Even though I’m usually, gasp, a SpongeBob reviewer, I’m taking this day to congratulate the series’ whole crew equally, past and present. Both the team Stephen Hillenburg hand picked, and subsquent generations of talent, and how they’ve kept the show chugging along in every way they can. I wish them the best of fortunes.

No, the first episode aired on this day in 1999. It aired right after that year’s Kids Choice Awards, which were also on May 1, 1999. They are going to celebrate it at this year’s KCAs though
