Something that they didn't talk about but keralis mentioned is that he has his keyboard sideways and right next to his.mouse.....that to me qualifies his for a weirder vote

@@hiddenunderhatse8094 I think he means he uses a lefthanded mouse and the keyboard is just slightly tilted to be more comfortable. Not like 90 degrees lol. If you try using WASD with the right hand that makes sense (and is honestly more comfortable than lefthanded WASD imo) The main issue is he has to move his whole setup to type I guess

and the foot pedal is just kinda streamer tech. one pedal mutes, one sprints and i can't remember what (if anything) the third pedal does but i think it was something streamery.

At first when she mentioned the soda I was picturing those 24-pack rectangular enclosed boxes that you'd typically get if you're buying soda from any grocery store (which are long and narrow, because inside the box the cans are packed in a 2x12 grid, which would make for a flat but very narrow surface to work with), but the wording she used was "a flat of soda cans" which makes it sound like maybe some sort of Costco / Sam's Club bulk packaging more like you might expect bottles of Snapple or whatever else to be sold in (I have no idea if they sell soda cans this way or how big they would make the package, but I'm picturing a shallow (like 1/3 the height of a can) open-ended box with maybe a 6x4 grid of cans and with plastic wrap encasing the whole thing to keep them from falling out, which so long as it's unopened she could maybe turn it upside down to use the bottom of the box as a flat and reasonably sized surface). You'd improvise with whatever you've got if there's nothing better to work with. But still... Something about that, whichever way it was meant, does sound like an awkward choice. EDIT: It's been a long time since I last bought those long box packs of soda, actually. Are they 24 or 12 in a pack? 24 seems wrong, thinking about it again after I wrote it.

@@MuljoStpho You can buy soda cans in lots of sizes. 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, etc. Cleo lives in the UK so I'm imagining a relatively small number, not the huge packs you typically see in the US. They could also be large soda cans for more height

The microphone from the stairs makes so much sense though and so does using boxes of soda for the mouse idk maybe I'm also weird but I understand

yeah most of the descriptions were good enough in the poll, but cleo's sounded so normal...then the video came out

cleo drew a picture and it makes way more sense than you think it does, she just sat on a sofa in front of a staircase (which the arm of the microphone is on) and had the keyboard on her knee and the mouse on the flat top of a box of soda, with the monitor(s) on the table in front

While making the poll, he didn't know the reasoning was being left handed. So only people who could've figured it out would see it an not-wierd.

but you also have to consider a degree of separation. How often does a "normal" person use a headset, compared to a "youtuber" who spends their entire day at the computer needing "quality" sound for proper editing? Plus the hardware details of the setup that means more cords to tangle, and potentially pets who can be disruptive in their own right. And then comes the argument of not knowing the most common form of breaks, coming from someone who is growing increasingly convinced the shape of my head doesnt get along with headphones well, with the most common breaks being a snap between one speaker and the "headband" that holds them together...

You do realize that saying regular use to a person that plays minecraft for a living is an odd phrase right? He probably spends more hours than we can even comprehend using those headsets so they probably breakdown sooner than they would for everybody else. Besides that obviously they aren't crap quality since he said that they're very comfortable for him to use

As a lefty: anyone who uses a mouse with their left hand is an utter freak. You're making things much more difficult for yourself for every game that doesn't support control remapping and when using any computer you use that isn't your own. Just learn the normal way. It's as bizarre and impractical as using a DVORAK keyboard layout. It doesn't matter if it's slightly more efficient, NOTHING is built to support it.

Nah fam I have much better accuracy with my left. Why would I want to to have worse aim? Also no one taught me how to play on keyboard, the game just said use WASD so I did, it felt natural to use WASD with my right hand ​@@glassbirdfeather

@@YannickBo I still hit "I" for inventory every once in awhile on accident, burned into memory even though it's been a whole lotta years since it worked

@@cschepers I still tend to go to the arrow keys from time to time. Before I played Minecraft I only played racing games and back then almost all used arrow keys. So I wasn't used to WASD and just changed the bindings to what I was used to.

@@cschepers you could put ‘I’ as your throw key so that there is something else to associate with it and maybe it’ll annoy you so much you will stop pressing it lol

I'm a thumb shifter and even I think it's weird and impractical

not really flight sims, they played Battlefield and used Helicopters a lot. Impy was the pilot and Skizz gunner.

I just find it hilarious that people are saying inverted controls are so weird, yet it’s the only thing on the list that two of them do, and it’s a preset option in the game. Maybe I’m just defensive because I use inverted controls as well. My son plays inverted as well, because he started out playing on my account.

Yup, there's something in there about age, and whatever your first few "3D" games with view/aim tilt had as default. My first was Ocarina of Time on the N64 and I'm 99% sure the aiming was inverted because that's intuitive for me. 😅 My weird obsession with fringe use-cases is very curious what a person used to puppeting marionettes (and, in an ideal testing environment, without prior experience with video games) would find intuitive, as the "control stick" for a marionette is held horizontally at neutral (like a mouse or thumbstick)(versus a vertical joystick/flightstick) and tilted to mechanically lift/lower the head. Anyone using a mouse on a horizontal surface to move a pointer on a vertical screen (or holding a controller at any reasonably comfortable angle) is already remapping gestures to a different plane (forward->up, backward->down) in their brain even if they aren't inverting controls, but the basic marionette controller is attached to its puppet at a fixed distance via gravity--the mechanism for movement is very 1:1. The gesture to tilt a simple marionette is a bend at the wrist (more like a joystick/flightstick) as opposed to a push-pull (mouse), if the puppet is more complex, the general mechanics to lift something involve shortening a string...but how does a marionette pilot think of that motion? As tilting the front of the stick up like a pointer (regular y-axis), or pressing the back of the stick down/away from the desired movement (inverted y-axis)? If they shorten a string, are they lifting the head (regular), or pulling back on the string away from the puppet (inverted)? If asked, do they imagine the puppet and decide on movements from a first-person (inhabiting the puppet) or 3rd-person (external god controlling the puppet) view? Does that correlate with how they "default" on the y-axis intuition debate? These are questions I doubt will ever be answered, that probably don't need to be answered, and yet I shall marinate in them alllllll day....

@@bsidethebox I think that's a very apt analogy because I think of it as "if my mouse hand were on top of my character's head, how do I control it?" And for me, Goldeneye was the most formative as a kid, then Max Payne, Alice, Halfife - all defaulted to inverted back in the day.

People are getting way too hung up on the soda cans! Soda cans come in a BOX. The top is a perfect flat plane and size for a mousepad.

no cleo is worse. trust. Mouse was on full soda cans and mic is dangling from stairs.

I myself have always played like Etho does as well. I have a lower chair than most, so my desk sits higher. Maybe it is because I have trained myself to like it but it's actually much more difficult for me to play in the generic way

They posted a drawn diagram of it and it’s really not as bad as it seems in the video!

It switched in Beta 1.4 for anyone wanting to know the exact time. Also when the creative inventory was added (that was before the survival inventory) it was bound to B

Even for left-handed, he mostly tries to play right-handed. True left, like me, will mirror the commands to the right side and leave the common keys on the left. Still we both use our mouse with the left hand. I draw, and with most drawing programs, one uses the dominant hand. It messes up drawing if changed for gaming. So, the mouse is left hand, and most keyboard use is with the right.

Might have to watch Mumbos video, all of them elaborate on their entries a bit more

I don't know if anything I do is weird tbh. Perspective swap is left alt, run on R and aside from that my 8th and 9th hotbar slot are bound to a mouse thumb button each as they're hard to reach correctly without looking away from the screen. I think mine are pretty chill? Idk

Etho's set up absolutely sounds like the kind of set up that just evolves out of "this is what I have right now, here's a good enough solution" and then having no desire to relearn things later

@@patfre We just call it a uvula. And yes the school system did fail me, I dropped out of highschool. Absolutely hated it. Everything about it pretty much. I regret doing that for one reason, it would've taught me that sometimes in life you absolutely have to do the things you don't want to in order to survive. Stay in school kids, even if you hate it there is still some good to come of it. Just don't let the propaganda get to you. (There's alot more of that in school now than when I was in, even then there was still a bunch, but it's gotten worse. Especially in the history department.)
