You’re amazing, Norm! Rebuilding the smallest electronics shop to preserve the owner’s legacy, creating and encouraging giveaways to bring people to Japan who have always wanted to visit, helping local businesses expand their reach through comments on your videos. Plus more I’m sure we’re not even aware of! You’re such a positive force for good in the world!

Not exactly the same thing, but I purchased a joblot of junk art supplies in Japan about a year or two ago and most of what arrived was completely unused - there was a set of gansai tambi paint which had been very lightly used, and a tin of fancy pencils that had been used a little bit, but some of the other materials were completely unopened, and all the rest looked like they'd not been used apart from maybe to test the colours/pigments :D

This is just genius for businesses needling to get rid of junk that they plan to throw away, instead put it in a box, sell it for $5, now the junk is the customer's problem and no longer theirs and they make some change from it, haha. Honestly though I am suprised to see at least some useful things and everything seems to work.

That pink plastic around the RAM is for ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection, and with the phones, just ROM the Android and Jailbreak the iPhone, and you also get rid of the shutter sound. I love going to these old tech stores in Japan, always something cool to find, the problem is that it piles up at home instead 😂 My favorite is probably the portable CD player, I am thinking of getting a retro stereo setup with a vinyl player, CD player, mini-disk player, and even a good DVD/Blu-ray player.
