The upper class who can afford these schools also benefit from having stable homes. If you’re impoverished, your home life is likely to be dysfunctional, with addiction and mental illness being higher with poverty. Dealing with those issues at home as a child will massively impact your chances in life. And the wealthy then go on to join the boys club of politics and run the country, where they enact policies which further disenfranchise the poor (see: David Cameron, Boris Johnson, every wanker in the Tory party). Eton and Harrow should be turned into museums and the little darlings put into council estates for a few years to see how they like it.
@maxscourfield4754
@maxscourfield4754 3 года назад
L Martin the majority of MP’s did not go to a private school so by your own logic the ‘old boys club’ has been elected by the people when they could have elected people from the council estates but a valiant attempt 🙃

So I went to a State Boarding School that played Private Schools like Harrow at Rugby. We were pretty good so 9/10 times we would beat all these posh schools and then go eat their delicious dinner following the match (as they always provided food after if we played on their ground). I felt bad for these private schools because when they played at our school they would get SOGGY sausages, chips and doughnuts from our canteen. Imagine losing a rugby match to a state school and then having to eat soggy food afterwards.. xD

But it’s ridiculously insensitive when you see more timid and nervous people who then get immediately shut down in friendship groups, social situations and general opinions. As someone who was privately educated for my teens, it always amuses me to have people quiz me as if I went to school on another planet. Honestly, other than uniforms and the facilities, it was the same. Some aspects were more cushy, some aspects were more tribal and rough.

How do you know it was the same? You came out of that school with unfair, undeserved advantages that 90 percent of people in the country are denied.
@CamoDrako
@CamoDrako 8 месяцев назад
@@boarbot7829 If you had actually read my comment, you'll see I said "for my teens" - I was publicy educated for 7 years and privately for 6. I was only able to go when my mum got a job there which gave a 50% discount. When I was privately educated, I didn't get to go on holidays abroad bc we couldn't afford it. Secondly, not a single one of my uni friends were privately educated, so we used to talk about it and compare a lot. They're still my best friends 8 years later. Thirdly, I come from a working class family on both sides and both of my parents were the only people in their families to stay in school past 16, let alone go to college. I was never allowed to take my privileged education for granted, and all my friends in my hometown went to the local high school. Finally, what do you mean by "undeserved"? Did the 98% of kids who failed the entrance exam deserve to get in? Does someone with a nicer car than me not deserve it? Does the fact that I never had a phone bought for me in my life by my parents whilst all my public high school friends had iPhones mean they didn't deserve them? Having seen both sides of the coin, the difference between the two is partly facilities, but overwhelmingly is the character and attitude of the teachers. If you go to private school and you're dumb, they can't change that - what they can do is influencr your cognitive faculties and make you more critical and reasonable. Using those faculties afforded to me is what makes your comment so laughable: 1. You immediately dived into having a go at me didn't stop to read that I have been through both private and public education (i.e. I actually have a real perspective on both - do you?) 2. You immediately default to the Marxist-Wolffian position that having something better than others means it must be stolen somewhere in the chain of trade and thus is "undeserved". I am pretty frugal and am absolutely certain you have stuff in your posession that is much nicer than mine - so who gets to decide whether you deserve it? You? Unless you stole it, I think you deserve it. So if I go to a fee-paying school as a child of a plumber and a teacher, at what point does my parents dedicating their lives and sacrificing stuff like going on holiday simply got my education mean that I don't deserve it?

it is another planet for some people. the fact you and many other private schoolers are incapable of recognising this really shows the kind of bubble you grew up in. It's ok that you went to a private school, and it's not your fault you grew up in this bubble, but now you are out in the real world, you need to be able to at least acknowledge the privilege you had. Otherwise you embarrass yourself and it's frankly offensive to others who grew up in diabolical poverty, living hand to mouth. And yes, that does happen in this country, and is far more common than whatever you are imagining.

Kind of depends on the job, there’s a move away from hiring exclusively from top schools. These people usually have connections which get them advantages, but I know a lot of companies would rather take a successful state school kid over a public school one. Ultimately though uni is definitely more important, and experience is even more vital. Posh people tend to have connections to get internships and things though so it’s hard to separate if it’s the school or the advantages.

And I needed to have my own room and some privacy and a lot of time alone in peace. I liked to spend a lot of time with friends after school but sometimes I just wanted to be alone and not getting those monets alone woud have broke me. If I woud have been send to a boarding school I woud have gone to drugs or killed my self or and up in mental hospital. Not every kid can handle something like boarding school. Some never recover. Is it really worth it? I had a happy childhood and grow up the be a stable working person with a good life. If I woud have been send to boarding school I woud be dead by now. Kids who enjoy that are the polar opposite of kids like I was. For me it woud have been hell on earth. How meny boarding school kids are planning to kill themselves now? Kids who woud be happy and woud have good grades if they coud live with their family in safety and comfort 😢
