Known for his polyglot abilities and captivating content, Xiaomanyc has now ventured into the tech arena with his A.I. Language Tutor: "yourteacher.ai", aiming to reshape how we learn languages. In today's video, "I Took Xiaoma's A.I. Language Tutor For 30 Days," I venture into the cutting-edge realm of language learning spearheaded by Xiaomanyc.
Over a 30-day period, I immersed myself in this digital tutor's ecosystem, gauging its capability to stand toe-to-toe with platforms like Duolingo or even replace traditional human tutors. Is Xiaomanyc's A.I. Language Tutor the new frontier in language education? In this video, I unfold my firsthand experience, highlighting the advantages, the drawbacks, and the unique facets of this tool.
Being an avid enthusiast of educational technology, I extend the discussion to the broader implications this product could have on the language learning industry. How does Xiaomanyc's A.I. Language Tutor measure up against current methods, and what could it signify for the future of language acquisition? Furthermore, I share my thoughts on the potential impact this evolving project could have as it matures.
Embark on this journey with me as I unravel my expedition, the learnings acquired, and whether Xiaomanyc's A.I. Language Tutor meets the expectations. This video is a confluence of technology, education, and the perpetual endeavor to dismantle language barriers in our progressively globalized world.

This is fascinating and is something I would be interested in acquiring; I could be really useful. The price tag of $300 for the year is a little steep for me right now but maybe within a few months. One thing I noticed in your pronunciation of "menu", you are saying the word like we do in English, "men-you". It should probably sound more like "men-oo. It's awesome you are learning Italian! Have fun and keep with it! Thanks for the information.

"For the first time ever we have an actual tangible example ... that has completely replaced a job". Odd that you open with this statement, like the job-replacement aspect of it is the goal rather than the by-product of A.I. development.
@josh.mountain
@josh.mountain 6 месяцев назад
I felt it would be more honest to address it head on since when this application first launched, it was targeted at Tutor replacement as opposed to quality of language learning, and I’d argue it still is. 🤔
@user-gb1vd9ns2i
@user-gb1vd9ns2i 6 месяцев назад
@@josh.mountain I appreciate your response. But I am a bit confused why tutor replacement is the stated target. I suspect a good number of people will use applications like these in combination with, rather than instead of, classes from human tutors. If human interaction is the goal of language-learning, I doubt that aspect will completely disappear at the learning-stage (It is telling that the application still mimics human interaction by coupling a human picture to the the AI teacher). Perhaps I am wrong, but seeking tutor replacement in and of itself seems like an odd goal still.

@@josh.mountain I apologize, I should have specified I signed up for it on the 14th of this month, maybe trying it shortly after Xiaoma's video on it. If they can drastically improve the Korean and Russian model to the level of the Portuguese one I would pay for a year. As it stands the only native speaker types with limited options at least have bad robotic speech in English and when I asked the Korean one to give me a paragraph spoken in Korean to help me get a feel for pronunciation it then told me NOT to rely on it for that type of stuff. Then why the bleep would I be using this for conversation practice which the creator says was his intention?! Sorry annoyed at the creator not you. As it stands after a month I will be cancelling this until the aforementioned happens. The recent update I saw added Oly Richards but I don't want to use a non-native speaker to help create or enforce my pronunciation in that language.

Unfortunelly YourTeacher doesn't work for me... I've tried to had some conversations with my teacher, but she's always repeat the same subject. Example: - I live in Trastevere, Roma, do you ever had in Roma? - Yes, it's a beautiful city, I loved to visit Coliseum. - Oh, Coliseum is really awesome, it's a really close to Trastevere, where you can find amazing restaurants. - Please, stop talking about Trastevere, let's talk about soccer... - Of course, in Italy we have a lot of teams, like Juventus e Milan, in Trastevere you can watch the soccer game in some bar eating delicious snacks.. 🙄

It's so funny. We are in 2023 and some people believe that what the AI does is a teacher's job. Maybe some teachers really used this parroting drilling method, but any interested learner could do that already before with a good textbook. If it contained IPA, including the pronunciation at an AI level. The art of teaching is quite different and has nothing to do with this tool. So no threat. I actually encourage language learners to use these tools and teach them how to benefit from them. What I really don't like about this in concrete, is it's L1 approach in instruct. That's poor teaching (lazy teacher). AI should be able to give skillful L2 support from the beginning. Otherwise, where is the profit?

I think this is a great tool but I don't see it replacing human tutors. Human language is subject to human logic, emotion, etc. Then, there are the big problems that every speaker says things slightly differently, they may use some different words, and then there are accents. Languages can not be memorized to fluency. Language is aquired. Again, it is a good tool and can teach how to read and write but spoken fluency can only be learned by speaking with other people. There are many people who misrepresent themselves as "polyglots" when they are only fluent in 2 or 3 languages. There are no magic formulas for becoming fluent. It takes hundreds or thousands of hours, depending on the language, and determination and motivation. The application in this video is a great translation tool, especially for tourists.
@josh.mountain
@josh.mountain 5 месяцев назад
Agreed! Having a tool like this is a great way to supplement your learning, so that you can dramatically reduce the time it takes to learn conversational skills in a new language. It may not make you 100% fluent, but it’s a great way to get those conversational phrases down.

Clip of Xiaomanyc supposedly speaking "amazing, perfect" Chinese to "shock" native speakers: "Wo xiang SHOU yi xia, zhe ge zhende hao chi" For those not familiar with the language, he likely meant "shuo" (1st tone) which is "to say", basically. HE said it like "show". Just be aware when you see "white guy speaks perfect Chinese, locals shocked" videos, first, race has NOTHING TO DO WITH language learning ability - experience does, so "white guy" in the title is just dumb, but also, his mandarin is FAR from perfect. A decently proficient speaker of the language can immediately tell THAT. All I'm saying, if you're going to go around doing that, you'd better have f'ing ACTUALLY phenomenal Chinese. Know what westerner ACTUALLY has excellent Chinese? Da Shan - a Canadian comedian. HIS Chinese really is very near perfect.
