Lmao as someone who's lived in Hemel for ages it was funny recognising everywhere you went, if you ever come back take a stop at the Marlowes since they've got some decent restaurants
As a lifelong resident of Hemel, I must say you brought a tear to my eye. I was standing just outside my apartment when I heard the plane coming over the horizon of buildings. I wasn't able to get it on camera because I don't actually live in Hemel and have never actually been, but I'll truly never forget this. Thank you.
Hi Max. I once had a bike stolen in Hemel Hempstead. I believe this incident should be an apt representation of hemel and all of it's occupants. With this in mind, please charter a second plane to read 'actually, on second thought, screw you guys'
The first time I drove round the magic roundabout I nearly had a stroke. I’d never heard of it before and when I saw the sign I was so fucking confused.
@@sofies.4241 it was rush hour for me too. Mental how scary it is that time of the day. My dad is normally fantastic at warning me about certain roads etc around London but he forgot that one. 😂 Come to think of it he forgot about the roundabout on the north circular where you have to get over 6 lanes in like 50 yards too. 😂
I said to new mates at Derby uni I was from Watford, only because nobody has every heard of Hemel Hempstead and you’ve got nothing to tell them except it has the magic roundabout. I would just say I lived just outside north London
@@yessir889 Dunno where he is from, but I am from Romania, which is in Eastern Europe. Used to be a communist country. I now live in the UK and Huha's statement applies to Romania as well.. Unless you're into soviet looking buildings
No lie, Hemel Hempstead actually looks really nice. That said, being from the middle of nowhere US, most places in the UK look really nice in comparison. I might legitimately visit Hemel Hempstead for an afternoon if I ever get to travel to the UK.
Berkhampstead is the next stop on after Hemel on the train to Birmingham and Hemel is after Berkhampstead on the train to London If you have football teams bet that it is a great rivalry like West Brom and Wolves
After that ‘Crap Towns’ book was published (back in the early 00s), the authors received countless complaints from people incredulous about the omission of my birthplace, Luton. So many people, in fact, that Luton was named number 1 in the sequel: Britain’s 50 crappest towns. I’m a proud Lutonian 😂
@@happylittlevibe the first district (Stephansplatz, Opera, Rathausplatz, taking a walk along the whole "Ringstraße"). As for Museums/Palaces with beautiful gardens: Schloss Schönbrunn and Belvedere. If you are in the centre you can't do any wrong. Everything is worth seeing :)
As someone who lives in the same county as Hemel Hempstead, I’d just like to say that I truly feel for its residents, as I have a very deep connection with the town (I’ve seen it on a road sign)
Yea but I had gut feeling it might’ve been my hometown and when I literally saw the second shot of him stood on that little bridge, my hunch was confirmed.
Omg, max fosh. Ik you might not see this except I wanna say thanks you. I live in Hemel and when I clicked on this I needed expected it to be our town. Thank you for bringing light, we may not have the most beautiful views but we're still a lovely town with lovely people, I can't believe you also and to the main town area!!! Big fan, thank you man.
Beauty or ugliness has to do with the people who live in a place. I've been to "beautiful" places where the people were s*** to each other and to strangers, and I've been to places that were depressing to behold, but the people were just lovely and wonderful.
I lived in Hemel my whole life until I moved about 7 years ago. Most are my family are still there. It used to be beautiful, they are slowly destroying it but it is definitely not the ugliest town in the UK.
I've lived in hemel for 25 years...its certainly not ugly!..lots of open green spaces and trees....a lovely river gade that runs through it....its got lovely countryside within few mins of driving...surrounded by the Chiltern hills and NT...I LOVE THIS TOWN...its an oasis so close to London but escaping the madness of London...
When skate boards were first invented, we used to try and skate down 'Heath Fields'. My mate Steve Cooper broke his arm too. I first rode a motorbike there too, in the 60's. I lived in Thumpers!
I remember meeting Ethan Phillips from Star Trek Voyager. He asked where I was from. I said "Bedford - it's not far from Luton," at which point he grimaced and said, "Is it true what they say about Luton? It can't be that bad. But I'm from New York, I can't talk." Luton's got a bad rep in the States as well, and in space.
My parents have a copy of that crap towns book and it has lived on a shelf in the downstairs toilet of their house for at least 22 years and I think that tells you everything you need to know about it
As 9 years in hemel hempstead and i have never seen someone that has called our town beautiful, everyone says its really ugly but they dont see the prettiness in it,i am a citizen to hemel hempstead but,it actually put a tear in my eye❤❤
Ah you were already my favourite RU-vid, but know that I know you’re half Dutch my love for you and your channel got even bigger! Groetjes from the Netherlands!
£10?! 😮 That's a whole £1 above what Taunton's started as.. although saying that Taunton is now called 'Everything £15 so we've definitely inflated a bit more 😂🤣
Congratulations putting Heavenly Place to Live Hemel Hempstead on the beautiful map. Made my day seeing your plane with banner flying over with its message of Love. Thank you.
You being half Dutch makes you even cooler! I think you need make a video of you trying to speak Dutch for 24 hours or something. We need it! Liefs, a fellow (half) Dutchy!
I vote Hemel Hempstead as the new capital of England. London may have snatched that title before poor Hemel had a chance to, but slow and (Hemp)steady wins the race and I shall be meeting boris tomorrow to discuss this pressing issue.
Bucks has retained so much snobbery, for a county so near the Midlands. (Source: lifelong resident now resigned to the fact that I'll never afford a house here. Smh.)
This reminds me : I was going to go there on the 22nd December, getting all excited to get back to skiing (even with an easy slope). Then... BAM! Bojo announced lockdown about two days before the trip :(
Almost had a head on crash with a guy driving on the wrong side of the road on the magic roundabout. Also, it's 6 mini roundabouts, 5 is the inferior one in Swindon
If you've ever seen the Ricky Gervais series afterlife it's set in my beautiful town of hemel hempstead. Didn't even show them the old town which was voted one of the nicest places in England 😢
Send one over Aldershot next. But have it dump a load of glitter on the town centre. They say you can't polish a turd, but you can indeed roll one in glitter.
I thought he was going to mention slough. I am from there and literally, everyone calls it ugly and crime-filled. Edit: Slough was on the ugliest town voted list lol.
Ricky Gervais Uses it in sketch and it was on an Advert like Kids we are going to Slough never understood why they were exited turned out there grandparents lived there as advert was about life insurance
I don't think Slough is as bad as people make it out to be, like obviously there's ugly parts and questionable architecture like there is everywhere but a lot of it is perfectly fine?
I thought I was pretty up-to-speed on differences between UK and American pronounciation, but "Leverstock" being pronounced "lower-stock" caught me off guard.
I used to work just outside Hemel Hempstead as a teen in the late 90s .... Just because certain towns don't look so pretty on the outside, often have some truly lovely communities and people...... Grimsby could also do with some love is this nature.... It's a place with alot to offer but often gets forgotten x
