The only difference between pancakes and waffles is the butter content and cooking method otherwise they are the same. A waffle is a buttered pancake with crevices.
I’m telling you, you missed the good places in Italy!!! I traveled there last May and Frigidarium in Rome was by far the best gelato I’ve ever had in my life and trumps ice cream 100000%!!

I think the difference is in Usa are more similar to a cheese with sugar, it's very fat and they put in everything, bisquits and others sweets. For the best gelato in Italy is in Rimini, maybe it's depend to the air, this city is near to sea and maybe the noise is more open, but i think this gelato is very good in some taste they caramelized nuts.
Let's be honest, a good gelato or ice cream just always hits the spot... Tip - use google translate to find pronunciation cuz I got sad after "San Gimingo" (it was supposed to be pronounced "San Jiminyano", Jee-mee-nya-no; "Gi" is always pronounced like a J, "gn" makes a "ny" or "ñ" in Spanish, and the rest is self-explanatory. The accent falls on the "a". Most gelaterie are closed due to wintertime. Italy sees gelato as a traditional snack to cool oneself, and they tend to close after October or November until February. The best shops tend to stay open due to educated tourist attractions. Last thing: The reason for little flavor mix-ins is purely due to tradition. The goal is not variety; it is tradition and simplicity.
Incredibe video and idea, but you cannot try gelato in Italy during the winter, almost all the shop are going to be close, they usually go to vacancy in winter and work from March till October ;)
To be fair, you did get to spend 50 days trying ice cream in the US and only 20 in Italy. And it also didn’t help that a good handful of the shops weren’t open during when you guys were there. But regardless, I would probably agree and say American ice cream is slightly better than Gelato in Italy
Idk where you guys all went, but my favorite is Grom. They have several locations in major cities and it’s really good. Also Gluten Free and Celiac friendly!
Being a huge fan of both ice cream in America and gelato in Rome, I can understand your sentiment! I like the creamy mouthfeel of ice cream (since gelato is made with milk, not cream), but I find somehow that the flavors of gelato pack a much bigger punch than ice cream, maybe also due to the high fat content in ice cream. Love them both in their various places!
amazing video man. The lack of mix in is cause in Italy that is not much in our tradition, neither we like it a lot, so most shops won't do it. I think that coming during winter was not such a good idea, cause most places are closed and also a lot of good ones lower their quality and efforts since the sales go down a lot in that period. For me the best place is gelateria il castello in Rimini, their ricotta and figs is just on another level. But yeah, cool video, hope you enjoyed our country.
You unfortunately missed two spots. Both of those are in my region of Liguria. Not sure but I think you've been there if Celle Ligure is there. Anyways. The highest rated ice-cream shop a year or two ago was actually in Varazze called: Gelateria i giardini di Marzo. I've never been there as I don't normally travel in that direction. The second place has one of the weirdest flavours out there, crazier than the ones you tried. It's called Romeo Viganotti in Genova, my hometown. If anyone wants to go just be careful. Because they also have a nearby chocolate bar that sells really expensive yet phenomenal artisanal chocolates and desserts. They are renowned for their bean to bar production using the authentic machinery from the mid 1800's. How crazy is that! However back in 2012 they decided to open an artisanal ice cream shop where they craft the weirdest yet most interesting flavours. The eye catching ones are cheese based ice creams. One has a base of blue cheese (gorgonzola) and the second one of ricotta cheese (tastes kind of like a plain ice cream to me) both of them topped with whole hazelnut pieces (of course without the shell). They once made a pesto flavour or even a beer flavour with a local beer place. The last time I went I tried one of the new current flavours wich was: 60% dark chocolate with salted caramel and almonds. It was well worth the lactase. And I'm not usually a fan of chocolate ice-cream. Also another honorable mention is Gelateria Amedeo in the area of Boccadasse also in Genova. They are a classic ice cream shop but their ice-creams taste really good and are well made. I reccomend also the two vegan alternatives they sell which are pistachio with chocolate swirls and peanuts. Or hazelnut with chocolate swirl and almonds. They don't even taste gritty or weird for being fully vegan.
What's with like half of the gelato business population being closed/closing for an extended period of time? I know they have the thing where they close in the afternoon (their version of a siesta) and open a bit later, but I don't get the massive closures.
You’ve lived your whole life eating artificial, fatty and insanely sugary american ice cream, so of course you think it’s best because you’re not used to gelato so much, which doesn’t have as much fat or sugar and the flavors are more natural and usually singular flavored. But if you get to only eat gelato for a year you’ll find american ice cream way too sweet and fatty lol Talking (sort of) from experience lol
Ok suuure they have taste buds and can decide for themselves. Or it could be the ice cream they had in the U.S. was very good and they liked it better. They don’t need you telling them how to like foods.
@@starofdabloc I’m just giving my opinion as I’m entitled to and so is everyone else. I’ve lived in 5 different countries throughout my life including the USA and Italy so I know more than most what I’m talking about. Of course American ice cream is good, I love it, but gelato is superior, it’s healthier, more natural and tastier, but someone who’s only ever lived in the US has a limited point of view and it takes time to appreciate other things. Only when I went back to the US after living in another country that I realized how overly sweet and fatty foods there are, that’s why I made that comment. Of course they don’t need me telling them how to like food, I’m just giving my opinion from my perspective which is very different than their simply because I have more experience. Bye now.
@@GiovannaDeBiasi I’ve been to multiple countries too. Do you know if they have been out of the country before? You’re just assuming. If the food is good no matter where it is, then the food is good. It’s their opinion and you have yours. Like what’s your point? Have you even ate at the ice cream spots they went to, to say that about those people’s ice cream? Stop it. Nobody cares about your opinion. That’s why it’s yours and not theirs.
