So sorry for the inconsistent lighting in this video! I'm going to transition away from natural lighting to avoid problems like this in the future. Hopefully, it isn't too distracting! p.s. Support Operation Olive Branch: www.olivebranchintl.com/about-us
@@airypersiflage Thanks, I'm trying to find a way to keep some amount of natural light because I really do like the vibe it gives of 'sitting down with a friend.' I don''t want my content to be super professional, but it's tough when you film on a day that has inconsistent light!
it’s 2am where I am but I am definitely saving this to watch later (probably several times)… you worked so damn hard on this video, I am *not* about to see it flop
"The best perfume you've never heard of" KAIT- we're over here on the verge of tears. What a compliment! We love Highs + Lows and just want more people to discover it so thank you so much!!
I don't understand when people describe almost ANY perfume as young or old smelling! It just makes no sense to be. Aside from some VERY ancient perfumes I don't smell "old". I also don't smell most perfumes and think "young". I have a variety of kinds of perfumes I like: floral, green, clean, gourmound, woody.....it just depends on each perfume. I have perfumes from the 90's I still love and many released now and in between. I think of how I want to smell that day by type and never think anything I own or even smell is old or young. I'm so tired of hearing that in descriptions. Fragrance is a very personal and individual thing. Whatever you like and whatever type I am feeling that day often based on time of the year is what I choose. The only thing I can think of that may smell "young" might simply translate to "cheap" like some random drugstore bargain body spray or cologne.
For me, very heavy perfumes that my grandmother wore smell "old" (Shalimar, Angel). Because I connect the smell to her and associate it with an old lady. My other grandma wore Chloé, but somehow, that never stuck with me as an old grandma scent.
Sure, but there also IS a type of perfume many older woman wear. There’s perfumes marketed towards older, more mature woman, too, so obviously it’s a thing. It’s not a bad thing, some scents just smell like those.
I literally screamed when I saw the notification for this video. I have rewatched your other perfume video more times than I can count so now I have something else to feast on. Your deep dives are incredible I could seriously listen to them about any subject because of the unique way you have of describing things. The amount of time and effort you put into this shows and it’s easily one of my favorite videos you’ve ever done ❤️
Oh my goodness what an amazing video. You worked so hard and really took one for the team! Thakn you! I have to try that Guerlain one that you like. I, too, get so irritated when a lot of fragrances say vanilla in the name and smell nothing like it! Shalimar makes me feel sick to my stomach so I read you on that one! My favourite vanilla is Laura Mercier Vanilla Gourmand which they have reformulated (not sure if the new one is as good as the old one). I really like the Clean Reserve Skin perfume. I do not smell the vanilla in it/just musk which reminds me of a scent I wore in high school (ahem many moons ago) by Bonnie Bell called Skin Musk (which I think is still out there but renamed/must revisit that one!).
I just spent an hour and 20 minutes with Kait and loved every minute of it. I could have gone another 40 minutes lol. Rest that voice girl. Awesome video. Thanks you for all your hard work on this. Look forward to the next deep dive.
Escapade gourmande is officially on my wishlist. Something easy but still yummy. If you’re looking for another vanilla, I’m almost done with Ledda 18 Vanilla Nera!! It is one of my faves, but would love your thoughts❤ thanks for the categories and chapters!!
I have been wearing hypnotic poison for almost 20 years. (Getting old 😅) Have been stopped on the street by strangers who asked what it is. A guy friend of mine bought it for his girlfriend once, because he loved it so much on me. But he was really disappointed that it smelled so different on her. So, that's really a thing. A perfume must work with your individual skin scent. For me it is a very deep, flowery, almondy scent. Very sexy. The vanilla is there in the base, but not at all dominant.
YOU ARE AMAZING! Seriously amazing for taking this time to go into such depth! I am fellow vanilla lover who also easily gets those horrible headaches, so I am BEYOND thrilled. Thank you!!
Wow! Fabulous video. My mother’s signature scent was Shalimar. I still have one of her Shalimar perfumes. I must admit I would never wear it. It actually smells horrible on me. I love vanilla but I’m very selective. This video is truly save worthy. Thank you!❤️🤗❤️
You are committed!!! Vanilla is so hard to get right, in my opinion. I love a gourmand scent but I can't stand anything reminiscent of the "vanilla fields" drugstore days and that's what I smell in so many new vanillas!
Hi! It's me - I'm the one person who LOVES Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Milk. It is my #1 favorite scent for winter. I literally think about it when I'm not wearing it. I agree with you about Vanilla Woods though - don't like it. Funny, right? I've been looking forward to this video - I love your deep dives! Thank so you much for all the hard work, its a great video!
Well done 👍 I enjoyed this thoroughly and I’m not particularly fond of vanilla. This was a Herculean task. Fragrance is so personal and you smelled everything. This wasn’t all about Fragrantica notes. I actually love Shalimar but my bottles are vintage. I don’t get any vanilla from it. I do get a lovely Tonka bean. I really love YSL Babycat. I think it’s a brilliant vanilla.
Bosca vanilla forte is a salty marine vanilla, it kind of reminded me a bit of Juliet has a gun vanilla vibes. It’s kind of crunchy textured, a bit male cologne like so very sunny and unisex.
Legend has it that Nemat Vanilla Musk oil is dupe for your Indult Tihota. Maybe you know about this gem. Less than $20 at Whole Foods, Ulta. I layer it to give my weak vanillas omph and I always get compliments
I looked forward to try Burberry Goddess, but when I did, I was really disappointed. Didn't smell any vanilla on my skin, just florals 🙄 so glad I didn't blindbuy it.
Hearing other people talk about fragrances never ceases to amaze me; we all smell things differently both in the bottle and on our skin. I don't even smell the rose and lavender in vanilla woods and burberry goddess, respectively. I haaate scents with rose and lavender but they don't even register to me so I enjoy those two perfumes. Bodies are just weird. You actually made vanilla sex really appealing to me; almond extract is one of my fave smells ever and I'd love to smell like it 😂 Thanks for all the work you did for this video!
I’ve been struggling to sleep lately and I can’t explain the comfort of having this long video to watch while I try to quiet my brain for bed. I know this video has been a PROJECT for you and I trust I’ll rewatch at least once to take my own notes.
You’re the only person I can listen to describe perfumes. All perfume gives me headaches and panic but it’s just fun to see someone so passionately detailed about something 😊😂
This is sooo interesting because clearly we all have different sensitivities for certain fragrances. Dior Hypnotic Poison was one of my first perfumes, and I really only smell vanilla and almond. Which is the opposite of your nose. I'm so fascinated now (in a good way)! 🤔
Totally agree that as someone who is neurodivergent / has sensory issues, there are just certain notes in a scent that stick out and you almost can't get over them. Patchouli is totally one for me, too! I can't stand it. Jasmine and lily are also super distracting and pronounced for me.
Haha it's so funny how different perfume taste can be. I love Commodity Milk, but you have to love marshmallow notes. I love all versions, bold the most. On the other hand I find Jovoy Fire at will really faint and just uninteresting? Haha. I agree with you on Vanilla Woods being super cheap smelling like pear sugar dust. I'm such a hater of Burberry Goddess, it just smells so weird on me. Interesting video nevertheless❤❤❤
You are ruthless in your honesty and it's so refreshing lol I snickered and held my breath simultaneously getting through the worst picks, thinking you may or may not name my current obsession. Your dislikes in this video are a 99% echo of my own. Granted you're a non-gourmand girl, where does Giardini Di Toscana's Bianco Latte stand? Let's end the suspense. (still watching, maybe it's coming up :P)
I love the By the Fireplace candle too, which smells just like a smoky warm wood burning fireplace, and I really enjoy that. I love vanilla scents, and I am a gourmand scents lover. I watched your video all the way until the end to see if you mentioned Lavanila Pure Vanilla. It is a very simple & affordable scent that lasts for a long time, which I’ve had quite a few of co-workers asking me about. I’ve used Pure Vanilla way more than some of my niche perfumes. Another one that I enjoy is Mon Guerlain, it is a vanilla lavender combo, but it is soft and cozy like a hug in the best way. Thank you for the reviews, I really enjoyed all of your videos:)
Fantastic work Kait! Love this video. My top Vanilla fragrances are Indult Tihota Dyptique Eau Duelle EDT KAYALI vanilla 28 Jovoy Fire at Will Kayali Silk Santal Henry Rose Queens and Monsters ❤
vanilla 28 is pure vanilla to me, really surprised by your take on that one. jo malone vanilla vetiver smells exactly like neutrogena rainbath to me . that scent is burned into my brain because i spilled a bottle of rainbath shower oil in my dorm in college. the carpet on 3rd floor richardson probably still smells like that
I agree 💯-I couldn’t stand 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods! It actually made me gag a bit. It is a perfume that confuses me. (I do love their Cherry one though)
I'm not usually a fan of vanilla perfumes but the 7 virtues vanilla woods is actually one I quite enjoy ☺ I like a light spritz on certain days. It's so interesting to me how people and their different chemistries can have such different experiences with things like perfume!
Dafuq could "upcycled tumeric root" be?????? Tumeric root that was first used for something and then for something else? But but but... Don't we just eat the stuff???? 😮😮😮
I'm a fragrance addict and have a collection of around 80 bottles. Diptyque Eau Duelle EDT is in my top 5 of all time, and even though I don't have a "signature scent" since I switch it up so much- this would be it. I love it soooo much. 😊
Soooo cool that you make this video I just got Hypnotic poison for my birthday and found a mini travel size Shalimar !!!! I like Poison and find it a bit similar to M.A.C creme d’nude… (but Dior lasts longer on my salty skin !!)
I made it to 51 minutes of this video! I was on some majestic vanilla journey lol While it was a joyfuly inspiring and educational journey, it's time to move on with my life.
22:50 I made a blind buy of a full-sized Aqua Allegoria Bosca Vanilla Forte immediately after watching your review, and it’s exactly how people described it: like a delicate, sweet, summer holiday in a bottle. It’s so relaxing and addicting at the same time!
I am the exact same with patchouli! I can't stand it and it gives me a headache. I once sampled Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia in Sephora and it was light and delicately fruity. I got a bottle for my birthday this year and it smells so heavy and the patchouli is so prominent that it doesn't smell like the same fragrance. Part of me wonders if the other scents floating around Sephora impacted me.
Jhag vanilla vibes is one of the best vanillas i have ever smelled and i have 200 + full size bottles. Something about it makes my eyes roll in the back of my head. I dont mind synthetic at all ❤
Thank you, Kait!!! I had to watch it in installments, but LOVED it, and have been waiting so long! I’m a vanilla fan, so I’ve smelled/worn many of these, have heard of most, but you managed to introduce me to a few I didn’t even know about. Put a couple of them on my wishlist!
Thank you for such an in-depth video! I'm not sure if I like vanilla scents so it was great to hear the descriptions. I live near Merz Apothecary in Chicago and they stock the Kerosene line - so I got a paper tester of Unknown Pleasures. Would never have known about it - so thank you for making me aware of the brand and glad I have a local stockist! I need to finish up some fragrances but this is one to consider when I am looking for a new scent.
shoutout to the amount of work that went into this video! this was incredible, and I hope you make more fragrance content. you’re so thorough and have a unique perfume style that I love
the dedication put into this one singular video is so impressive, you probably helped so many people find their new favorite vanilla scent, hopefully it was an enjoyable experience for you as well. Good work and thank you 💓
Yes!! I have sampled Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Forte Bosca Vanilla!! Guerlain sent me 3 samples when I purchased a bottle of Spirituese Double Vanille. I adore it! It’s fantastic! Maybe I’ll get a bottle for Christmas! It’s on my wishlist. Guerlain is my favorite perfume house!! ❤ M.M. By the Fireplace I hate! I tried it twice to make sure I hated it, to me it smells like if you put your nose next to an ash tray!! Horrible!!!
Wow! This video is so wonderful! Thank you for putting the time in that it takes to make it! You really gave me a lot of perspective on my current vanillas and ones I’ve been thinking about. We have similar noses I feel so I am very much appreciative!! 🙏🏼😊❤️
Amazing video, Kait 👏🏻 I really appreciated your thorough descriptions and honest thoughts about each fragrance. You’ve deinfluenced me from tracking down a few samples but I’m also intrigued by a couple scents you mentioned I wasn’t familiar with. Thank you for your hard work.
You should try out Vanilla Powder by Matiere Premiere & Long Courrier by Pierre Guillaume! These are 2 that I absolutely loveeee that have amazing Vanillic qualities.
Wow it's obvious you put so much effort into making this video. Thank you! I enjoyed watching it and I saved it since I know I would be re-watching it again ❤
Kait, I totally feel you when you say Affinessence Vanilla Benjoin smells bad, despite the rave reviews of Fragrantica. Perfumes only sometimes make me slightly nauseous, but this one was an instant scrubber. Really off putting, dirty-smelling vanilla
OMG! When you research one category, you totally go all out. I recently purchased Nemat Vanilla Musk oil, it's inexpensive and I really like the scent. I feel like so many perfumes have black pepper, pink pepper, and cardamom and I hate the scent. There can be 10 different notes and it's the first thing I smell, totally turns me off. Thanks for all your hard work!💚
Hi Kait. During the last Sephora sale I grabbed a mini of the Commodity Gold (white bottle per your recommendation) At first, I wasn't sure. Then the dry down came and I absolutely love it!! I now want a full size bottle, maybe next sale. Thank you for this video ☺️
Loved this content so much. I have been searching for the perfect vanilla perfume for myself for years. Don't come for me, but I love Victoria's Secret bare vanilla spray. I really wish they would make it into a perfume already. I'm curious if you have ever tried it and if you think any of these would be a good substitute. I have tried the mixed bar and the Kayali vanilla 28, and I need something else. They are not my preference. Appreciate all the work you put into this. Now I'm off to buy some samples off eBay!
I l love that you also do perfumes it is nice that it isn't the same category you only do. Perfumes are my guilty pleasure, so this is just what I needed 😊 Do you ever check out cloen perfumes. I can recommend ( Divain) they are so god. Big hugs from Denmark. 💝🌹🥰
Thanks for the good effort. Though I don’t like vanilla in perfumes, I used to love it 10 years ago..Back then Shalimar was like a burnt tire ..now I love it alot
You are a doll and I loved this video so much. Love vanilla but really picky as I have sensitivities as well. I will probably watch again just to take some notes! Hope you are doing well today.❤
Great video , wow you tried so many , this needs an applause 👏🏼 and I like how you categorized everything !! 🥰 although I have to disagree with Un Bois Vanille, this feels the opposite of artificial and synthetic to my nose, I perceive it as a very foody, thick honeyed vanilla. The last thing I would say is synthetic 😂 maybe your nose as you said interprets beeswax like that !! Anyway loved it thank you so much 😘
I am the one person who likes ellis brooklyn vanilla milk 👋😊 it reminds me of dimsum egg tarts which is a treasured and nostalgic scent memory for me, but I totally get why a lot of people don’t like it!! (I want to stress that not a single other person thinks it smells like an egg tart, I believe this is just my nose being weird) also my tolerance for lactonic scents is much higher than average, anything that verges on sour/butyric to most people is usually a love for me lol
I actually like EB vanilla milk. When I first smelled it, I was like “ no” because I was sold it to be a creamy vanilla scent which it is not. I do not get egg tart but kinda of a burnt sugar, like in cream brûlée sort of. I usually spritz with a clean scent, like jones road shower or philosophy pure grace.
I'm saving up to buy Bosca Vanilla too! I was actually curious if you were going to talk about it, because it feels like I'm the only person raving about it 😂 Also, the notes thing is one of the reasons I prefer Parfumo over Fragrantica.
Great video Kait! I have the Guerlain Bosca Vanilla, I like it but not in love with it. I pair it with some other Aqua Allegoria perfume. I have Burberry Goddess and don't smell anything vanilla. That to say, I do not have a nose to separate the different notes. My absolute favourite is Guerlain Harvest Neroli Vetiver with Coconut Fizz (they don't make this coconut scent any longer which bummed me out). Lastly I do like Philosophy's Fresh Cream which has a more singular note of vanilla to my nose. Thanks for all the information and I hope you are doing well and enjoying your new home. We moved into our dream home in late October and it is just so lovely to be where you want to be!❤
