EKK FUN FUN FUN!!! WHAT SHOULD I TRY NEXT?! This is honestly my favourite video maybe I have ever made, I just love researching it all and stuff you know!
The recipes I used if not from a recipe book:
Duck a l'orange, a classic julia childs recipe: dejavucook.wor...
Black forest gateau was from the delia smith cook book but I found it here: htbexmassey.co.u...

My aunt had the most gorgeous “hostess skirts” in the ‘70s. These were long skirts that would be worn with a blouse or turtleneck sweater. Once dinner was cooked, she’d do her comb out, put on her makeup, and change to her skirt and blouse. These parties were usually Grownups Only, but I loved watching the ritual of preparation. There was so much ceremony-it was truly an Event.

I love the 70s. I was a teenager in California, USA, so it is a very nostalgic time for me. My mother was into the new health food craze, so we had lots of whole grain bread, sprouts, avocados, artichokes, and everything (meatloaf, chicken, fish, etc.) was cooked with lots of wine.

It was the same in Canada: whole grain bread, sprouts you made at home, but no avocados; wine sauces for company dinner or birthdays, homemade granola, homemade peanut butter. Lots of homemade yogurt, and just coming onto the market was tofu. We made desserts with the softest kind, and ignored the rest, lol. Never jellied salads, they were more in the '60s, but shrimp cocktail the way Mary Berry makes it. Yum.

Grace you should check out the Mass Observation Project! It started in 1981and basically volunteers are asked to write a diary entry about everything that happens to them on a random day and their diary entries are recorded. They're encouraged to record all sorts of everyday things about their lives for historians of the future - you could recreate a day in the life of the 1980s for your next challenge! Also people would be set random questions to record snapshots in time, anything from 'What do you have on your mantlepiece' to 'How does the miners' strike affect your life?'. You can also still sign up to be a volunteer, it just sounded like the kind fo thing you might be interested in and could engourage people to participate in :-)

My mum is 76 and she first had spaghetti bolognese when she was 14 on a visit to family in Canterbury, she got ill so she never had it again until she was in her 50s and now she loves it. Also, just to add about pasta, it wasn't widely eaten in the UK until the 70s; due to a potato famine, the price of potatoes went up so people started eating more pasta and rice, which also meant people became more adventurous with their food.

Little tip re the black forest gateau from a German who bakes it regularly ;) Leaving out the alcohol always works and basically makes the cake kid-friendly. If you don't have kirsch liqueur at hand, you can always substitute it with rum. Let the cherries soak in rum for at least two weeks and once you drain the cherries, don't throw away the rum-cherry-mixture but use it to moisten the cake. Hope this helps and happy baking :)

Another tip for opening a jar, get a pointed end knife (but be careful with it), stick the pointed end under the lip of the lid in the part where there's a gap, push up & slightly push the knife away from you & release the air seal (it'll pop when it releases), then the lid should come off easily.

Another jar-opening trick (if you’re worried about banging it) is to just stick a butter knife under the rim of the lid and just push or twist slightly. It will release the seal with a pop and the lid will easily unscrew. :)

Papa Booth being in such a contrary mood he can’t even agree with himself over whether he likes pasta or not has made my day 😆

My parents did a lot of entertaining in the 70’s. There were a lot of Swedish Meatballs, Fondue dinners, flank steak pounded thin, then rolled around flavored bread crumbs, and different wines to pair up with each course. Then for dessert, there was Harvey Wallbanger cake, Grasshopper pie, Mousse in any form...

In America, Jello salads were very popular. My mother and grandmothers made them a lot! I remember my mother making pot roast, peas and carrots, and mashed potatoes for “fancy” dinners in the 1970s. (I was ages 5-14 in the ‘70s!))
