funniest part is it wasnt even grease. Most of that was water and general moisture that came from the ground beef as it first touched the hot pan. So she rinsed water with water while most of the actual fat probably stayed in the pan and in the beef

For the Tanghulu, you’re supposed to let them cool completely (or even freeze them) before eating them. I had them so many times when I went back to China 3 years ago, and it was always super cold when we bought them.

From my experience there are 2 "types" of tanghulu, the frozen ones that aren't made out of hard crack candy so they aren't crunchy, and they almost seem like they're covered in honey, which is then covered with the edible paper like thing so it doesn't stick to the package, and the ones that David's making are served room temperature and they have the crunchy candy coating. Personally, I like the frozen ones a lot better but I've only had the other ones on a bullet train in China.

A tip to anyone working with hot sugar: never use any metal cutlery or kitchen tools to stir or spoon the mixture while it’s cooking. The difference in temperature can make the sugar crystallize

The tanghulu or "糖葫芦" is supposed to be chilled somewhat before you consumed it. They are usually made with Hawthorns which is a type of really sour fruit on it's own right. this method of doing it I recommend you try it with super sour fruits if you have any since the hard-coated sugar is supposed to be the sweat thing there. Also I dunno why he did a whole mandarin in that video but back home they are made with like one petal of it at a time so it's kinda like fruit on sticks.

@@theMoporter those do exist but it's less common. there are who would use steamed yams and taros because again they are good for you but semi tasteless and they work well with sugar. however, if you just did the sugar and stir-fried some cooked sweet potato in it becomes a new kind of sweet dish. which is supposed to be consumed hot.

I cut off my fingertip with a mandolin once, lots of blood. So for Christmas my kids gave me one of those gloves that prevent you from cutting yourself. Just have to remember putting it on when I use the mandolin.

Can I just say that I was against buying the "Always Pan" due to the commercial they have for it. But your Ad was leagues better. Its all about simplicity and honesty. Their running commercial is the creator and she's all, my pan helps you lose weight and grow taller. But I might get one now that I've seen it in action.

It’s not a great pan. It can’t take high heat and the dimensions are odd. The steamer basket is also kinda silly. If you want a steamer just get a steamer insert for whatever pot or pan you use most.

If you really want to see it in action, I highly recommend you watch Freakin' Reviews review of the pan. He puts it through several tests and then goes over his pros/cons list at the end. It does appear to be a good nonstick pan with some cool features, but nothing _that_ special and _definitely_ not worth $150 (in my opinion).

I’d love to see more vegan recipe taste tests on your channel (Merle O’Neal, Tabitha Brown, Goodful, Rainbow Plant Life, etc). I’ve tried a ton of them, and it’s always a 50-50 if a recipe (especially ones that feature vegan replacement products like vegan cheese or meat products) is going to be amazing or terrible. I always love seeing recipe diversity on this channel!

David, I have a suggestion for you! If you are going to pour something hot into glass, fill the glass with hot water first. You can let it sit for a couple minutes, then dump it out right before pouring in your hot stuff. Hope this helps 👍

Ahhhh tanghulu is best made with hawthorne berries! It's a bummer I have never seen them in the US. They're super tart so the combo with the sugar is Delicious. It was one of my favorite winter treats as a kid.

If you’re doing tanghulu I recommend hawthorn if you can locate them. They’re sold in most Asian supermarkets especially during summer as tanghulu in the freezer section and honestly great. You can also get them with fillings.

They have safety mandolines! Totally worth it for these layered potato recipes. For me, it's kind of a unitasker because I use a knife for everything else, but it's really nice to have when you need a million very consistently thin slices of potato with almost no risk of cutting yourself.

Just so you know, tanghulu is less often referring to candy coated fruits, it's primarily referencing candy coated hawthorn (very similar to a crab apple, but not as sour). You can imagine how the texture of an apple-ish fruit would fare better than strawberries lol. In Beijing they're everywhere (the ones made from hawthorn). I certainly don't know everything about Chinese cuisine, but I've not personally seen other fruit used for this. Chinese people, let me know what's common where you live! But clearly it's possible! A dish that is similar and I love is called basi digua - candy coated sweet potato. It's sooo good.
